Good morning everyone,

Since the 3090 FTW3 Ultra has been available on the EVGA website several times this week - i purchased one. I was originally waiting for the Kingpin yet have given up unfortunately.

Some questions:
- has the "new" version of the 3090 FTW3 Ultra (24G-P5-3987-KR) been redesigned and the XOC bios and power draw issue(s) resolved?
- What is the "BEST" Bios for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra for someone that likes OC'ing and runs the OC 24/7? I do not mind fan noise AT ALL :)
-- Is one software tool better than the other for the 3090 series cards? Precision X VS MSI Afterburner? I usually use MSI Afterburner yet am familiar with PX

Thank you everyone in advance for helping out and please forgive my ignorance around my questions - hence me asking :)

The second 3090 FTW3 I purchased last May was a Rev 1.0 PCB and it only pulls around 65 watts at the PCIE slot a high draw was a concern of some with the original rev .1 boards. I have a .1 board as well nether of the boards I have owned rev .1 and rev 1.0 pull a constant 500 watts in synthetics benchmarks like port royal or in gaming loads seem to cap out 460-480 range. The best bios is subjective but the one they ship with is the 500 watt rebar bios (in the OC switch position). Afterburner's curve tuner is easier to use in my opinion.

@Redtwofish - Thank you for the information, very helpful!
    - I am a little worried seeing that the 3090 FTW3 Ultra is available yet maybe due to known previous issues people are not interested?,... EVERYTHING else is SOLD OUT yet the 3090 FTW3 Ultra is not. I keep checking daily for the Kingpin edition yet no luck.

I am planning to leave the 500W bios on the 3090 than and just upgrade the thermal pads and GPU paste hoping to improve the life and performance of the 3090.

Don't worry about it. Current 3090 FTW3 ultra is rev 1.2. It may actually be the best version of 3090 EVGA has. I thoroughly tested thermals, power draw, and OC ceiling, and it's 10-15% faster out of the box than an average 3090, while remaining cool, and inaudible if fans are under 60%.
I got mine earlier this week, and couldn't be happier with it.

My initial post. According to 3dmark, I get significantly higher scores than others with identically specced systems:

@DemonChaos - Thanks for the update - I literally have a smile on my face now! Excited to get it tomorrow (I may have been tracking shipment every couple of hours or so out of excitement) :)

Do you think i should still perform the thermal pad (mod-upgrades) and GPU Paste or leave it as is than? I will also purchase the 7 year extended warranty with EVGA since these people have always been great to me!

    Thank you again!

I have a 3080 as well, and that one required thermal pad upgrades. This 3090 performs much better thermally than a modded 3080, which is insane. Whatever EVGA did, they did it right with this revision. It's even possible modding would degrade the thermals, since they already appear to be perfect now. Just remember to turn on vsync or limit your framerate to your display refresh speed, and your GPU will love you for it.

Addendum: normal bios board draw is 450w, while OC is around 500w according to GPUz. Obviously, it draws less on the 3rd rail, I don't know why people think it needs to be evenly distributed between the rails. That's just nuts. It does not appear to be starved.
My draw distribution was something like: 50w from the socket, 170 from rail 1, 169 from rail 2, and 120 from rail 3 during benchmarks.

@DemonChaos - I am so excited right now! And you pointing out the revision even being better than ever is exactly why i have been an EVGA customer for well over a decade now! Is there a way we can verify the revision we have (serial #, CPUZ somehow?)

    - Also, i ALWAYS install stripped and clean Nvidia drivers and set to my display resolution which is 144Hz. No point in running hotter and or wasting power getting 10K frames if my monitor/eyes don't know what to do with those frames anyway :)

I will install and test the 3090 tomorrow and if the thermals are truly as impressive as you mention will probably leave it alone!

Again, I am grateful for all the input so far everyone and for the conversation :)

I use 165hz monitor, and vsync. The card runs mad cool, even running stuff like FARCRY 5. About 20 degrees cooler than my 3080 while under load O_O
Undervolt probably helps. My daily undervolt curve modifier is +171 at 1000mV. IMO, Afterburner is best for this, but you should read up on it before making big changes.

My custom fancurve is 40% baseline until 50c, then a 45 degree slope.

Yes, that's where it will say what rev you get. Apparently, it's the surest way to know.

@DemonChaos Do you by chance have a link that explains and showcases a "How To Undervolt" for the folks reading our back and forth?
    - I would also be interested in seeing your fan curve settings (if that's quick and easy to share).
    - You also have the FTW3 Ultra non-Hybrid, correct?

Yes. You can just YouTube RTX 3090 undervolt, and you'll get a dozen of videos.
Since nobody clearly or succinctly lists what settings need to be ticked before you get started, here are my curves and settings:

@DemonChaos - Great! Does the fan curve give you a lot of winding up and down due to the aggressive curve? Or is the fan noise adjusting not noticeable?

You probably don't need to unlock voltage control, just monitoring if it interests you. Control serves no real purpose in my daily usage.

No winding up or down. It generally is inaudible, or if I play a demanding game, it's barely audible, constant. Blends in with the background noise.

I don't know how different 1.2 is from 1.0. Basically, getting 1.0 is already a win from what I'm reading.  1.2 might be 1-2 week old. I ordered by card on the 18th, and got it on 22nd.

And yes, according to HWMonitor, all 3 fans go up in RPM. It works without issues for my 3080, also.

@AHowers I would maybe suggest contacting EVGA and requesting a V1.2. Especially knowing about the huge improvement around the perf. and temps for the 3090!

I don't know if performance and temps are due to it being 1.2. I think it has more to do with how well cooled my case is. Remember, that the cooler it runs, the longer it maintains the boost clock.
If I were to guess, actual changes are probably completely insignificant.  Going from 0.1 to 1 was the real meat.

Something A LOT of people oversee is the importance of a well cooled PC Case; not just for GPU yet also for mem temps/stability/OC headroom in general.
    - I will check my revision for the 3090FTW3 Ultra and update this with some benchmark/testing #'s and temps.

Good to know about the afterburner now working eith evga tripple fan cards.

Heat shouldn't be an issue or concern for me though.

Today I'll be installing a Ek front and back water block on my 3090 ftw3! Hehe.

Yeah I'm just concerned about that power issue where the card dies from whatever. Guess we will never know why.

I'd hate to not use the OC bios over fear.

USE The OC bios - The issue has been communicated by Jayztwocents: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpvsaedeeqg&t=693s

Also, IF somehow your 3090 gets broken EVGA is aware of an issue with the soldering on the card and acknowledges bad workmanship on their end and will warranty/replace the card. If you look in the EVGA forums there is a link where you can email EVGA directly and they will replace the card; I believe this is ONLY for the 24G-P5-3987-KR version of the 3090. (if I am incorrect and this is for ALL 3090's please correct me).

    General warranty: https://www.evga.com/warranty/graphics-cards/
3090 RMA: "If you have any issues with your product or our service, I urge you to contact our team directly via email at Support@evga.com"

    Hope this helps :)

@DemonChaos I believe you are correct that the 0.1 version only had the issue. Yet based on my findings it appears EVGA (as amazing as they are) is looking into any possible issues with the 3090 and will help where they can.

Ok boys and girls here we go:

I received the 3090 FTW3 Ultra revised model 1.2. Swapped Thermal pads and GPU paste (i can explain or leave details if anyone is interested). Stock 1800Mhz 26C idle, 50C'ish load (just to have some base #'s).
6x intake fans (3x Noctua 140mm (60% fan curve base) 3x EKW 120mm Fans (100% fan curve base due to being CPU bound))
7x exhaust fans (4x Noctua 140mm (60% fan curve base) 3x EKW 120mm Fans (100% fan curve base due to being CPU bound))
i have tested for almost an entire day and did several Unigine Heaven Benchmarks and 3Dmark to test for scores and stability. Final findings are as follows:
    - Overclocked to 2010MHz and Undervolted to 0.950mV delivered BEST average score and temperatures. I can drop the temps to low/mid 60C under load by undervolting quite easily yet with some performance impact.
-- The performance gains and or impact are not noticeable much due to using lower voltage curves and focusing on balancing the temperatures and scores. This test HAS NOT been for 3DMark scores yet for stability and undervolting testing.
--- I had plenty of background applications open (Firefox, Steam, Afterburner, Notepad, Sitcky Notes, GPU-Z) which will all impact scores negatively when running 3DMark benchmarks. Just FYI :)
---- Fire Strike Extreme runs MUCH hotter than Fire Strike does. I can get below 60C in Fire Strike while bench marking.

    Highest GPU Temp: 70.7

    Max Gpu Voltage: 0.950mV
    Core Clock @ 2010MHz
    Memory: +1200MHz
    GPU Score: 21147
    Physics Score: 12839
    Score: 19276

    (100% fan speed) - (Core Voltage 0.900mV)

    Highest GPU Temp: 66.3
    Highest Mem Temp: 70
Max Board Power Draw : 422.8W
    Max Gpu Voltage: 0.900mV

    Memory: +1200MHz
    GPU Score: 20801
    Physics Score: 12766
    Score: 19006

This card has WAY MORE headroom especially if one decides to put a water block on it. I am super impressed to say the least!

If anyone has questions or needs some clarification on something please let me know and i would be more than happy to help and or clarify where i can. I hope this helped someone :)
