Arriving will be Intel's 13th Gen and 700-series platforms, Ryzen 7000, NVIDIA's next-generation GPU, DDR5 temptations, Gen-5 PSU’s and a bevy other new component launches. With that Intel is expecting to introduce its Raptor Lake CPUs along with the Z790 motherboards later this month? This said I wonder when EVGA will be introducing the Z790 Kingpin and delighting us again. Perhaps the all new KP hitting a cool boost of 5.6 GHz on all cores right out of the box and in tow with DDR5-6000? Will there be a Z790 Classified MB be joining the party? KP Z790 pricing? $1,100-plus? For me of course it’s carefully re-checking my pockets which seem to be empty given our ongoing economic woes and perhaps will be so for some time come!

Moved to Hardware as this isn’t a new thread. Hopefully the holiday season is very eventful with all of the testing videos coming.

Having a 3080 FTW 3 Ultra I am really interested in the 3rd Party reviews. For people who have a real need to upgrade then it’s pretty safe to just jump on the new generation ASAP but I sometimes skip a generation since gaming on the current hardware will last for a couple years of playing with settings maxed out or near maxed out.

When we get DDR5 that is lower CL+Fast that can run in gear 1 at full speed easily is when I would consider moving forward. Until then it's a game of other new tech catching up to the times on our builds.

agree.  z690 was a good platform.  13th gen fits, ddr5 timing will get better and pcie5 cards are coming soon.  rebuilding for z790.. why beyond the vanity of it?

My big issue the z690 platform and 12th gen the DDR5 ram even the supposed lower CL faster stuff 6400-6600mhz not being able to run in gear 1 and having a siliocon lottery chip it in a lot of cases to get that faster ram to work to me is not worth it. Its why I opted for the z690 DDR4 board and some good b-die 4000mhz DDR4 ram. Only reason to move to z790 is if you plan on getting the new pcie 5.0 m.2 storage ssd's....13th gen is going to be awesome but when you flick the switch in the bios that lets it hit 6.2ghz its going to get very very hot...

Interesting to watch, but no buying.... because B650 boards won't show up until the end of October, and 4080 Hydrocoppers will almost certainly be next year. I have a feeling we will see AMD even launch 7000 X3D processors before the hydrocopper cards are out.

it does seem like the memory is very finicky. I guess I got lucky with my ddr5 kit. There is zero chance I’m upgrading mb’s just for gen 5 nvmes. It actually looks like AMD is going to leapfrog intel again on 13th gen based on that intel leak but we shall see!

I think the issue with 12th and 13th gen is the chips IMC including DDR4 support. Been seeing a lot of benches too from friends those with the silicon lottery 12th gens with the right boards hit 6200-6600mhz DDR5 ram speeds no problems and their cpu scores are over 23k. Like in your case I think you can do it if you can overclock your CPU a little more. But yeah anything past 5.2/5.3ghz+ things start to get really hot.
