There's a thread on the Geforce forums (linked from H) also.
I'm having the problem with a different vendor FE card, wasn't early enough to score an EVGA at MC.  Doesn't matter though, all the same.  The problem is really annoying so I'll return my card if it's not patched within the return period.  Hopefully they sort it out soon.

I'm baffled that this wasn't mentioned in reviews.

I wonder if it's a bug in the latest release of Precision, since none of the reviewers mentioned anything like this.

It's mentioned that those who have the issue experience it even without any monitoring software open.

I've got this problem with my Evga 1080 FE. I suspect the problem is widespread. Hopefully it's an easy bios or driver fix that happens in the next few days, otherwise I'm going to have to return the card for refund. I suspect this is going to be a huge problem for nvidia once a lot more people actually get the cards this week.

Run Valley with sound clicked off and it's easy to hear the problem, and monitoring with fan speed and fan tach confirms it.

Here's hoping there is a fix soon and it can be easily corrected.  I have 2 incoming in a few days.  It seems to effect a lot of users but not everyone.

7 pages worth on GeForce.com and growing.  Most feel that it is a bios problem on the card.  Precision, nor Afterburner does anything to help.

I have been pretty active on the geforce forum as I am the owner of a gtx 1080 FE with the fan revving issue. Most people now think that it seems to be a hardware defect. There is a user with two identical cards, one showing the problem and the other not. In the same PC.

If you were like me and thought your card did not have this issue please turn off some of your other fans and take off your headphones while gaming and you will see.  I have this issue too gents.. Card is going from 1400 rpm to 3000 like if it was a heartbeat.

There is also a support guy who said yesterday on the forum that nVidia has not been able to reproduce the issue as yet. All their cards are working okay. They are still in the process of acquiring a card with the issue!

Same problem here. Card: EVGA GTX 1080 Founders Edition. But i noticed, that when i tested a game (1 - 1 1/2 hrs, without PrecisionX) all seemed fine. Then with PrecisionX in the background, i had the fan issue too.
I have taken a screenshot of the precisionX monitoring (fan speed) - you can see that the fan is spinning (shortly) up to 3000 rpm like every 20 - 30 sec.

Post the screenshot later, im at work currently ;)

I hope its not an hardware issue and can be fixed with an bios update/maybe precisionX update, because the card itself is great.

    EDIT: Uploaded image.
In the marked (red) area you can see the fan "waves" (3000 rpm peak) - and it sounds like the ocean, too - amazing ;-)
(Still need to check if the fan does this without PrecisionX in the background)

Normally you'll "hear" the problem without PrecisionX or Afterburner running, those just make it easy to visually see what you're hearing.

Makes you wonder if the issue will cross over into the custom cards as well.  Especially if it IS the fan controller.

Just checked playing a game/benchmark without anything running in the background: Problem persists, fan does spin up and down... (the whole "ocean"-thing, mostly after like 5 Min. in-game - Ok, so it is not PrecisionX's/Software fault)
Hopefully it can be fixed via a bios update.
According to GPU-Z the BIOS-Version of my card is: 86.04.17.00.80

Precision, Afterburner, (and GPU-Z?) show the fan tachometer feedback shoot up and ramp down but DO NOT show the fan speed % (input to the card) changing. This means that the card is doing it even though nothing is telling it to do it. I am afraid that it sounds like a hardware issue with either the fan controller or the FET/circuitry in the fan. We shall see. Not looking too good though. Hopefully they are able to truely fix the problem with a BIOS update or driver fix and not just fudge a hardware problem with a crappy software solution.

Yeah, me too. Even with a GTX-1080 FE at 2.1 GHz, my GTX-980 SLI still beats the Firestrike score so I'm not worried at all.

This makes sense but like you hope there is an actual real solution.  I bought 2 of these and they will come tomorrow, so I shall see if I have the same issue.  I normally have a pretty aggressive fan curve on my cards so perhaps it won't be as bad.  I assume that the fan controller/circuitry is on the board itself so not an easy fix.

I am fairly confident that EVGA will take care of it's card buyers.  If the issue cannot be easily fixed then it would come down to returning it for a refund; getting a working replacement or some other compensatory means to help with this.

Here's hoping for the easy quick fix.  Normally I wait to purchase but I got caught up in the hype train.  :)  The cards performance itself from what I read is unaffected by this.  Time will tell but the quicker they can resolve this the better for everyone.

More and more people are noticing.  Thread now nine pages.  Everyone thought bios of the cards, but even different bios have the same effect.  More EVGAer's are there too!  This is effecting everyone.  NVIDIA can't seem to replicate the issue...Hmmm!  Where's the marketing department?

Supposedly the fans do it even with fan curves on Precision and Afterburner.  Somehow...whatever is causing is over-riding it.  Correct...performance is NOT effected.

I thought I read that if you set the fans to around 75% then it is not noticeable, at least the revving part.  The cards would certainly be louder.  :)

Now lets see them report that it's a hardware issue.

I really hope it's not a hardware issue. I don't want to RMA my card back for a refund, but I will if it's not fixable with bios or driver updates.

Manuel also confirmed that their drivers and Windows 10 could open up certain screens to having their EDID corrupted. Nothing came of it and that was 9 or 10 months ago, with the problem still very real and soft bricking screens to this day.

I don't want to RMA my card, too - i hope it is not an hardware issue, that would suck =/ (The card itself runs really nice, and it's the first card since a long time that has like no coil-whine)
I knew what i was doing by buying a brand new product, but it came out the right time and i simply couldnt resist - right after my experiment with a [GPU of another brand] failed ;p

Good news!  Hopefully they get it sorted out and fixed.  I would hate to see anyone RMA for refund over something fixable.

Glad I didn't buy any of these.

Yeah, me too. Even with a GTX-1080 FE at 2.1 GHz, my GTX-980 SLI still beats the Firestrike score so I'm not worried at all.
