3080 not outputting Surround Sound?

Hi all:
 
Currently my set up is as follows:
EVGA 3080FTW3 Ultra connected to Aorus Master Z490 MB. I currently have an Ultra High Speed HDMIs running from the GPU ---> TV (Samsung Q90R port 4 to get 4K 120Hz) ---> (from Q90R port 3 to get ARC) Denon AVR receiver (5.1 setup). Currently the sound only comes from the two front speakers, and when I go to control panel to configure the surround sound settings, I only get the "Stereo" audio option. Additionally, my TV will only pick up a "PCM" audio source. Is anyone aware of a way to get the surround sound option on the PC with my current set up how it is? I know I can always run an optical cable directly to the surround sound, but I'd rather not as you lose may Dolby and DTS sound features. I've tried many of the online guides, but the option seems to never pop up.

    an obvious question...did you install the sound drivers from the nvidia video/ audio driver installation package...?

    I installed all the most recent audio drivers from my MOBO manufacturer last night. I wasn't aware there were audio drivers for NVIDIA. The only drivers I believe I have installed to date are the Game Ready Drivers provided by Nvidia (I'd prefer to keep GRD as my primary use for the PC is gaming). Not sure if the audio driver is inclusive in that or not. When going to the Nvidia website, I don't see audio specific drivers, would you be able to direct me to where I can find these or how I can verify I have the latest audio driver installed?

    I only install the graphic driver & Physx driver when I do installs, but the full package install usually has some kind of HD audio with it for the cards ...

    Your assistance and the links are greatly appreciated. I haven't run into these yet in my research, so I'll check if any resolve my issue once I get home this evening. I'll come back to this thread if they do not resolve the issue.

    your sound is coming from the HDMI cable so you need the audio driver for your video card from nvidia.

    It's worth noting that for some really, really stupid reason, most of the time the sound output from TV's, whether it's hdmi or optical, is only capable of outputting stereo sound regardless of what was input into it.  I don't know why the industry does it this way, and it's possible that that's not true for your tv, as pretty much every tech critic who knows about this calls it out for how stupid it is, so hopefully the manufacturers have begun to change it.

    The Nvidia HD Audio is automatically installed with the GR or ST Drivers ..unless you uncheck it during a custom Install.
    It should be seen under Sound Controllers , probably along with the Realtek HD driver from the Mobo.

    What model is your Receiver. I have a slightly older receiver Yamaha RX-740 I believe, and it does not support ARC 5.1, Only 2.1.
     
    I have to place the computer as HDMI 1 on receiver
    TV as HDMI 2 on receiver
     
    And out put video from Receiver to TV to get both to work with Surround. But then my receiver does not support HDR :(
    I had an adapter that worked for some time, but failed about 2 months in.
     
    In the end I need a new receiver.

    I have a Denon X3400H. My setup is HDMI out of the video card into the Denon, then another HDMI out of the Denon into the ARC HDMI of the 4K TV. I get 4K60,HDR,5.1 this way.

    I would imagine that setup your good.
     
    When you go to configure speakers in sound options it only shows stereo? I forget how to get there I’m not home and I only have a mac with me but I can write it up in the morn.

    This would not be it, be good to note but on my Yamaha if I used any of their mixing formats like surround 7.1 it would give me funky problems where it would only come out the front speakers. I had to set mine to straight 7.1. I don’t know what the equivalent on Denon would be.

    Wanted to drop by and say that I'm having this issue myself. I just built a new PC and purchased an RTX 3080 FTW3 on the aftermarket, and I'm only getting the option for Stereo in speaker configuration. My old GTX 970 would output 5.1 just fine to my LG OLED C9 w/ eARC. Quite confused here!
    I tried deleting the Nvidia HD Audio driver and reinstalling, but it made no impact.

    I was just able to fix this issue for myself.
    On my LG OLED C9, I had to go to the TV's Sound settings, then changed 'Digital Sound Out' from 'Auto' to 'Pass through'.
    I find it interesting that Auto wouldn't work, but I'll take the fix.
