My first 3000 series card was the 3080 FTW3 Ultra, I really can't remember me having that problem with that card tbh.
My 3090 however, could never reach 500 watts (with the 500w XOC bios) so I rma'd it. I have not seen EVGA offer that for the any other cards than the 3090 cards though.
Yea, it seems that some cards, possibly more often the earlier cards, will happily pull 450w and pull from all 3 8-pin connectors equally. There is some speculation that it was a hardware level change EVGA made to reduce failures (red light of death?).
It doesn't appear to be something that relates to the BIOS, as the voltage controller isn't programmable, and decides based on various physical readings. Seems to be hardware related, as EVGA are RMA'ing and replacing 3090 FTWs that have the exact same issue.
3090 FTW3 Ultra Uneven Power Draw Across 8-pin cables? - EVGA Forums Its certainly is an unfortunate situation, since as far as I was aware before I bought this card (and passed my thermal pad modded 3080FE to my brother) I thought it was a 450w card not a 400w card. Right now all I'm gaining is 30w of power draw, while having to deal with that all 400w of heat is ejected into the case, while with the FE it was exhausting at least 150w out the slot.
