Hi, before I return this to microcenter, anything I can do to reduce fan noise on this PSU ?  it's the only thing I can hear in my system.

    ugotd8,

I can confirm that this fan is usually very quiet. Can you please confirm that the wires are not near the fan and if the problem continues then I do recommend contacting our support at 1-888-881-3842 option 1 or by email at Support@evga.com so we can help you with having this exchanged.

I have this exact power supply though I have other fans that are louder so if this is loud my other fans may drown out the noise. I'll check when I'm home in a few hours and post that way we can actually figure out if it's just you two or not.

So I'm home and I checked my PSU. My fan isn't loud at all.

You're glad you refused the 1300 and got the 1200 for no reason? I have the 1300 with 2x 200mm, h110i gt w/ 4 140mm fans in push/pull combo then i have the 140 exhaust fan along with a 120mm fan on the bottom and the EVGA GTX Titan and mines still very quiet.

I don't know for 1000/1300/1600 G2 I think that sound even of them is nothing serious but P2 series is even more silent.
I read now on Kitguru about EVGA 1200 P2 and they confirm my experience with 1200 P2, PSU is very silent.

No reason ? I didn`t want the 1300 I wanted the 1200 but my 30 days was coming up on my coupon so I had to make a decision or waste it.
Glad they got the 1200 in stock at the last possible moment. I got what I wanted
The new 1300`s are not supposed to have any issues at all, and I hate RMA`s so.....

I don't hear mine.  Maybe if I unplugged all my case fans and my 4 fans on my rad for the H100i I might hear it.

    hello.
    i also have the 1300 g2 and the fan is very loud - like a corsair sp 120mm fan @ 75 - 80 %.
it`s not getting louder over time - so there is no temperature problem

is it save to open the psu and check the fan ?

It's not safe and you will lose warranty.
If you are sure that power supply will work long enough you can give to someone to install some 140mm fan with less RPM.
But generally it's not safe to open PSU because power could stay inside and after you disable power cord from wall.
I don't know exactly how long...
