I recently just bought an Evga ftw3 3090. Could i potentially put it in sli mode with a kingpin 3090 or similar?
Does it have to be another ftw3?

As long as it is another 3090, SLI will work.

With enough legos and time, you could position the kingpin to line up with the FTW3, but it will be frustrating. Your best bet would be to get a matching GPU.

SLI is all but useless at this point. Development is dead, just save your money.

I agree that SLI is about useless at this point. They stopped making SLI profiles for games around the launch of the 3090 and for older games with a SLI profile the 3090 would run them perfectly fine on Ultra settings. It also gets into if a 4090 would be a better option for the money.

I guess I should say that this is based on having to pay for a 3090 if someone happened to walk up and hand you a 3090 that matched I would use SLI.

Thank you all for the feedback. I have a 3080 ti that is bugged out. I am replacing it with a 3090 because the EK waterblocks are universal. If all goes well and the system is stable i could go SLI someday.

I got an Evga 3090 ftw3 for 1300$. And i could pick up the kingpin for 1500$, but it would be overkill at this point.

StockX dot com has EVGA gpus for sales under retail listed market price.
Im not going to tell anyone else.

Nvidia actually stopped making SLI profiles in 2018 when the RTX 2080 Ti launched and left it up to developers to implement support if they wanted to add it. That was the death knell for SLI as we knew it and at this point SLI has moved from it's death bed and into the grave.

That is absolutely correct. Anyway, the power of current video cards from both AMD and NVIDIA allow users to play games at very high frame rates. The SLI technology that NVIDIA received when it bought out 3DFX was fine for a while, but technology has been moving forward and SLI is a technology that is no longer needed.
