You can see the new pics from the product page here: http://www.evga.com/Produ...aspx?pn=04G-P4-3975-KR

It's the same price as the SC which makes it head and shoulder's better.

As a former SSC owner I'd be pretty pissed to be lumped in with the ACX 1.0 users as victims of EVGA's strategy to sell through their old stock of components and roll out new models continues. This must be their 15th variant at this point?

I kind of saw the writing on the wall when SSC disappeared from everyone's stock, I sold it at near full value for a much, much quieter 980 strix, I just got tired of keeping up with the card saturatation and took a step out. I love EVGA but maybe next-gen, it seems like their going through growing pains right now.

It was know from the start that the Version 2 ACX Cooler would replace the Version 1 ACX Cooler.

No way can you find me anything online that states that. Yes the ACX fans with 11 blades are one thing, but now we're talking about the heatsink design. If I had the SC or was considering it's purchase I'd be cautious, there's nothing stopping them from doing the same and they've now shown without a shadow of a doubt they're capable of it without so much as a press release.

Further to my last about the SC, I stumbled on this page a few weeks ago but dismissed it as a mistake. They now have the card in stock but I've never heard anything about it:

    http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX55071

Its an SC with a FTW cooler that costs $20 more than the regular SC that they carry.

It's leaving customer's in the dark that leaves me the most frustrated. It's difficult to find reviews of any of their 970's, they certainly have kept them tight to the chest after getting rolled over on a round up article from bit-tech.

So what the hell is the difference between this and the SSC I bought at launch that also came with ACX 2.0?  Specs on the product pages look similar ... does this one fix the annoying coil whine or something?

The only difference between the 2 according to the site is the original one has "Two available 6-pin PCI-E power connectors" .. everything else on the product pages are identical.

It's using the cooler from the FTW which they now state as 6% cooler. The pcb may have changed with it now using a 6 phase vrm design. Or they could just be calling the 4 + 2 design they've been using 6 phases now.

That's just today's presser, if they were more transparent with their intentions atleast once the 1st SSC gpu went off the store I'm sure a lot more folks wouldn't feel short changed.

It looks also like the new cards now need one 8-Pin PCIe Power cable and one 6-Pin PCIe Power cable.
The older card used two 6-Pin PCIe Power cables.

I just applied for a step-up to this from my 970 GTX ACX 2.0 SC. I remember they were offering step ups to the FTW for people who weren't satisfied with the SC cooler, so I'm hoping that's still the case for this one considering it uses the same FTW cooler.

We'll see what happens... It might be a while til I get a response because holidays and all.

This actually really pisses me off as an owner of 2 FTW models.  I paid $30 more than the SSC version, now the SSC version is actually better?  W T F eVGA?  Why did I spend $30 more for the FTW model when I could have spent less and gotten more??

I'm with you on that one. I also have an FTW and seeing this new SSC is a little irritating. Is the new SSC actually that much better in terms of overclocking ability?

that's a kind of an unlucky move EVGA, I would say. I also have a FTW and I'm happy so far.
no worry about the performance but the new SSC has far better output possibilities than the FTW.
if I had a chance I would have gone with those outputs, 2 DisplayPorts more 1 DVI less is a perfect choice.
the card seems to be released for the 144MHz G-Sync setups, pity for us.

    @div033
you can't step-up to the same GPU, this is not considered as valid.
the only way they could do it would be RMA replacement.

Aye, I understand that, but they were making exceptions for people who weren't satisfied with their coolers. They allowed anyone with a Non-FTW 970 to step up to a 970 FTW. I'm just having trouble finding the source, though I know it was on this forum at one point. Wanted to see if there was a timing element to this.

for customer satisfaction there should never be a time limit, imo.
the RMA way should always work.

Yeah it doesn't seem there's any time element.

    I found the post:

Regarding the recent GTX 970 feedback, we would like to provide the following statements and actions to address it:

    1. We understand that some users were expecting the ACX 2.0 fan version to be available on the launch day, but unfortunately the ACX 2.0 development schedule did not allow us to have ACX 2.0 product available at launch. We plan to offer an ACX 2.0 fan upgrade program, stay tuned for news on this.

    2. For EVGA GTX 970 ACX cards we have two different fansink designs, FTW ACX 2.0, and SSC and below. For those users who have SSC and below, and are not pleased with the cooling performance, we are adding the GTX 970 FTW to the stepup program as an option.

    3. We are going to release a new BIOS upgrade to all 970 ACX owners that will fine tune the fan performance and provide better acoustics. Stay tuned.

    4. Some EVGA users have reported inductor noise on their GTX 970, if you think you have this type of concern then please contact our support.

Sorry for the inconvenience, EVGA's top priority is customer satisfaction.

    Thanks,
    Joe

It won't let me link directly to it, but it's FindPost/2226171

However they could still deny me as I opted for the new SSC version, but I don't see why they would considering it's a cheaper option with the same cooler design. Time will tell.

in this special case the general rules doesn't apply I think.
if they make a move it would be an exception case scenario.

So? If you don't like it you can pay the difference and shipping to step to a FTW, which only has 4 phase power delivery, no pcb plate to cool ram, and it's heatpipes aren't copper all while the new SSC does while being available for cheaper then what you likely already paid.

Pretty much confirms the theory that EVGA rushed these out, though probably wish some prodding from Nvidia.

so if i do a step up to a FTW from my older SSC ACX 2.0 will i get this new design with the 8+6 pins and different cooler?
even the option to go to a 04G-P4-3975-KR from my 04G-P4-2975-KR would be fine

If you step up right now to the FTW, you would get the old model since they haven't even released any info/price on it yet.  It's not officially launched, so there is no way of getting it.  The new SSC is up for step up though.

Too late for me, just received the old FTW as an upgrade from the ACX 1.0 SC.  The change to PCB VRM and new connection setup similar to a 980 is certainly enticing.
