Ok - this is one solution to reach 4 GHz with 875k.

It's also possible to disable K-Boost, set Multi to 30, Enable Turbo and Speedstep an set the Offset core ratio to 0 0 0 0 (not disable, must be enabled).
Turbo must be enabled when using K-CPUs (or you can't use a multi higher than 22)

What I still missed is the powersaving... that was the reason, why I decided to upgrade vom 860 to 875k.
C-States C6 works.. or not? I don't know.. can't see anything in windows about that.
Speedstep works, of course, but 1,32Vcc while 9x133 = 1200 MHz is needless .. it's always 1.32Vcc -.. with 1,2 GHz or with 4 GHz.
With C1E my vcore jumps to dangerous values.. it's out of control - from 1,3V in BIOS it boosts up to 1,52V.
So in my opinion.. it has to be disabled.

And.. if you clock with the multi (K-CPUs), normally you don't need to increase VTT. VTT is at stock ... in my system at 1.04V.
VTT needs to increased, when pushing the BLCK.
Only Vcore is necessary..

I'm still waiting to see "oc the K-CPUs the right way" by the EVGA Team (see the video from Jacob)
Please EVGA post a overclocking guide for the K-CPUs!!!
I'm using BIOS A72.
So many users here change their MoBo from EVGA to ASUS.. and now, they are happy.
I don't want that!!!

Thank you so much for the help, this worked great! I set the multiplier to 22 and the Offset to 8 = 4GHz approx. with all the settings you mentioned and I boosted the voltages a bit too. The Offset is really confusing if you are new to the i7 and i5 chips, but now it all makes sense. Everything seems to be solid in benchmarking. The only thing that causes a lockup is E-LEET, which makes no sense since it is basically CPU-Z on steroids.

I am confused what the issue is... what are your goals for the overclock? Speed? Turbo? Power Savings?

I have  had the best luck controlling A72 it still has it's issues but I have figured most of them out. If you just want all cores to be a certain multiplier the easiest way is to turn off K-boost set the multiplier to 22 which is stock setting then Enable C-State, Enable Speedstep, Enable turbo mode and engage the offset control for the four core settings 1,2,3,4 if you set all of these to 8 for example it will take your base multi (22) and add the offset clock (8) this would give you a solid 4.0ghz(30*133=3990mhz) at the standard blck setting 133. I would also turn off power saving features (automatic voltage adjustments) EIST and C1E which can throw off the stability until you know how your chip will react. Your current voltage should work as long as vdroop does not take it much lower than 1.3v. Give that a shot and if you have any other questions just shoot it back on this forum I will be happy to help a fellow 875k owner.

I totally agree with dozer3000 we need the power saving features fixed there is no reason for evga a premier overclocking specialist community/company to fall behind asus in quality overclocking products.

Re:EVGA P55 Motherboards - BIOS 72 Released 2010/10/30 14:29:44 (permalink)
Hi,
I just got my motherboard the other week. I tried to install the updated version of bios in windows 7 64 bit but its not going through, after pressing capital Y hit enter, the black window automatically closes. Does this means the bios is already updated? because I cannot find any option where I can disable the start up process of the board if its correct the "clock gen" to be disabled, every time I turn on my PC, it will shut first then start again. Hoping for your help, thanks.

No... did you write a "y" or a "Y"?

@thegcpu: very nice :) but.. sad that it only runs like hell on an ASUS board..
but very nice optic.. red sleeves etc.

Tryit with "As Administrator"...
100% sure you got the right BIOS?

The ClockGen Feature automatically switched on when using a PCIe click higher than 100 MHz or the BLCK is higher 200 (here not automatically).

unzip it to a folder or somewhere before trying to use it.. if you dl it then try to run it without unzipping it it will close the box on you..

Sometimes the Bios updater can be a bit fidgety, when updating try not to use your comp or have any programs ruining in the background.

Re:EVGA P55 Motherboards - BIOS 72 Released 2010/11/24 14:05:23 (permalink)
I had so many problems with that 72 BIOS, I just went back to 70 a few days ago. This Turbo Offset stuff is meaningless for a K series chip, IMO. On the 70 BIOS, all I have to do is turn on K Boost, set the Multiplier to 28 (I have an 875K), make sure Turbo is on and I get 3.7GHz with NO overclocking. Here is what I do, I leave on Speed Step, but turn off C1E, and C States. Why? I have E-LEET and happen to have a Logitech G15 keyboard, and it displays the info on my keyboard and Speed Step drops the voltage with the multiplier, so what are the point of "C States"? I am at 3.7GHz without changing any voltages - I have everything on Auto, and without Vdroop. "Auto" for my setup is yielding me a stable 28 x 133 @ 1.28V, but also idles at 1200MHz with a scant .92 Vcore. I'll take that over trying to get another 300MHz and having to even touch the voltages.

The board runs beautifully now. I have not had one crash. Also, I don't need to really "Overclock" the board at all. I am only changing the multiplier. Lastly, with K Boost on, all 4 cores run at 28x. So, why use the offset?

do us all a favor for the love of god, MAKE BOOTABLE ISO BIOS UPDATES!!!!!!
if you cannot log into windows due to say the bios not picking up your memory corretly, then these stupid .zip files DO NOT WORK!! and the average user will never EVER figure out how to update the bios in their brand spanking new board.

What in god's creation stops you from doing this? (see red highlite above).

In 2010 everybody oughta know how to make your own boot disk.
Adding the afudos.bat, xyz.4m, and the afudos sub-directory should also not pose THE challenge.

In 15 years of working with PCs, I have not seen any vendor provide a bootable ISO.

I too got a new P55 micro board, my first "i" series setup, and I was really confused on how to update the BIOS. I had done it many times before with a CD, and thought I still had to do that. Your instructions need to be clearer, I wasted so much time figuring that "Oh! you just run it!"

Maybe one day I shall figure out what it is that makes some people publicly out themselves as unable to follow a five step instruction set................

solution... most of these have multiple BIOS... switch to BIOS 2 or 3. smile and wave.

i'm grateful that it's so simple. the last thing i want to do is sit around and make a bootable flash drive or ISOs, etc... wastes time/resources... clicking a .bat file is simple.

Re:EVGA P55 Motherboards - BIOS 72 Released 2010/12/05 18:52:22 (permalink)
For some reason when I type in "Y" and press enter the command box just goes closes and nothing happens. Any reason why this occurs? I would really like to update my BIOS for this new E657 mobo I picked up

Un zip the file to C:\BIOS
Click start -> type command <enter>
In the black command prompt type cd\ <enter>
type cd bios <enter>
type AFUWIN64.BAT <enter>
Hit Y.
Then power on again and go into BIOS, Load Defaults, Save and Exit.

Should I be concerned if my pc is crashing randomly, i have the original bios on my 2nd mobo selector and A72 on my first mobo selector. i dont get random crashes with my 2nd bios.
I'm not completely sure which version it is at the moment that i have on my 2nd mobo selector.
I'm not OC'd and all my voltages are stock.

hi,

1) 4 GHz is easy, after 4 GHz it's going hotter, you'll need much more voltage on Vcore and / or VTT to get it stable.
2) try to use an safer RAM setting for the CPU clock test
3) this is nothing for the BIOS RELEASE Thread

Re:EVGA P55 Motherboards - BIOS 72 Released 2010/12/31 12:11:37 (permalink)
SPACEGOAST, I had the same problem until I extracted the file to my desktop, then it worked.

When I use the "dummy overclock" I get blue screens before I even get to the desktop. Can I reflash to an older bios or could it be a voltage problem? I never updated my bios before and figured I'd try it, don't know much about overclocking but if ya think I could benifit from changing some voltage numbers let me know.  Have no idea what settings to use though.

I have the evga p55 sli board
 i7 860 cpu
8 gigs ddr3 @ 1600mhz

without overclocking the cpu runs at 2.8ghz, with teh dummy thing it goes to 3.3. I get 33 degrees C while surfing the web, during gaming it has never gone higher than 45c
