I've been playing ark on 1440 on a evga XCO 2080ti. Ark is poorly optimized and runs a little warmer than most games, but the temp and fans were never much of a problem.

On the 3090 (FTW Ultra) I'm idling at 59 degrees, which already seems high. Within 30 seconds of playing ark the gpu is at 85 degrees and the fans are making a ton of noise, 2300+ rpm. Check out these curves (this is 1440!):

This doesn't seem right. GPU's running at 99% on the same settings as the 2080. Does this sound normal?

X1 and firmware have been updated, along with nvidia driver. Case cooling isn't the best, but not terrible either (nzxt 510 elite w/ corsair aio on cpu, card in slot 1 with space all around)

I know that your card can perform better if it runs cooler ,
is the water block released for it ?

My 3090 XC3 Ultra idles at 60 C as well. Trying to figure if the notify queue applies to the hybrid kits but keep getting answers about the hybrid cards. It's like people can't read or something

What I've found is that the 3090s like to use max voltage for whatever clocks they run.  Even if you don't need that much voltage for it.  That ends up overheating a ton and hitting power limit and thermal limit and results in throttling.  You may do best setting a specific curve/locked voltage & clock speed in order to keep temperatures cooler, and keep clocks higher.  You should be able to do 1905MHz at somewhere between 0.850v and 0.900v depending on silicon lottery.  Start with that.  See how thermals work out.  Then you can try for a higher clock with different voltages.  But if you let the card handle everything, it'll try running over 1.000v right off the bat.

Need to spamtribute 100 posts for Elite status to be able to get a KingPin because Jacob. My apologies in advance.

My card was running hot until I revised the airflow to pull the hot exhausted air up and away from the cooling fans.  At the same time, I opened an area at the back of the case, below the card, so the fans would have ambient air..

It is now running in the 60-65° C range and never gets out of the green range unless I connect a VR Headset..  My monitor is a 3440x1444 120Hz model..

Not sure why you're having issues, but I bet it's not the card.....airflow, settings in nv control panel...they all have an effect.

Try to open your side panel, as there is alot of warm air coming out of the side fins.

play horizon zero down  71C full load
play valhalla 61C locked@60fps full load
play mafia DE 69-71 full load

the clock will stock at 2.085-2.1G under 65C
and drop down to 2.04G by >73C
consider the hybrid kit to keep the clocks >=2.1G

Hi mate, my 3090FTW3 Ultra idles at 22C and when gaming its hitting 59C max.  I have the 900D case, 3 intake fans, 1 exhaust and 4 top fans (3 or for the radiator).  So yeah your card is damn hot, these card do run hot and need proper ventilation.

I may be talking total rubbish here (my wife tells me I often do!), but when the cards first launched I watched a load of YouTube videos and particularly Steve at GamesNexus. He noted when he was tearing down a few how dry the thermal paste was on a few of them. If the paste has dried out could that account for the difference some folks are seeing?

No. This paste was designed to be dry like that. Many people have replaced the thermal paste thinking that the dry stuff isn't performing well, and have seen no significant difference.

The dry stuff lasts a lot longer. If you replace it with the more typical runny stuff, you will have to start replacing it much more often due to the pump-out effect.

I noticed my 3090 would idle around 60c if Power management mode (Nvidia control panel) was set to Prefer maximum performance. Looks like that setting is only applied after signing out of windows.

3090s and 3080s use a lot of voltage and generate a lot of heat. But your idle Temps sound pretty high imho. Try under volting as others here suggested.

Are you on the newest driver 457.30? There's a particular issue from being on that driver causing these cards to idle at these temperatures.  My 3090 FTW3 ultra was pegged at 1800 mhz and 59-60c while idle.  Once I removed this driver and installed the previous release driver, the issue was gone .. idle temp was back at 35c for me.  Hope this helps

Edit: Seems like the issue came back.  So what I did was follow one of the mod's advice and used Nvidia Inspector.  Now I know the issue is because of my multiple monitor setup
