PMax detection allows for the processor to be throttled back when it detects that power limits are being hit. CPU power limits can be adjusted in the bios.

Unless OP has changed some settings in XTU X299 does not have power limits at least not on the Dark (default is unlimited). This may be the BIOS Bug that I had found previously... let’s see what he posts to my reply.

83•c is pretty hot.. core 3 is hot and throttling.

You also have the core Voltageoffset at -.05. Can you set offset to 0 and lower your overclock so core 3 doesn’t start to meltdown?

Can you post photos of your settings in the BIOS? I can test yours on my Dark and 7900X and see how it compares.  Also what BIOS version are you using?  It may be a bit before I can test maybe thursday or this weekend.

I actually have it hooked up now lol.

Everything else are in my Signature

    A few things of note...
Since you are running BIOS v1.09 you don't have the BIOS bug that I was originally thinking that you may have that being said I would update the BIOS to v1.17. Do not update to a newer version than v1.17 as Intel broke the microcode for AVX-512 and it will cause weird throttling issues. To ensure that you are getting accurate temperature readings you need to make sure that the TJunction value in the BIOS is set correctly, for your CPU it should be 95C. Also I agree with @the_scarlet_one above your CPU is running too hot... generally speaking X299 does not play nice with temps above 80C. Adding to that are you trying to cool a 10 Core X299 CPU with a Corsair H80i 120mm AIO? If so that is no where near enough cooling capacity for that CPU, which would explain the high temperature values that you have. In addition while some variation in temperatures across cores is somewhat normal a 15 degree temperature difference seems a bit high.

At this point until the BIOS is updated and the temperature issues are taken care of I would not bother trying to determine what "might" be causing power throttling to take place...

Also as mentioned above there are no user adjustable power limits in the BIOS on the X299 Dark and as far as I know X299 does not have a set power limit, it is unlimited.

95c is tjmax for that cpu, so a few cores hitting mid 80's shouldn't be causing a throttle condition unless the processors thermal control system is busted.

You really don’t want that below 1.800v... Too low and you will start to get “phantom throttling” which can be near impossible to detect. I think TiN talks about this in his X299 overclocking guide.

I would normally somewhat agree with you... However given that he is running OCCT with AVX disabled and basically running 4.3GHz those temps are very high...

I am also not liking the AVX-512 test either... its not really applying an AVX-512 load across all cores at the same time. While that may better represent actual AX-512 usage in applications I would rather see a "worse case scenario" type of test when it comes to stability testing. I will have to play around with it some more... but so far OCCT is still looking the way to go.
