well my 1st shot at over clocking the sr 2 with dual e-5645 at not bad ..

@ 3.6ghz on the cpu all threads --just how do u over clock the rams guys --need some help in that section - i have 24gb gskill cl9 4gb modules in to 6 , 3 each .

just how do i over clock them to say 1866 or above .

and how much more can i push the e5645 can i do over 4ghz / or 4.2ghz on them and at what voltages and what other setings do i have to change as for now i only changed the voltages of the cpu and rest is on auto .

would apprecite some help from experts please .

You can reach 3.8 GHz if you turn on the Turbo in the BIOS (x19 multiplier), you will be very lucky if you can go beyond 200 bclk.

EVGA SR2 at 200 Bclk, default voltages
    2xXeon E5645 at 3800MHz Turbo on, default voltages, 2xCoolerMaster V6GT
    2x24Gb Kit GSkill Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 1600MHz  (12x4Gb)
    4xZotac GTX480 Quad-SLI, default clocks and voltages
    2x WD Caviar Black 2Tb 7200 RPM
    Silverstone Strider ST1500W
    LianLi V2120X

1.329v seems like way to much to only be doing 3.6Ghz. Looking at your CPUZ screen shot.
    I run my E5645 at just below 1.3v at 19x221 4,195Mhz.
I don't have the SR2 yet, this is on a single 1366 socket motherboard.

I'm looking at buying the SR2 right now and may order before the day is out.
Sounds like the BCLK is some what limited by what massdestructor is saying.
    I sure hope not.

People start hitting the proverbial brick wall at around 200 MHz on the SR-2. Unsure how to overclock the memory on that board.

I will either find a way, or make one.

to overclock your memory bclk x 10 = speed so use the 1333 setting and that will multi by 10 to give you 2000mhz. use the strap to narrow down the xmp timings and then fine tune your timings from there. not saying the board will boot like that, just saying that is the speed.  you need to read through this forum a bit to see all the posts regarding voltages and such. many such posts specifically about your chips. YMMV

Wolf: please don't try to give answers from other chipsets in relation to the sr-2. most sr-2's will not boot with bclk much over 200. I have seen reports of 215 at the highest stable but that is a white elephant.

Wasn't giving answers about BCLK, I was saying the vcore voltage looked to high to be only running at 3.6Ghz.
Even on a SR2 I'm sure even the worse E5645 would do 3.6Ghz on less voltage.
More like 1.20v or less, unless its a real dog of a chip.

That or all SR2 are messed up if it has to use that much vcore to do such low speeds.
I sure hope the latter isn't the case because I just pulled the trigger on a SR2.

rgr wolf, just don't be surprised if you need to do things differantly on this board. a 50% overclock on bclk will usually need voltages like that on this board as confirmed numorous times in the last 2 years of threads. some people do better some worse, depends on a lot of things. I have never booted my sr2 with 5645's I use 5670's so YMMV of course. his voltages are actually lower than recomended by EVGA's sr-2's guy here. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=268280

    for turbo always on

turn on speedstep, turn on turbo, turn off all c-states. in windows set to high performance. it will lock in the x19

    for mem at 2000

    set mem speed to 1333
    set bclk to 200
set strap to whatever the mem is rated at. it presets your timings to something close to the rated profile.

just get it stable then back your voltages off till you get unstable then up it a notch, you know, standard procedure.
BTW you wont get 1.2vcore stable at 200bclk unless you know voodoo and alchemy.

emm thanks brother -- obvius 1.2 wont be possible for a 4ghz oc on an e5650 what should be the vcore voltages etc -

and the ram timings should i leave them at default or loosen the timings .

    stock 9-9-9-24 @ 1600 so for 2000 can i do 9-10-9-28

np, use this template as a starting point follow the 200bclk settings then back down from there as needed.
    http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=268280
for mem strap it to 1600 and leave at default. if those arnt stable then loosen from there.

btw that template was made by the guy who was on the develpment team who made the sr-2 so it is a very good thread to read through. it was made on a earlier than current bios but the info still applies.

if you have problems with stability then play around with it. nothing is an exact science every piece of silicone is differant, just like snowflakes.

when you run your mem speed high like that, it places more strain on the cpu's as they contain the mem controller and need to comunicate between themseves and the memory. it can be tricky to find your sweet spot. if 1333 doesnt work (which I would be surprised if it did), run it at 1064 that will run your mem at 1600 if you are at 200 bclk putting you exactly in spec. you can then run strap set to ratio and expect a greater posability of a stable experience.

Here are my settings, most likely they will not do you much good.
If your board and chips is anything like mine you'll probably need 1.265v or more to do 19x200 stable.

Edit: Grat is tell you some good stuff just go with what he said and you should be fine.

glad you got it working. thats a nice chip you got theree5620 with 6 cores FTW how much did that cost?

    Nice going! Looking good.
Actually with the above motherboard R3E and the E5645 or the E5620 not much tweaking at all needs to be done.
Set core and memory voltage, mem timing everything else is pretty much on stock or auto.
I've tested these two chips on 3 other motherboards ranging from Sabertooth X58, UD7 and P6X58-PRO.
Both chips do 216Mhz on 3 of the 4 boards the P6X58 Pro has the best BCLK of the 4 going to 221Mhz stable for each chip.
Voltage and tweaks are pretty much the same across all 4 motherboards.
These are the easiest CPU's I have ever overclocked and the most surprising as far as how low the voltage can be to get such a OC.
I been OCing since the early socket 486 days starting with Abit motherboards.
I have so much old hardware I could start a museum with it. roflol

But as said many times it all comes down to the hardware your using as to what OC you will end up at.
Every chip and board are different and take different settings, mostly trail and error finding the sweet spot.
Edit: BTW my SR2 with luck should be here Monday, I'll start a thread to post how its going once I have it in hand.

@ brother actually i had a m4e with 2600k --loved it like anything --a friend had this setup ---though he paid top $$$ for it -- he used it for a year or so i guess --never over clocked any thing coz he does not know about it -

he called me a week back if i was interested --though my eyes were on rampage 4 and 3930k ---but i had to wait for some cash to come in --

i guess what i have to pay is roughly 1318/-

dont know if thats much or less ----

@ i need to over clock the rams  - i set memsrap at 1600 and manualy set the mem setings 9-10-9-24-2n -
it sets voltages at 1.65 if i leave on auto   is that ok coz the default volts are 1.5volts on gskill .

or should i keep the mem strap at 1600 and start to tighten the mem setings

i just installed my 4 gpus and strangely windows seems very sluggish even the boot up sequence seems to take long to boot --

dont know the reason --all setings are on optimal defaults -

can any one tell any reason for this --even double clocking on a program in windwos causes it to take some time to load -

gpuz also does the same when i select 1 gpu and then the other for information it tends to think a lot and the round cicle keeps on moving round n round .

do i have to increase the speed of the cpus or some thing -

this is a strange behavior though .

try setting your memory low gap to 3gig

very strange i have set it to auto , windows seem to work fine , no sluggish things so far --but i noticed before i ran wprime at stock and it did 32m at round about 4.4 sec now its taking 14 seconds .

why is this ---strange ..do i have to fine tune more options in the bios ...

i did the mem low gap to 3g --windows seems ok but i noticed that benchmarks which were before quite good like wprime did 4.4 seconds on default clocks with 1 gpu now strangely take 10 sec with 4 gpu

    why --?? ....strange though .

Did you go into Adv settings in wprime and make sure to set to the correct amount of threads?

i did that thanks ---noob me --forgot that it was taking in only 4 threads .

i want to know more about ram over clocking anyway -

if i set the mem strap to 1064 and the blck to 200 ths would mean the ram is now at 1600mhz ---correct

and if i put the mem strap at 1333 and blck at 200 this means the rams are now at 1866 or 2000,

do i have to set the ram frequency also or should i leave that at auto , at 2000mhz i do have to adjust the timings or should i leave them on auto as well .

for a 4ghz over clock or more are the following values fair enough ..i have 2 -e5650

    Bootup CPU0 Vcore:  1.35
    Bootup CPU1 Vcore:  1.35
    Eventual CPU0 Vcore:  1.3625
    Eventual CPU1 Vcore:  1.3625
    Bootup CPU0 VTT:  1.350

    Eventual CPU1 VTT:  1.350
    CPU0 DIMM Voltage:  1.65
    CPU1 DIMM Voltage:  1.65

and should i set the mem strap to 1064 --so ram is  at 1600+ i think .

those voltages are reasonable. you are getting strap and frequency backwards though
you have 3 options in mem frequency. 800 represents a 6x ratio, 1066 represents a 8x ratio and 1333 represents a 10x ratio. (stock 133 x10 = 1333) get it? so when you set bclk to 200 then you need either 6,8 or 10 ratio to set speed. if you are using 1600 ram set frequency to 1066 which is the x8 multiplier to give you a speed of 1600.

strap is what you want the memory profile to look like. the best in this case because you are dead on your target is to use the ratio setting. you can use 1600 as well if you like. what it does is adjust the latancies to be aproximatly the same as if you were running the mem at the speed of what you strap it to. then just leave the latancies on default because they are all set by strap.
