Rubidium is the chemical element with the symbol Rb and atomic number 37. Rubidium is a very soft, silvery-white metal in the alkali metal group. Rubidium metal shares similarities to potassium metal and caesium metal in physical appearance, softness and conductivity.[6] Rubidium cannot be stored under atmospheric oxygen, as a highly exothermic reaction will ensue, sometimes even resulting in the metal catching fire.[7]

Rubidium is the first alkali metal in the group to have a density higher than water, so it sinks, unlike the metals above it in the group. Rubidium has a standard atomic weight of 85.4678. On Earth, natural rubidium comprises two isotopes: 72% is a stable isotope 85Rb, and 28% is slightly radioactive 87Rb, with a half-life of 49 billion years—more than three times as long as the estimated age of the universe.

German chemists Robert Bunsen and Gustav Kirchhoff discovered rubidium in 1861 by the newly developed technique, flame spectroscopy. The name comes from the Latin word rubidus, meaning deep red, the color of its emission spectrum. Rubidium's compounds have various chemical and electronic applications. Rubidium metal is easily vaporized and has a convenient spectral absorption range, making it a frequent target for laser manipulation of atoms. Rubidium is not a known nutrient for any living organisms. However, rubidium ions have similar properties and the same charge as potassium ions, and are actively taken up and treated by animal cells in similar ways.

These potato pancakes known as Reibekuchen in Germany are savory, sweet and addictive!

They are super popular during the Christmas market season and also come to town with the annual funfair.

LIST OF INGREDIENTS

- peeled potatoes [500 g / 17 oz]

- apple puree [100 g / 3.2 oz]

- half onion

- nutmeg [1/8 tsp]

- salt & pepper

- vegetable oil to (deepish) fry

Servings: 2

Energy per serving: 462kcal / 1933kJ

Macronutrients: 27 g fat, 55 g carbs, 5 g protein

INSTRUCTIONS

1. ⁠Peel and grate the potatoes into a bowl
2. ⁠Drain the potatoes juice into a separate bowl, don't throw it away
3. ⁠After a few minutes, the starch should deposit on the bottom of the potato-juice: pour the juice away and mix the starch into the bowl of grated potatoes
4. ⁠Grate the onions on finest blade on top
5. ⁠Season with salt & pepper and add ground nutmeg
6. ⁠Heat up some vegetable oil, enough to cover pancakes of 1 cm height
7. ⁠Once the oil's temperature is at 130°C/266°F, reduce the stove's flame to low in order for the oil to not get much hotter and put a ladle of the grated potato-mix into the oil
8. ⁠Form the pancakes by gently pressing and let fry for 7-8 minutes, until the corners turn golden/brown
9. ⁠Turn upside down and fry for another 7-8 minutes
10. ⁠Take pancakes out of the oil-bath and place on a plate covered with paper kitchen towel to get rid of some of the oil
11. ⁠Serve with apple sauce/puree and enjoy!

Almost all of it lies in Asia, but a small portion extends into Europe. Istanbul, the largest city of Turkey and best-known example. The Bosporus Strait separates its European and Asian portions.

Instructions

1. ⁠Clean three potatoes.
2. ⁠Peel the potatoes.
3. ⁠Slice the potatoes thin.
4. ⁠Give the chips an ice bath (4 minutes).
5. ⁠Dry the chips with a towel.
6. ⁠Use a pan with frying oil.
7. ⁠Fry the chips.
8. ⁠Let the chips dry on a paper towel.
9. ⁠Add salt and bell pepper powder on the chips.

There are now 118 known elements. In this context, "known" means observed well enough, even from just a few decay products, to have been differentiated from other elements. Most recently, the synthesis of element 118 (since named ) was reported in October 2006, and the synthesis of element 117 () was reported in April 2010. Of these 118 elements, 94 occur naturally on Earth. Six of these occur in extreme trace quantities: , atomic number 43; , number 61; , number 85; , number 87; , number 93; and , number 94. These 94 elements have been detected in the universe at large, in the spectra of stars and also supernovae, where short-lived radioactive elements are newly being made. The first 94 elements have been detected directly on Earth as  present from the formation of the solar system, or as naturally occurring fission or transmutation products of uranium and thorium.

Ingredients

• ⁠1 clove of garlic halved
• ⁠2 tbsp butter softened
• ⁠2 cups heavy cream
• ⁠1/2 cup milk
• ⁠1 tsp fresh thyme roughly chopped
• ⁠1/4 tsp nutmeg optional
• ⁠2 tbsp chives chopped, divided
• ⁠1/2 tsp salt or to taste
• ⁠1/2 tsp pepper or to taste, freshly ground
• ⁠1/2 cup parmesan cheese shredded
• ⁠1 cup gruyere cheese shredded
• ⁠2 lbs yellow potatoes sliced into about 1/8" (3mm) thin rounds

Instructions

• ⁠Preheat the oven to 400F. Grab the halved garlic and rub it, cut-side-down, all over the bottom and sides of a 10 or 11" cast iron skillet. Discard any garlic leftover. Spread the butter evenly all over the bottom and sides of the skillet.
• ⁠Whisk the heavy cream, milk, thyme, nutmeg, 1 tbsp of the chives, salt, and pepper together in a large mixing bowl. Taste for seasoning and adjust with salt if needed. Add the sliced potatoes to the mixture, making sure each slice gets coated well.
• ⁠Take about 1/3 of the potato slices and lay them in an even layer into the prepared skillet. Sprinkle half of the shredded gruyere over the potatoes. Add another layer of potatoes, the rest of the gruyere, then top with the rest of the potatoes.
• ⁠Pour the remaining cream mixture in the mixing bowl evenly into the skillet. Cover the skillet with foil and bake for 1 hour, until the potatoes are tender. Remove the foil and sprinkle the parmesan cheese evenly over the potatoes. Bake for another 15-20 minutes, until the top is golden brown. Garnish with remaining chives and serve.

The remaining 24 heavier elements, not found today either on Earth or in astronomical spectra, have been produced artificially: these are all radioactive, with very short half-lives; if any atoms of these elements were present at the formation of Earth, they are extremely likely, to the point of certainty, to have already decayed, and if present in novae have been in quantities too small to have been noted. Technetium was the first purportedly non-naturally occurring element synthesized, in 1937, although trace amounts of technetium have since been found in nature (and also the element may have been discovered naturally in 1925). This pattern of artificial production and later natural discovery has been repeated with several other radioactive naturally occurring rare elements.

Niobium, also known as columbium, is a chemical element with the symbol Nb (formerly Cb) and atomic number 41. Niobium is a light grey, crystalline, and ductile transition metal. Pure niobium has a Mohs hardness rating similar to that of pure titanium,[2] and it has similar ductility to iron. Niobium oxidizes in the earth's atmosphere very slowly, hence its application in jewelry as a hypoallergenic alternative to nickel. Niobium is often found in the minerals pyrochlore and columbite, hence the former name "columbium". Its name comes from Greek mythology, specifically Niobe, who was the daughter of Tantalus, the namesake of tantalum. The name reflects the great similarity between the two elements in their physical and chemical properties, making them difficult to distinguish.[3]

The English chemist Charles Hatchett reported a new element similar to tantalum in 1801 and named it columbium. In 1809, the English chemist William Hyde Wollaston wrongly concluded that tantalum and columbium were identical. The German chemist Heinrich Rose determined in 1846 that tantalum ores contain a second element, which he named niobium. In 1864 and 1865, a series of scientific findings clarified that niobium and columbium were the same element (as distinguished from tantalum), and for a century both names were used interchangeably. Niobium was officially adopted as the name of the element in 1949, but the name columbium remains in current use in metallurgy in the United States.

It was not until the early 20th century that niobium was first used commercially. Brazil is the leading producer of niobium and ferroniobium, an alloy of 60–70% niobium with iron. Niobium is used mostly in alloys, the largest part in special steel such as that used in gas pipelines. Although these alloys contain a maximum of 0.1%, the small percentage of niobium enhances the strength of the steel. The temperature stability of niobium-containing superalloys is important for its use in jet and rocket engines.

Niobium is used in various superconducting materials. These superconducting alloys, also containing titanium and tin, are widely used in the superconducting magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics, and jewelry. In the last two applications, the low toxicity and iridescence produced by anodization are highly desired properties. Niobium is considered a technology-critical element.

- fresh milk [1 liter / 4.2 cups]

- butter [50 g / 1.7 oz]

- sugar [100 g / 3.2 oz]

- short-grained rice [80 g / 2.8 oz]

- egg [1 yolk]

- corn starch [20 g / 2 tbsp]

- vanilla aroma [2 ml / 0.4 tsp]

Servings: 6 Energy per serving: 244kcal / 1024kJ

Macronutrients per serving: 10 g fat, 32 g carbs, 7 g protein


INSTRUCTIONS:

1. ⁠Boil the rice in plenty of water (should cover the rice by 2 inches)
2. ⁠Heat up the fresh milk over medium-high heat, keep stirring and don't scorch it
3. ⁠Stir in the vanilla aroma and sugar into the hot milk
4. ⁠Strain the boiled rice and add it into the hot milk
5. ⁠Reduce heat and let simmer for 10 minutes, in order for the rice to soak in some milk
6. ⁠Pre-heat oven to 180°C/356°F in "Grill Mode"
7. ⁠Egg-yolk and starch will serve as a thickener: mix both with 50ml of milk in a separate bowl
8. ⁠Once the milk and rice simmered for 10 minutes, increase the heat to high and once the milk starts boiling, add the thickener (spoon by spoon)
9. ⁠The milk should thicken after a few minutes of boiling and stirring
10. ⁠Add the butter into the milk, which will add more taste and help our Turkish rice pudding to get a nicer crust
11. ⁠Turn off the stove once the butter is fully melted and evenly distribute the pudding mix into oven-proof forms, which are at least 3cm/1.2inch in height
12. ⁠Place the forms on a baking sheet, pour water on the baking sheet (should cover forms at half height)
13. ⁠Insert the baking sheet on top level and let the rice pudding bake/grill in the oven for a few minutes
14. ⁠Monitor the process, and be aware that not all puddings’ tops will be burned evenly. Get your Turkish rice puddings out, once as many as possible got a nice dark brown crust.
15. ⁠Sprinkle with crushed hazelnut and enjoy!
