Setsuko My EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SC+ GAMING ACX 2.0 was on fire too, fire start after a complete shutdown when i was playing, then i tried to power up the system again and the fire start from within the card, RMA is in process but someone from EVGA told me that the card CAN NOT BE DAMAGED, how it will be not damaged when the card just started a fire from itself?!
If damage to the card caused the issue; that would most likely void the warranty If one of the electronic parts on the video card caused the issue; warranty should cover you The Warranty Terms can be seen at: (select your region) https://www.evga.com/support/warranty/graphics-cards/

As long as the user has warranty time left, a faulty card should be covered.

The exact same thing, same card and everything just happened to me. System shutdown and tried to power it back on and noticed a bright glow and smoke coming from the graphics card. I was able to flip the switch on the PSU before anything actually caught fire. RMA is processing for me now. Luckily the warranty is still good for a couple of months.

I have 2 EVGA 970 SSCs and they run like a top. I have never had a card go on fire, but I did have one steal my wallet once when I turned to get a screwdriver during a build, he denied it , but I knew it was him.

This is why I watercool. If there's a fire it'll melt the tubing and the liquid will put out the flames. Perfect automatic sprinkler system for the PC.
Have water, will cool.

Fire on the SLI fingers is rare.
However, depending on the damage its covered.
EVGA tried telling me because I used the bio's knob, and it broke off in my hand, it was my fault then they covered it free of charge.
