Hey just wondering if there is a way to convert molex to 3 pin... i got a scythe kaze master pro 6 fan controller and 6 GT's at 5400 rpm to go in my new rig. Thing is, because the molex's plug right into the psu cords, even though it has a 3 pin adapter that goes to the fan controller, the fan controller can't actually do anything because it can't direct the flow of power away from the molex... am i screwed? PerformancePC only has a 72 hour return policy... I think i'm out 187 bucks... the fan conroller works great for the regular corsair fans that only have a 3 pin adapter, but because the gentle typhoons have the 3 pin and a molex... i can't lower their speed and 5400 rpm is too high to use. any suggestions?

not supposed to use the molex and 3 pin from the fan connector if you're trying to regulate the power. Use just the three pin coming from the controller to individual fans. The psu molex goes to the fan controller.

The GT's draw a high amperage so they have a molex power supply and a 3-pin rpm signal wire, they are different then a regular fan. To OP: That adapter should work but you might not get an rpm signal from the fan. But you never know.

LOL thats not what he meant daveyd007, the fan uses molex for power but has a 3 pin for monitoring RPM only. what nick linked is exactly what he wants, and i bookmarked that as well because i need some myself LOL.

ah so because i was plugging that yellow wire that has a 3 pin ending into the scythe fan controller, that is why i coudln't actually regulate the speeds... but if i buy that adapter for the molex, will that essentially let me monitor the speed without being able to see the from the yellow cord? its all confusing.

A fan speed is regulated by the fan controller when you plug the fan to the fan controller.

+1 ^^^ yellow is usually the tach signal on a three pin fan connector, red can be either +12VDC or +5VDC. Black of course is the ground wire. Ignore the CVS connections and temp sensor info if your controller doesn't have it.

Yes you will be able to adjust the speed, you just won't be able to see the rpm of the fan. You might however be able to take the pin out of the rpm connector and lock it into the empty slot on the 3-pin side of the adapter, that would allow the controller to see the rpm output signal. Another thing, these monster fans pull 1.14a and your controller is only rated for 1a per channel. Not sure how long each channel will last, or if it will work at all.
