acetone gets everything off ;)

I heard hydrochloric acid, get rid of everything.

crank it up to 11 and use Fluoroantimonic acid

wasnt going to mention that one since it isnt a common acid. Stuff is messed up. I still wonder what the most corrosive material is though.

So the lowest spot on the top of the IHS is 3.552mm thick (bottom of the PCB to the top of the IHS).  The top of the die is at ~3.0776mm.  The thickness of the solder is allegedly .3658mm, but I really wouldn't trust that number to be accurate to the real world.  So if you take off about .45mm / .0177" then that should leave a very thin amount of IHS above the solder that can then be lapped down.  You can take down the edge of the IHS as much as you want avoiding the capacitors.

EDIT: and it will start cutting into the retention wings because the die height is lower than those.

Those guys were also looking to start a company.  While I wouldn't mind... right now I have 2 other careers to look out for, this is purely a hobby at the moment.

I will be expanding my horizons in the coming weeks so I will keep you guys posted when some developments worth mentioning come up.

What has happened with this CPU?

I know the EK Supremacy x99 is just the same old Supremacy Block, with newer mounting system, but after installing it i couldn't get into windows.  It would hardlock prior.. So, I dumped the overclocks and it was still no good.  Next, I removed and reinstalled the CPU and the block, and what i got was nice... Temps at 4.5 in the low 60s rather than reducing the overclock to get there.  4.5-4.6 used to net mid to high 70's.

I am not saying buy this block, obviously.. but I am getting better than prior averages, and really like this block all around.
