There's no need to repeat what so many others have already said and covered, be it here or elsewhere. This card needs a bios update and / or the ability to turn the fan OFF or lower it beyond 40%. I can understand the fan needs to do its thing under load, but the noise this thing makes even on an idle desktop is unacceptable. Its been less than 2 hours since installation and I'm seriously considering returning this to Amazon.

I was expecting silence or damn near close to it. Not the constant whirring reminiscent of the beginning of a takeoff.

do you have the short single fan one? I thought only the ACX one was loud.

Yup. The single fan SC edition. The fan is ALWAYS running at 40% and beyond if you actually do something beyond looking at your desktop.

My prior card was *silent*. If EVGA addresses this issue before too long and releases a fix, I'll be glad to keep it as it's a solid performer for its price range. If not, there's no way in hell I'm keeping this. I can barely concentrate writing this post. I've had dual 6-pin power supplied cards quieter under load than this thing is when its idling.

I'm something of an EVGA fanboy to boot. Normally I'm not an early adapter due to hassles such as this, but I was excited with Maxwell.

They're aware of the problem. The question is whether or not they plan on correcting it.

Well this problem dose not effect only your card, but it seem to be a part of all their ACX cards my GTX 780 SC ACX has a minimum fan speed of 39%. And to tell you the truth i can't even really hear it, unless the rest of your computer is completely silent then it should not be a huge problem.

It's disappointing because this is the first pci slot powered card I've ever heard, including prior slot powered cards which have also included fans. I'm truly hoping there's a bios fix for the fan. If I have to hear the fan to at least some extent during gaming, fine...but it should be off or at least lower during browsing and HTPC use.

from dawn of time EVGA's cards are louder , and even hotter than competition. If it wasnt for their awsome warranty and the sense of community here . I doubt they would've been able to stay in business , without these factors and BFG going down too.

the problem here is not the fan curve, some want to disable the fan completely cause the card already runs cold enough at idle (20c range does not need a fan running) thats only 68f which is standard room temperature.

They should make the card disable the fan at idle and only turn it on when GPu usage load is detected going up.

Video Card technology is getting better and better where this should be possible now.

What type of case is this installed in, are there any other case fans? Sounds like it might just be starved of airflow....

Its highly doubtful that Nvidia will allow a "low end RPM user control" as we have seen what users will do with such control....
Besides, while the GPU core might really not need alot of cooling I belive the rest of the components -DO-. It is a lowend card

it is a fantastic little phsyx card, I have the TI SC ACX assisting dual classifieds.  Definitely a win.

I can not hear mine due to having a box fan pulling cold air into my sauna (military dorm room with great heating).  I am going to be taking the fan down soon, and will attach the noctua noise reducer if I can, and make this better (was suggested in the sticky bios update, going to try it) so that I can get the noise as low as possible.
Also, I am folding with this card.  it is Currently running at 20c but it isn't even causing a load on the card.. I have been using it for folding for 3 weeks and only a few units cause it to have a load.  It works as fast as my classifieds (Classifieds are folding core 17 units at 7 hours each and the 750 is folding core 15 at about 8 hours).

    They are impressive little cards.

In my previous post, I brought up the issue concerning my 760 SC ACX.  Tech support initially helped me by sending me a bios patch which would allow me to lower the fan speed.  This may have helped a little, but it was still loud and I was getting fed up with it.  Even my wife mentioned how loud it was.  I took a closer look and figured out that one of the fans was responsible for the racket by slowing it down and sure enough the sound level went down.  Since I just recently purchased it via newegg, I initiated a RMA to return it.  Hopefully this will solve the issue.  It seems that the ACX cooling system still has a few kinks.
