I am using the G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB and have not yet found a way to set them past 1333... Kind of frustrating actually. Does not matter what I do with the CPU (Including stock bois settings) they simply will not run at the XMP settings...
And every time I do update the bios... I have to remove three of my four drives so that the BIOS will see the drive with the OS on in and not error "Hit any key" at startup... The BOIS defaults to the top drive on my setup, and my top drive is a storage drive. Not able to see all four drives at the same time in the BOIS thus far...
I have the same ram. I am able to pass linx at 4.6ghz, but get random bsod with 8.1. I plan to test the same oc but leaving the ram at 1333 and see if the problem continues.

I have been running 4.7ghz all evening with my gskill ram set to stock (1333mhz) and have not had a single bsod. The question is now, is it the motherboard that is the issue or should I RMA the ram? If I set the ram to run at the rated 2133 at 1.6v I will get a BSOD at least 2 times an hour.

Did You try to rise VSA and VCCIO voltages 1 - 2 steps?

He probably was  I am afraid that I send the ram back and I will have the same issue. I saw afterburner was having the same problems, but it sounded like he couldn't even boot into windows. That is why I am thinking it could be the motherboard.

Are you using the correct version of Eleet? On the download page there is a link to download Eleet, then below that another link to download beta 0.7.3 for X79 Dark / Z87.. use that second one [ link]... first one will have problems, as I found out.

Are you using the correct version of Eleet? On the download page there is a link to download Eleet, then below that another link to download beta 0.7.3 for X79 Dark / Z87.. use that second one [link]... first one will have problems, as I found out.
Didn't know there was an update to it. Will install and check it out. Thanks! EDIT: That worked, everything is there now. and working better than the old one.

DITCH Eleet and use AIDA64. It works and it gets updates almost daily.
AIDA is not perfect either. In the past I have assisted them with troubleshooting bugs. However AIDA is very good for what it does and I recommend it

AIDA is primarily a monitoring tool, Eleet allows you to test overclocks. I've used AIDA64 for years (previously Everest).. but when I installed my x79 Dark, AIDA64 was reading voltages wrong (for example, 12V rail read as 10V, and missing some other info I wanted to monitor).. this may be because x79 Dark was so new, but I stopped using AIDA64 because of it. Have they got it updated now for the x79 Dark?

They had it updated and working "correctly" within a day of IVY-E launch.
Unlike Eleet which is still shifty at best.

Aida64 has stress test tools for all your hardware. CPU, FPU, cache, system memory, local disks, & GPU's. They also update at least once a week typically. You have to go into "Preferences >> "General" and make sure to check for updates and set the update type to stable & beta updates. Since the Dark was released & I installed it, I've had 4 or 5 updates now & I only have Aida check once a week.

Being that I renew Aida for 2 yrs at a time, it's $29.94 that way. It's a better deal. Otherwise I think it is 40 bucks for a single year. Although, I may get that price because I've been buying it now for so many years. I don't really remember for sure.

No need to get defensive (if you are), I'm not bashing AIDA64 at all! Yes AIDA64 has stress tests as well as monitoring, and other useful utilities, however you cannot adjust your overclock with it - that (for me) is the primary use for Eleet - certainly far better than going to the bios every time! That is what I use Eleet for, and for that purpose it is an excellent tool. AIDA64 for ongoing monitoring - definitely. It also has a nice hook into my G15 keyboard display.

So, back on topic. When is EVGA going to address the sleep issue and having to reset CMOS just to turn the board on at times?
Rant below:
I'm really frustrated, because I had such great experience with EVGA and my 780i that I decided to make EVGA my next board - they were great with every aspect - hardware, software, documentation and customer support.
I decided to buy their top of the line board thinking it would have all the features I desire and then some. After purchase, I come to find out that it is crippled by the BIOS (I'm also annoyed at how sparse the manual is). Buying a $400 board that has a crappy BIOS is like buying a brand new Ferrari and finding out it has no engine - unacceptable. Now I'm seriously regretting my decision and thinking about how I can cut bait and switch to the RIVE.
End of rant.

You thought their 780i was good, should have seen their X58 - awesome!
I have been following their progress on X79 boards, and was well aware they were having some big issues with this board - enough to keep me away from getting one - until I saw and read about the Dark.
I think they have done a great job hardware wise on this board, bios wise not as great - but from what I am seeing, they are working hard on it and have made significant progress in the last 4 weeks.
I have a new in box Dark sitting here beside me, awaiting on me to gather the last of the components to start the build. I have a feeling by then there will even be a better bios.
RE: Sleep issues, I am not as hopeful on, their X58 has always had issues with sleep as well...

Thanks for the reply d.burnette. I agree they have done a great job in the last few weeks addressing the BIOS, but it really is crazy that they are just now putting in this kind of work - this should have been done before product release. I feel like we were beta testers for a $400 product. I just don't get how the basic features don't work and how they have all these bells & whistles settings that don't function correctly - if they are going to put them out there, they should work (at least most of the time for most users).
As far as sleep, I didn't follow the X58 so I was unaware of that. But it is pretty ridiculous that I could go buy a $40 mobo (my server is running on one) that can do sleep right out of the box - my 780i was able to also. From the X79 Dark manual - "Supports wake-up from S1 and S3 mode" - that is flat-out false advertising. I like to use WOL and sleep so I can access my machine from anywhere, any time. The whole sleep issue might not be that big of a deal if the boot time wasn't so slow and inconsistent. Sometimes it boots twice and other times it just hangs for no apparent reason.

Yep, I had their 780i before the X58, and their 680i before the 780i. Both Nvidia boards resumed from sleep just fine - I was disappointed the X58 would not, but it was so solid in all other aspects I just became accustomed to shutting it down. And I am disappointed to see this is a problem with the X79 Dark as well, don't know if they can resolve that, would sure be nice if they could... but that one issue won't be a deal breaker for me.

I noticed that with near default configuration with 1600 MHz memory configuration, that VSA and VCCIO are set fairly high. This is with both set to Auto. When setting VSA/VCCIO to 1.050v in BIOS, the voltage readings are the same as Auto. Here is what I have seen.

I'm having problems. -Sometimes post will hang with an FF error code, once that happens for one bios, it happens for all three until I get lucky and it boots. Then the error code goes away on all three bios's till next time it happens. -Sometimes I hit the power switch and the fans flicker on then off and a yellow led lights up next to the 24pin power cable and I have to hold the power button down until it goes off before I can try to start it again. I have a seasonic platinum 1000w psu. This seems to happen 3 out of every 5 times. -When I reset one bios it breaks my raid 0 array and I have to remake it, loosing all the data on it. Even if I have the raid 0 array working on all three bios's I reset one bios and it breaks the array on all three.
-2400 kingston hyperx beast will not run above 1867, though that might be a limitation of my 4930k, I'm not sure. Does anyone else have a seasonic platinum 1000w psu that could let me know if they have the second problem? It seems like it could be psu related.

Evga Dark is called "The Answer" , but can`t see many answers in Evga Dark sections from the staff.....
