So, I decided to start folding. I did a little before and built up like a puny 8,000 points, but I'm trying to go full force now.
On one computer I have the linux bigadv in VMWare folding with my i7.
I also have a GPU folding software on the same computer folding with my GTX 295, it seems to be working on one GPU, is there any way to make sure it folds on both GPUs?


On a second computer I have it folding a GTX 285.

Is there anyway to monitor my username to see how many points I build up when folding on to separate computers?
Also is there any other heads up, or things I should know to fold a little bit more effectively?

    Sure thing! Are your computers both in the same household? If you're running Windows 7, connect both computers via Homegroup. You should be able to share your documents, pictures, videos, and music between the two. The easiest way I found was by installing F@H to your documents folder. Then, using either HFM or FAHViewer, navigate to that folder via Network, and then you can view the output of both on the same computer.

    Also, there are flags you add to your GPU shortcut ( -gpu1 and -gpu0 ) but I'm not really sure how that works with a 295 or any other card like the 295

    I second the motion on HFM monitoring multiple machines. It seems to run better in Windows than Wine for me. An often overlooked feature is the csv file created by HFM that lists every wu completed in one place, easy to open in a spreadsheet to view history. You can download a free copy here: http://code.google.com/p/hfm-net/

    On your Linux client be sure to place the working folder outside of the VM so it will be persistent and make it visible to HFM with a Samba share. If you need more details, let us know.

    One last thing make sure you use your EVGA forum name as your folding name on all of the clients, I looked for it but didn't see ie in EOC, here is the link to our team summary in EOC: folding @EVGA, there are others, but this is the one I like the best. The down side of using just one folding name is that all of the stats are combined every three hours, so HFM is needed to break out each machine individually. Hope you will fold with our team number 111065. Go ahead and use your pass key on all clients as just a good practice.

    I still didn't find any good guides with folding on GTX295 both gpus as well. =\

    Looks like you have credit appearing under your name in your posts, so I am assuming it is fine.
     
    Not sure what you can do about the computers. If they were in the same bldg., I would say do as Sleepee said and use HomeGroup and HFM.net. HFM.net's creator (harlam357) drops by sometimes so you could maybe ask him via PM?

    Your folding name does not need to match your evga forum name. Under member home go to my profile and input whatever folding name you want to use under evga folding name. ( you can make a new one if you want but I would just use the old one) As for bigadv I believe its windows only now so you do not need the vmware. Ill need to do some looking or get one of the bigdogs to confirm it but I am pretty sure that to get the bigadv wu's you need to be in windows. Also make sure you fold at least 10 smp wu's with a passkey attached to your folding name to get the bonus points that make bigadv worth it so just run the normal smp client until you start getting bonuses. You can get a passkey here

    As for the leaving one core for the gpus its normally recommended to do so that the gpu's get fed a constant stream of info and work more efficiently.  To do so you would have to enable smp-7 which would still allow you to get bigadv wu's (just needs to see that theres 8 threads on your machine) but I would recommend a higher clock to run big adv on smp-7

    But personally I use jedi95's gputrackerV2 to run all my folding bc its one program that can run many clients and is quite simple. To enable bigadv you just click enable and then set how many cores to run it

    As long as the computers are visible to each other on the same sub network, HFM should be able to read the logs. Otherwise run HFM on both machines and combine the csv files, brute force I know but a simple way to go.

    If you want to qualify for EVGA bucks then using your forum name is a good idea but not mandatory.

    In linux to change your folding name, assuming the client is stopped, start the client in the terminal  with the -configonly parameter (ie ./fah6 -configonly), type in the new name where prompted, also add -smp -bigadv when prompted for extra parameters near the end of the configuration. -smp defaults to 8 threads.

    Same thing for the windows clients except modify properties of a shortcut to the F@H executable (ie c:\...\fah6.exe -configonly) to make it easy. If you are running -bigadv and want to leave a thread for the GPU, in the windows client configuration add -smp -7 in the extra parameters.

    Both configuration processes write the the info to the client.cfg text file, so you can look at what the what is currently being used, but don't edit the file directly in windows with notepad. I am told notepad will mangle the file.

    Restarting the clients without -configonly parameter will begin/resume folding using the new parameters.

    Good point and true, Standford is looking for a defect in the linux client and is currently withholding bigadv work units (wu) until found and fixed. Historically, the linux client was the only way to go to get bigadv wu. For me, I am too frugal to purchase copies of Windows for every machine I want to fold on but still fold smp with reduced bonus points, it is a trade off.

    So far I decided to start using gputrackerV2 for both my cpu and gpu folding, thanks Great_Shovel.


    So I didn't run into any problems I also changed my username to my EVGA forum name and gave it a passkey for security.


    Heres my config file for gputrackerV2.






    Does it look correct? Both my GPU and CPU are being maxed, but oddly enough when I look at my client stats in the program its empty. 


    It has some points in the main windows for gputrackerV2, but my CPU says disabled, my SMP always says 0%, but my gpu client seems to be working?


    Sorry if these are basic questions, I'm still very new to this and trying to figure everything out.

    How long has it been sitting there at 0%? does it have a WU listed already? can you post a pic maybe. And for a 295 I think it sees it as 2 different gpu's but im not sure. In precision or afterburner does it show both running 100% if not you may need to enable gpu folding on gpu1 as well. make sure you dont enable gpu3 as that is for fermi cards

    This is very important. Make sure you download the tracker to your data hd and not the ssd. It is well chronicled that it could cause issues on ssd's. I am sorry I didnt say this earlier as I overlooked the ssd in your sig. You might lose the wu's youre working on now but it is much better for your ssd

    My SMP is finally showing progress, but the stats widow is still empty?
    As for the GTX295 It only runs on one GPU, but when I enable GPU1 and try to fold with it, it says there is no such thing available?

    Ok im not sure how the 295 works w folding maybe ask jedi95 in the gputracker thread. The 670X wu's take a long time (not sure w overclock but at 2.8 It took me about 15-18hrs per wu) so it makes sense that your only now at 1 percent. They are some of the most hated wu's out there bc they lower the comps ppd quite a bit. Look at my edit on my previous post

    Oh as for the stats it wont show up until it has completed a WU with the tracker. Also Like I had said earlier I would turn off bigadv until you finish 10 normal smp wu's with your cpu and passkey because you wont get bonus points until you do and they are not worth the time (ppd wise) it takes to do them without the bonus. Once you have 10 done you will be able to get bonuses and it will increase your ppd a lot. the 6702 will get you around 3k instead of 921 points

    No lol the actual work unit is what lowers your ppd not the program. The program just configures your clients for you. It isnt very efficient ppd wise compared to others. And Bigadv is only able to be done on windows now not linux so vmware is kind of dead for folding till they bring it back. Im looking for 295 info as well and will post it if I find any

    Am I understanding you correctly? So you selected the force g80 option and it didnt work? Ok this is kind of random but what driver version are you using to run your 295?

    Yes, I have SLI on, using the g80 option and it still complains about drivers.

    I'm using the drivers 258.96

    Yes, I have SLI on, using the g80 option and it still complains about drivers.

    I'm using the drivers 258.96


    Oh its complaining about drivers, not that its not seen?

    I looked over the posts you sent and my temp for the second GPU isn't very high so I highly doubt it is doing anything.

    Also yes it says 
    At present your GPU is not supported or you need a current driver. You may wish to consider running our standard client, which you can download at folding.stanford.edu

    Thats basically what the picture said. I didnt think it was needed anymore but can you try a dummy plug in the second gpu? another option is a major pain but it helped fix one of my 470's for a while was remounting the card. Im not suggesting that yet because its one of the gpu's on the card is folding just fine. maybe both gpu's are working on 1 wu bc of sli. Stop the gpu and try disabling sli and then start them back up

    Try the "extending the desktop method" for getting that 2nd half of the 295 to work.
