So last week when I went to pick up my new 660, I had a bit of a face palm moment..

I had researched the card for over a week.. I knew the exact model I wanted, and I knew just about everything I could know about it. I was even ready to talk up the salesmen about gpu performance if it came up.. so finally I got to the counter and said:

"I'd like an EVGA (I pronounced it Ev-Gah) GTX 660 Ti FTW 3 GB, product number XXXX-XXX" but instead of recognizing me as a hardcore gamer like I thought he would.. he just looked at me with a curious look and said..
"Ev Gah? Ohhhh you mean E-V-G-A"
Maybe it was an over-reaction but I felt like an idiot.. all I could say was...
"Yeaaaa... E-V-G-A"..

Anyways, I had some friends with me at the time and they thought it was hilarious.. but I don't think I can be the only one. I mean if you didn't know it was an abbreviation you would think its like any other 4 letter word. Its got vowels.. so I want to know how many, if any, people originally would pronounce E-V-G-A as a word before they knew better :p and how long did that take? for me I've been buying EVGA products for about 2 years hahah

I have worked in customer support and computer sales for a while and I have heard a lot of people call PNY "pony".  Not sure where the "O" comes from.

The way to cheat is just find their YouTube channel and watch a few of their videos. You'll then officially know how a company name is pronounced. ASUS was a surprise to me in 2011. I felt super dumb over that one. :)

Just went to youtube and watched a vid from their channel and they said ASUS (ey-soos) just like I have said it since day one. How did you think it was pronounced?

Yep, buddy of mine would say A sis, I knew what company he was talking about. I've always said E-V-G-A too and not sure how I would react to someone saying Ev Gah lol.

Without the periods, no one knows it was an acronym that evolved without an expanded form.  I heard that once at a UPS store returning an RMA once, the cashier was confirming the receiver info it and said "ev-guh", and I was like 'yeah'.   If it was a techie shop of some kind, I'd correct them, but in the real world I just don't bother with regular folks, they'll forget anyway.
How would you pronounce "nVidia"?  I say "in-vidia", not 'en-vidia' or 'nuh-vidia'.

I've see a few videos were Asus tech's pronounce it as "Uh-Soos", and I'm like, okay I pronounce it "Ay-Sus" because that it what the letters look like to me.

Also Intel's Nehalem architecture, Intel reps say it differently than I do.  They say it like "Neh-Hay-Lem" so it rhymes with "Van Halen".  Except I pronounce it like my name, as if the 'h' is silent, "Ney-Lem", but I've been saying "Ney-Lim" for years.  I suppose it could be "Ney-ah-Lim", but I drop the 'ah' sound.

^ yep, I used to to say Asus, the same as the spelling. When I heard it on the tube I had to practice my Spanish ascent, but  sometimes I don't feel like doing that so I just say Asus. I figure if they want me to say Ahsoos then they can spell it that way.

I spell out EVGA. Ev-Guh just sounds stupid to say to me.

Here is the rule for abbreviations. 3 letters then spell out them out. Like PNY. If its 4 letters or more then you usually say it. Like EVGA, NASA, ASUS.

    Intel i7 11700k l ASUS PRIME Z590-A l ASUS TUF RTX3080Ti l 32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro l Evga 1000w Gold l 512GB Samsung EVO l 2x5 TB Storage Drives l  Corsair Crystal 570X White l Audio Engine A5+

Don't feel too bad.  Back in the early 2000 years, I thought eVGA was another type of video port that came out.  It was a face palm moment when I then learned it was a company that makes video cards.

I call it evgah all the time. Not sure why but I am a lazy speaker so evgah is easier then spelling out e v g a for me. Not sure why. But I only say it when in ts or something and once I got used to spelling it out I have been spelling it out more often now. I used to actually thing it was pronounced ev gah when I first got into computers so I can understand why you would do that.
