I would but that leaves no room for the optical drive.

Going to have to dump the optical, case is running too hot.

How about mounting it to the front of the case.  I know you'll have to ditch the gaint fan, but it might work better for you.

I see you went Prodigy Sav!  Looks like a sweet little case.  Good decision on dumping the optical.  I would have done the same.  I have better cooling luck the the rad mounted to the top or the front.  Let me know how you are liking that case and if the cooling is better on top for you.

The prodigy is a fairly good case for the price. I think that the H80 is defective. It doesn't cool worth a damn in any position lol.

I just bought $300 of custom cooling gear and I am returning the H80. I will assemble the new rig this weekend and if I can actually get it cool enough to OC I will be posting it on mods rigs.

Don't know, haven't gotten mine yet.  And I won't be OC'ing the memory.  Plan to install 1333MHz dimms and leave it at that.  But I will be OC'ing the multipler on the CPU to see where the thermal thershold will be at.

The H80 that I have was used to cool a QX6700 processor, which is about 130W TDP.  It did fairly well and allowed me to OC a bit more than what was allowed.  Went from 2.66GHz stock to 3.2GHz OC'd and still kept the CPU temps in the 70's C on the low setting.  3.46GHz was where it required the med fan setting to keep temps down in at least the 80's.  At 3.7GHz, the H80 couldn't handle the heat anymore as temps were hitting 90's on the high setting.

Now as for the H100, love it.  Keeps the i7 930 OC'd to 3.6GHz below 70's all day long.  And that is with the fans connected to the mobo for temp control, all they do is idle.  Only when my room starts to get warm in the summer does the fan speed increase to keep the CPU in the low 70's.

so what processor?  I know the 3770 is OVERKILL, but that is the one I have been looking at...but which?  The 3770, 3770S or 3770K?  all on newegg.

and crezno...do you think i can run your setup on air?  obviously not overclock it like you did, but how do you think the 690 or 700 series (whenever it comes out) will do in that small of an area? and have you seen all the new mitx cases lian-li has?  i think they are 2 small though...not enough room for power supply

Sorry for the long delay.  But yea you can do it on air. In fact, I had the 690 in there and a 2600K OC to 4Ghz on air and it was running just fine. The case allows the intake of the video card to get air from directly outside, so it runs cool, and the CPU has a quite powerful fan blowing right on it. It stayed within safe temps with the stock air cooler. There are a ton of low profile heat sinks you can use too.

Yeah it only mounts that way unless you have other hardware that it does not come with, so I moved the rad to the top and have the air flow reverse of normal, but uniform. IMO the bitfenix 200m spectre is a badly designed fan. I would have bought the 230mm spectre pro but it was out of stock pretty much everywhere when I ordered.

Super awesome. BTW where would XMP be an option in this BIOS? My supposition is the overclocking section like many others.

Yes, most 200 MM fans are poorly designed. The best one I've found is the NZXT 200MM, and even that needs zip-ties to install in most cases.

So I got the Z77 Stinger in today.  You know I could not wait a day much less another hour to get my hands on it.  The design layout is almost perfect for the SG05 case layout with the Zalman heatsink (photos).  Thou I did have a memory issue (code 55), but it would seem after I input the memory speed manually (1333MHz), changed the Power Down DIMM to auto, changed Check Memory Alisa to Enabled, seems to be working good now.  Thou I do have a complaint on the VREG switching noise.  When the CPU is idling or low work, it makes a lot switching noise & whining.  But under 100% load while folding, seems quiet.  I've already spent enough hours today on it.  I'll mess with the UEFI settings again tomorrow.  Below are photos on my Quartz rebuild.

Re:EVGA Mini-ITX Z77 2012/11/29 04:19:33 (permalink)
So after a night of letting it fold, its still running within the safe zone.  Temps did get a little higher than I wanted, but nothing a few tweeks won't take care of.  Also noticed the VCore is showing awfully low (0.848V), which is a good thing.  When this CPU was on the ASRock Z68, VCore was around 1.248V.  Guess I got room to OC some more past 3.8GHz if I can keep it within thermal limits.  A pleasant surprise when I went to sleep was the color effects on the front fan.  With the white & orange leds reflecting off the fan blades, it gave it a nice color defusing effect.  Plus I can see the LED Debug numbers through the fan when its spinning.

Edit: Forgot to mention this in earlier post, but it seems the CPU temp is off by 15*C average too high.  So to make the fan speeds works correctly, I got to add 15 degrees to my desired temp setting.  Which is weird because on my X58, it is the opposite.  Got to subtract 15 degrees for the desired temp setting.  So this may need to be corrected on the next UEFI revision.

Thanks I will try this setting this weekend. It's nut just windows though, you can't get into the second stage bootloader of linux with the frequency increased either.

Another possible issue that I ran into while tweeking a few settings.  On the Memory voltage, if I leave it on Auto, it won't boot and gives code 55.  If I set it manually to 1.500V, it will boot.  Same with the VCore settings except backwards.  I set the VCore to 1.250V and it won't boot, set it to Auto and then it will boot.
.
Been trying to find a setting to quiet the VReg's switchs down.  Don't like the whining chattering noise they make when the CPU is idling or under light loads.  Does anybody elses Z77 Stinger make the same noise?
