So recently i built a new Pc and have been getting pretty bad coil whine With my new Gtx760. I have a pretty odd looking wire can anyone tell me if this is a defective wire? Its from a CX500m.

Usually the cables on power supplies are appropriately labeled. Especially Corsair ones. Check to ensure you have all 8 cables on the connector. Normally the PCI-E connectors are 6+2 but some have 8pin connections on the higher end power supplies. On the connection it should be labeled 'PCI-E' for the appropriate ones. Anything other should not fit at all as the cut points are different.

From the looks of your picture it appears that you are missing a cable on that connector. Do you happen to have another one which is labled PCI-E?

Correction as I just looked at the CX600M power supply and some of the PCI-E connections are missing a center pin. This might be normal. Perhaps the coil whine is from a part of the fan rubbing against something under the covering?

That particular power supply should have two 6+2 pin PCI-E connectors (it's a 6 pin with attachable 2 pin). If there are really only 7 pins then you need to contact Corsair and get a new cable. The pin you are missing is a ground pin so it's possible that the PSU is configured in a way that makes it unnecessary.

This should not cause a coil whine though.

Yeah the issue is that's the only cable that came with it and its the right cable as im using that Pc right now. The thing is that "Missing cable actually attaches to another pin and the pin is entirely missing from the wire.

The Thing is that is the wire that actually connects to the PSU itself not the Gpu. This is not a 6+2 Pin connector for the Gpu itself it is the wire that delivers it to the PCIE Connector

That power supply should come with two of those cables, does the other one look the same?

The corsair CX500M is semi-modular. The initial 8 pin is normally reserved for the motherboard CPU power connections. There should be an appropriate space for that. In the bag that came with the power supply should be modular cables which are labeled PCI-E. There should be at least two of them. I'd go find the other and compare with the one you are using.

Well i looked in the box again and there are no more cables besides a daisy chained sata. Seems this is the only cable i have that connects to the Gpu. Its just odd because that is the cable that goes into the Psu to deliver power to my PCIE connectors.

OP,is the pic your showing of the connector the end that plugs into the power supply?
I just checked one of my spare  HX 1200 PCIE cables, the connector that goes to the power supply indeed only uses seven pins.
    Your cable is fine.
Some coil wine from the graphics card can occur on some system.
It usually does not effect the performance of the card.
But do check the fan to see if it is rubbing on anything.
