Hey guys I've recently had a few of my DVDs get scratched and since I have a DVD burner I am planning on backing up my DVD collection on them. My problem is with all the different formats that they sell on newegg I don't know what to buy. I want my back ups to play on most home DVD players. My burner is the following model :  http://www.newegg.com/Pro...36-147-_-Product  , That's the old link to the newegg link for it. My question is I guess, what is the most common types of media people use to do this kind of back-ups and is it the general norm I guess for home DVD player media. Normally I've not had to worry about discs but with me having room-mates now I need the piece of mind that I still have the original in decent shape. Thanks for any responses.

It's been my experience that DVD-R and -R DL are most likely to be readable on older DVD players, as that article says (or implies).

Generally newer players can handle most media types (with the possible exception of DVD-RAM).

If in doubt always go with DVD-R and not the + as those will not work in every drive or DVD player. Your drive does support both as well as DL (dual layer).
