Trying to play Borderlands 3 in Directx12 with all ultra settings. It is the first game that is pushing the card for me. The fans are up to 70% according to the EVGA Precision tool. It is quite loud in my Fractal Meshify C case. GPU temperature is 79-82 degrees. Is this still within safe levels? Thanks!

I think is being reported that simply these evga cards with this ixc3 coolers are going to run in the mid to high 70s.
I guess I'm going to try to get their Hybrid kit for the XC3 models.

with the default fan curves I was getting temps in the 70s. I was able to bring them down to mid 60s with setting custom curves, boosting to 1950-80mhz. the card will get loud at 70% and above fan speed though. Seems like undervolting is the way to go if you want to keep fan speeds down. I think these cards throttle in the mid 80s so you may want to try setting custom curves and/or hooking up a fan to the auxiliary fan header so it can react to gpu temps

They'll be safe up towards 90+ You can easily undervolt these cards though, they're so powerful especially if you're using a sub 4K resolution and bring the load temps down to the 65c range.

I plan to hook my PC up to a LG OLED monitor for 4k. Should I still look into undervolting? What does it mean exactly and how would I do it?

Case cooling? I set my fan profile to aggressive on the 3080 FTW3 Ultra.. Temps stay in the 60's while gaming... And it's NOT that loud in my case which is pretty open and good airflow, lots of mesh....

You use MSI Afterburner to set a custom boost/voltage curve. There's various tutorial sites/videos that can you show you, it's not too hard to follow. I'd link them but I can't do that for a few days.

79-82 is a bit high for the FTW3, what does your chassis airflow setup look like?

Thanks for the response Jacob! I am using the Fractal Design Meshify C withincluded fans. This is simply one fan in the front and one in the rear. last night after seeing those temps, I ordered 2 be quiet! Silent Wings 3 140mm PWM, BL067, Cooling Fans for the front and 1 Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200 PWM, High Performance Cooling Fan for the back. Then I will take the existing fan from the back and add it to the top back. That way I will have 2 140mm fans pulling air into the front and 2 in the back and top pushing it out. They are supposed to come on Monday and I will retest temperatures then!

Yeah mine hit's over 86*C running a Port Royal Stress test for a few runs (ambient temp varies from 70*F to 74*F). Been in contact with EVGA since day 1 and they think something is wrong and want me to RMA. A little history of GPU temps in my setup: used a 1080ti for years and it never went above 71*C on stock fan curve and was quiet.. the heat sink on that was much smaller too. Steps taken on my end: - After round one of emails with EVGA, they said I could try to re-paste. I did so using Arctic MX-4, temps MAYBE dropped 1*C. So the paste job they did was really good already.
- Turned my case fans to 100%, temps didn't budge.
- Opened side panel in case, case fans set to 100%, temps dropped from 86C to 84-85C... so not much
- Side panel still off, put a 12" house fan pointed directly at the GPU area, turned GPU fans manually to 100%, temps dropped to 80*C. This is ridiculous for normal use cause its comically loud but it still was super warm. This was just ran for diagnostic purposes
- Swapped to the OC bios to confirm no bios issue, temps hit 84*C using stock fan curve (Precision X1 closed).
After all those steps they recommended I RMA the card. If it really just an issue with my card I'm happy to RMA and try again. I was hoping for max temps around 72-73C with no OC and stock fan curve. Lower is obviously better due to fan noise... Any other complaints on temps using stock fan curve and no overclock?

Yikes I hope this isn't a wide spread issue, i really want a quiet cool card

As I posted elsewhere. With MSFS using the gpu 90-100%, my card was hitting 82. I downloaded the precision X1 version for 30 series and set a fan curve to agressive. Idle temp is now In the 30, in game after a few hours. 72-75 with fans at max. I have good case airflow I think but my room temp is 80+ to begin with and... the PC is under a desk. I would probably be at 65-70 in a cooler room , still hot.

Yeah I'm having similar issues in games as well, even when only at about 80-90% GPU load when I cap under G-Sync threshold (138 fps) in Warzone I am getting over 82C.

AIO or fan ? Do you run the last precision X1 ? Are you sure you applied The agressive fan curve? Save it. Make sure Precision is running in the background.

Yeah no way I'm running my fans that loud 24/7, if anything I'd want to set a quieter fan curve than stock. There are other cards out there that are near silent (ASUS TUF) under load using the quiet bios and max out at like 72*C (quiet) and 64*C (normal bios). As from my post above, EVGA said my temps were not normal and want me to RMA. I'm just worried the RMA is just going to be the same issue and it's just a cooler design issue.

During port royal stress it goes over 86*C. Gaming on stock fan curve at 100% load is similar. Gaming at 80-90% load is around 80-82*C. See my in depth post above for all the testing I did on the card. Edit: It's just way too loud using the stock fan curve, stock settings, because the fans ramp way too high to try and cool it once you past 76*C.

It should be better than the Founders Edition, which uses a much smaller cooler. Honestly I believe with stock settings it should be low 70's high 60's, based off the other partner AIB reviews. Either way EVGA already told me my card has some issue after all my testing.

Mine is at 60 degrees in Overwatch, which obviously is not particularly taxing. I am very interested in seeing if the 3 new case fans that I ordered will change things.

My card stays pretty cool. You can see me in Warzone with every setting maxed out at Stock, Undervolted, and Overclocked. Temps and Fan speed are listed for each. https://youtu.be/CtrZRD3pu9s?t=395 My case is gigantic and I have it optimized really well for both airflow and low volume.

I have yet to see a positive thread about the 3080 FTW3 ULTRA. I've always bought ASUS cards but this gen I was going to go with EVGA. I'm second guessing this now. It seems like these EVGA cards are budget tier from only have 2 MLCC, people complaining about only being able to hit 400W, crashing to desktop issues, temperature issues, etc. Not really sure what to think at this point.

I would not consider evga cards budget cards but so far it seems simply that this ICX3 cooler is under performing vs the other major AIB cards (Asus, Msi and Gigabyte) all of those have their cards in the low 60s , msi is 72c stock/silent , mid 60 with tuf rpm settings. I hope I get my email this week but I'm almost certain my card will be high 70s and I guess I'm going to wait for the aio kit since I have had their last 3 hybrid ti's.

rshwayder My card stays pretty cool. You can see me in Warzone with every setting maxed out at Stock, Undervolted, and Overclocked. Temps and Fan speed are listed for each.
My case is gigantic and I have it optimized really well for both airflow and low volume.
Those are some crazy good temps, wish my card could hit that. Did you use any custom fan curves for the stock run? What case you using?

Stock fan curve. My case is a Thermaltake Core X9 and has all sorts of fans in it.

Just to update this- My 3 fans came today. I now have the 2 140s in the front, 1 120 in the back and 1 120 on the top. 2 fronts pulling air in, top pulling air out. Still went up to 81 degrees on Precision, and fans up to 69%. Should I be worried or just deal with it when I have taxing software running?
