I get random black screens that last 5-10 seconds before recovering. This only occurs while browsing, watching Twitch/Youtube, and never happens while gaming. I've noticed when this happens PX1 shows my GPU usage randomly spikes to 100%, clock speeds go over 2000, and memory clock over 9500. I have tried DDU and installed latest driver 456.71. Event viewer shows a display error of "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Try disabling hardware acceleration inside your web browser to see if that will help or not.

Ok I'll give that a try. Tough thing is I can't recreate the error, it just happens randomly. I won't be able to let you know if this worked or not unless I don't see this occur again for the next few days.

Are you using a g-sync monitor? If yes, does disabling g-sync help?

Does it happen only when you have PX1 running? (as in, try closing out PX1 and not just minimizing)

For testing purposes, try lowering your refresh and resolution down a step on both, for a few hours to see if that works or same Issue.
also pop open task mgr and sort processes by GPU usage and try to see what’s running and spiking.

Can't do the task manager part because my screens go black so I can't see what spikes to 100% at that time. There's no historical chart that I can see for specific apps.

Does the issue occur over all the outputs on the gpu? Does the issue occur with a different monitor?

Which browser are you using? This is happening to me, and so far, it only seems to be happening in Firefox when I'm watching Youtube. I have a 3080 FTW3 Ultra.

I am having this exact issue, with the exact same card. I too am having issues only when running random apps. Twitch has done it/CCleaner has done it. I too have 2 monitors hooked up via display port and both go black for about 10 seconds. I have DDU'd drivers, and Windows 10 is running latest version.

My issue ended up being the Precision X1 OSD. Once i disabled that, I stopped getting driver crashes. Which is a shame because I like using the OSD

Same issue with RTX 3090:
- 3 monitors all DP GPU side but 2 are HDMI monitor side (the cable do the convert thing)
- no G-Sync
- Not sure is X1 was running each time

Apparently there is a issue with Ampere cards and coming out of sleep mode. Anytime I resume from sleep mode, it seems to either crash or reboot. Not sure if you are resuming from sleep, but may help. See thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/...um=web2x&context=3

Hello,
I've been runnnig NVidia Power management mode on "Prefer maximum performance" setting (debug off) for about 48h now without any issue.
Precision X1 was running the whole time, along with various other application (browser, video player, game, dev tools...).
So this setting seams to fix the issue for me too, at the expense of power saving, sadly. The power usage of the card stay at about 30% idle.

I seem to be having the same problem with my 3080 XC3 Ultra. Happened two times today and was thinking it was due to my overclock settings. But maybe not? Happened two times at idle mostly while playing videos, surfing the web. I'll try the NCP settings tomorrow but that's far from ideal. Two questions:1) is this happening on EVGA cards specifically or is this a 30 series widespread issue?2) do you think this will be fixed soon in a firmware/driver update or should we consider the GPU defective? Thanks. EDIT: Ok, I just found out that it appears to be a driver issue. In the NVIDIA Forum, the latest driver topic includes, under "Updates/New Issues" - Some users may experience random TDR while using a web browser [3171517]
I just hope this gets fixed soon.

I found these steps on another forum in order to send feedback to Nvidia about this issue: Manuel@NVIDIA said: We would appreciate it if users facing this issue with our recent R455 drivers, if they would be willing to capture a full dump file and send it to us. - Reproduce the browser black screen/TDR issue again on your PC

Then press the OK button to proceed. - This will open the folder location where the dmp file should be located (if you see multiple files, it will be the file with the most recent date.

I know this is an old thread but I am also experiencing this random black screen issue. I'm running dual monitors, one connected via DisplayPort and the other via HDMI. Only my main monitor, the one connected via dp goes black for a short time. This happens when opening and closing app such ass 3dmark and AC Valhalla. I'm on the latest drivers at the time of writing this (496.13) and have used DDU 4 times to uninstall drivers. I am also running an undervolt but even with stock settings I still get this issue.
