Hello all, I recently purchased a 1080 Ti SC2 to 4k game on my 4k TV. I understand that a TV isn't a monitor, but even with game mode activated I noticed that there is excessive screen tear but it's more sporadic than anything. The main game I am playing right now is FFXIV and I noticed that the screen will tear especially with in game cut scenes, more so during camera movement. When it is 'busy' i only see it sporadically, but the again the screen sometimes gets a little flashy and can be hard to notice. I also notice the issue when watching videos in Windows Media Player or You tube. Any advice to help resolve these issues? I heard going to Windows 10 helps, but I am not quite prepared for a full wipe just yet. I don't have my full PC specs but off the top of my head 6700k OC'd to 4.6 16 GB RAM 1080ti SC2 stock clocks 1000 watt PSU TV/Monitor; Sony XB55-X900E using Game Mode with 4k CYbYr-444, Adaptive, or fast vsync as well as off tested and all show screen tear

I located this maybe will help you. Either one of two things is happening here. Either the tv has a smaller than 60hz refresh rate or the cable that you connect your pc to the tv doesn't support 4k/60hz. I believe that you should have hdmi 2.0 or display port 1.4 (the latest version to be certain). HDMI 2.0 supports 4k/60hz but I assume he is using that. The screen tearing however should occur because his TV has a native refresh rate of 120hz while the PC tries to match it to 60hz mainly because the cable doesn't support more so what happens is tv refreshes 2 frames when it has one (running at 120hz while receiving input for 60hz). Can you try a game which runs with 120fps constantly, without using VSync and check how it goes? here was the final solution to fix this problem for them. So here is a pretty big update: First off, the new cable didn't help at all. Second, I found a fix for it, although it is very cumbersome. Here is how to completely remove the tearing on my TV while gaming, and imagine having to do this every time you wanted to play a game on the TV instead of the monitor.
Now doing this removes all tearing whatsoever. Doing everything except for the reboot does nothing at all, and the tearing is still there. This is why I never found the solution before. If I change my primary monitor back to my main monitor, and then again change the primary monitor back to the TV, the tearing will be back, until I reboot with the TV as the Primary monitor. So, does this shed any light on the problem? Know of any shortcuts to my method? thanks THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. I've been pulling my hair out for weeks because my brand new Vizio 4k TV has at least 5 horizontal tears when I game, and I just want a seamless Fallout 3 experience now that I've spent over ten hours modding the game. I tried this solution and it worked the first time, and now it looks so good. So again, thank you so so much for figuring this out. This didn't really help. It is still tearing. I am going to try again in case something messed up. huf757 I located this maybe will help you. Either one of two things is happening here. I saw that as well, but 4K resolution can only do 60hz. If I drop the resolution to 1080P, the tv can then do 120hz though. I haven't tried going to 1080 because the point is to go for 4K. With that said if I can't fix it, I will be going back to 1080 gaming. At least it would be at 120hz.

Hmm. Do you have an option for setting the refresh rate to 59Hz? I remember reading somewhere that that will force something to work differently, and it might fix your screen tearing with V-sync issue. Not that it helps, but my 4K Samsung KS8000 TV doesn't have this issue *except* with certain pre-rendered cut scenes which are output at 24FPS. My older 4K Sony X810C TV was similar. Edit: From the Rtings review, you can try this to see if it helps: "It is possible to reduce the flicker frequency to 120Hz by increasing the 'Motionflow' -> 'Clearness' slider. This does help to clear up motion but not as well as the 60Hz flicker available on other TVs."

I get a single tear across my screen that slowly moves vertically up until it pops up on the bottom of the screen and continues, I get this with basically every game I play, any idea ? Its fricken annoying I have a gtx 1080ti sc2.
My frames are solid 60fps. I seem to get it with vsync on or off. Using an Asus 4K 60hz panel.

Doubtful your frames are a 'solid 60 FPS' across all your games. Specific title(s) and settings would be really helpful. Otherwise, we're just guessing.

I get solid 60 in every game I play, from Dota 2, to Diablo, to Battlefield 1 and Destiny 2. And in all of them, this stupid tear line that shifts slowly up the screen and eventually comes out the bottom and starts again.

I have the same GPU, typically clocked at 2037 mhz. I know exactly how it runs. What settings at 4K in BF1 are you using that you are ALWAYS above 60 FPS? If you just want to repeat your issue and not answer basic questions, I'm out.

If you have the same GPU, you should know it's a SOLID 60FPS plus, else something is wacked on your system dude. I play at Ultra settings, 4K (motion blur off because, motion blur is stupid). And no, I never drop below 60fps. Really, if you do, maybe yur hittin power limit and throttling or something. The rest of my rig isn't all that much better than yours. Same ram, i5 8600K OC'd to 4.7Ghz or 5Ghz depending on the day. Never drop below 60 FPS.

Actually your processor is somewhat inferior, but you should still be fine over 60 FPS. I easily stay over 60 FPS with default ultra settings DX12. Though as you know there are settings where you could cripple your FPS at 4K, but it's nice that using the NVCP fixed your issue. I'm not having any on my 4K Sammy, default vsync in game nary a tear in sight.

Might wanna check that CPU comp again, even stock the i5 8600k gets a couple more frames in most games, and my OCs (generally) higher than yours. But thanks for responding with an offer to help.
