    Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/18 16:46:02 (permalink)
Well, I just downloaded and updated the first BIOS chip (I was still running off the 3rd chip so the system would boot with my 4930k CPU) - when booting, the system POSTs fine and I can get into the BIOS to change options but Windows 7 x64 will not start. I get the normal boot messages coming up on my screen and the usual Windows logo boot animation but then I get a black screen. I rebooted, went back into the BIOS and reset everything to "optimized defaults" but still couldn't boot into Windows 7 x64.

I flicked the BIOS switch back to the 3rd position (v2.02) and Windows booted normally...

    Am I doing something wrong?

The first time I tried to boot I had enabled XMP 1 as soon as I could get to the BIOS - the second time would have been at the default profile. I can try it again if you like?

XMP Profile 1 works for me now, but I have not tested Profile 2, though. G.Skill memory @ 2400 MHz (rated for 2666).

So far, so good. I can once again enable the PLL override and the memory now has correct xmp settings for corsair dominator 2133 1.5v.

Same RAM and same issues. Had the same issue since day 1 with this board. Tried the RAM in a Z87 config and 2400 worked just fine and I tried another 4930K since I thought maybe I just got a chip with a crappy IMC. Nope. Both were like this on the Dark. This was XMP Profile 1 btw. Profile 2 with 2133MHz works fine.

    ---

I got this message when I was updating the BIOS: "PDR Region does not exist" in yellow text in the command prompt. I don't remember if this was the case for other BIOS updates but I thought I should point it out. Rest of the process went fine.

    CPU-Z is still showing 0.800V.

Haven't had time to test overclocking.

Thanks for giving us the option for the beep.

Yup always got PDR Region does not exit in yellow text, from p55 to x79. So far so good. Got some good voltage reads on eleet  0.73 but hwmonitor pro is wrong.
No peep sound is too odd. Who are the one that highly requested for turning off the LEDs now according to the bugs thread guy. So you turn off the beeps and peep, then you want to turn off the lights.

Next you would get a thread saying, EVGA come on fix the board we can't tell whats wrong with it cause there are no POST beeps / LEDs to tell us what's wrong with it.

It does a voltage spike to overclock the CPU ? It caused these error. Refer to the thread http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2032825

    No hitches so far.

XMP profiles 1 and 2 both show and work correctly, CPU temps reads out on the MB instead of the AA code when running in UEFI, PCIE lights are back to red. I went from a 8 second boot time to 6 (from post beep to desktop) Vcore and temps reads correctly in AIDA64.

Looking good. Only thing I cant test is the Vcore spike on boot. I don't have multi meter handy =(

Looking forward to hearing about that issue.

Also Running with K-boost enabled. Not sure exactly what that feature does. Is it like K-boost for Nvidia GPU's in precision X ?

As far as I know, K-Boost is the option EVGA added to allow control over the voltage spike - disable K-Boost to stop the spike. I may certainly be wrong though ;)

    I still can't get Windows 7 x64 to boot with v2.07 - boots fine with 2.02 though... :(

In my opinion works the board very well, i have no big troubles.  If CPU-Z show me the correct voltage it will be perfekt for me.

New BIOS works well so far!

    Few minor problems though.

At first it defaulted my 4930k to 3.9GHz - (39 x 100 - exactly the same as 2.05 did. The machine restarted and it was sorted. Weirdly.)

Board still hangs on boot with error code 64 when an external/USB hard drive is plugged in.

Silent mode is spelt wrong - "Slient"

    All good bar the above!

Does the debug LED show temps or something while in windows? I notice it goes up while on load (Prime95 or IBT) and it goes back down and stays that way while browsing or idle. If this is the case and it's showing CPU temps, it's pretty off for me.

I have a watercooled 4930K that shows 20-25C on idle in HWMonitor, but the board is showing 15.

Pretty cool feature if it does show temps. I had no idea.

Tried setting the XMP for my dominator platinums 1866mhz. When i save changes and restart, it gives me BF code which is memory training and then it shuts down.
I turn the rig on again and it hangs on b7

Does the debug LED show temps or something while in windows? I notice it goes up while on load (Prime95 or IBT) and it goes back down and stays that way while browsing or idle. If this is the case and it's showing CPU temps, it's pretty off for me.

I have a watercooled 4930K that shows 20-25C on idle in HWMonitor, but the board is showing 15.

Pretty cool feature if it does show temps. I had no idea.

Yup it does, page 23 of the manual. It shows CPU socket temperature not the core temps so i get a slightly lower temp as well.
