I'm personally waiting for the Z390 Dark. If I were to buy a mobo now, I'd probably pick up one of the high-end Asus boards.

What kind of features are you looking for?

Asus is typically a great go-to. I haven't owned an Asus board in awhile so I can't speak from experience but I do know they have a very mature BIOS and as long as the board doesn't arrive DOA they are pretty reliable. Is there a reason you don't like the Z390 FTW? That is a strong contender as well. I plan to push my 9900k to ~5.2ghz so I'm holding out for the Dark. If overclocking wasn't a main goal for me the FTW looks solid too, especially since they've fixed the vdroop issues.

I've been looking a lot of a Z390 boards for my 9900k. I have my heart set on the Dark but honestly, almost all the offerings from MSI, ASrock, Gigabyte (except for that $600 MEG Godlike) and Asus all look pretty good. I'd say it's hard to go wrong this generation.

    z390 Dark! :)

That's what I'm getting but honestly, the Dark doesn't fit his needs and would be a waste of money.

Technically, the Dark will fit his needs better than the FTW.  Most importantly, the Dark has included WiFi, whereas the FTW does not.  With our new GUI BIOS and the OC Robot feature, you can let the board do the overclocking and then save the profile later... or continue tinkering with it.  Although it does have a lot of other features and menus that the OP may not need, the most commonly overclocking settings are still easy to locate and use.

I do agree that there may be a lot more in the board than it sounds like the OP is looking for, but the absence of WiFi from the FTW would tend to preclude it from the discussion.

I will be curious to check out that OC Robot, I am intrigued.
I keep checking almost daily for that "buy now" button to appear below the Dark specs.

I was watching a video on how to overclock on asus mobo, and to my surprise they really up their game. I was thinking to myself EVGA better have something new too!

I would recommend checking out ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero (Wi-Fi) Z390.
It's available today for under $300
