I have a 1080 gtx in my living room media pc for 4k couch gaming...My desktop has a measly 770gtx and I wont upgrade it until a new gtx comes out?

Any idea if we will see a 1080ti etc successor this year?

My guess is 3-4 months from now will hear it or the successor will be on the market.

Maybe with Vega only competing at the 1070 level we’ll see another 1080 but with HBM2.

I am not sure CES would make a lot of sense but so would PAX East in April or E3 in June. Odds are we would see it at one of those shows or at least talk about it.

3 months, 6 months, either way whats currently out for the 10 series is drying up fast so I'm guessing it would be soon or we will be in a GPU desert market for a few months.  When ever the next gen does hit the market I just hope it doesn't get ridiculous like it's been but it very well may end up that way.

Maybe release of a successor will ease the availability of the 1080 ti. One can only hope...

Yup.. most likely worse! That's why I feel it's best to get the best you can afford right now to get by the next 6 months+ till hopefully the prices come down when they can finally get full stock on the shelves.

After this crap no doubt it's Gona be super super crazy for the next cards release. I think no one has seen nothing yet.

The market is insane now. I've been looking for over a week and there is NOTHING! Well, almost, the collector's edition Titan xp's are available through nvidia but they are expensive and no that much faster than the 1080 ti. :/

I feel like it'll be a few months too but the real question is whether they'll put a 1-2 per household limit on them that gives us enough time to buy because I can't find anything to upgrade my VR system right now. All the stores in my area are out!

I would have said March or April. Now I'm wondering what Nvidia are thinking about the mining shortages and how it may impact Volta's launch. GDDR6 is still in its infancy and might be undergoing its own "shortage".

With the way the market is going, September for Volta release.  If the market stays strong and true, I see it getting delayed for another year if not longer.  I got a 1080 because I know I can easily resale the card to some bitcoin miner chump on ebay and get my moneys worth back and then easily upgrade to a Volta if the performance gap is right.

I don't know how easily you'd be able to upgrade. Titan V absolutely destroyed Titan XP's mining performance so expect the consumer level cards to have similar gains when compared to existing 1070/1080 counterparts and be just as high in demand at premium prices.

sometime this century... (I don't like being wrong so I make sure my predictions are relatively safe :P )

One thing I do wonder about is if the mining craze will drive up the price of volta's suggested MSRP, will we see 800-1k MSRP prices for top end Geforce Volta? or even higher? add in price gouging and the titan V may look like a viable option for those who waited for a Volta that wasn't 3k.

I assume new card will be revealed in beginning of March in nVidia's own event like it was with 1080 Ti. Availability for beefy aftermarket new cards - somewhere late summer.

That’s Titan to Titan though that’s another ballpark. Gtx to gtx is different. The Volta prices will shoot up right away and then my 1080 will hold its value because bitcoin mining ya know? It’s called a waiting game. Don’t try to sell it right when Volta is out but buy a Volta at msrp when they are out. Gotta play it smart

They do. But with how the market is Volta keeps getting delayed. Think about it nvidia normally releases a new line every year. It’s been two years since the 1080 came out and by the time Volta should be out will be nearly year 3 and they could even delay until year 4 if they wanted. It’s honestly very very bad. If the market game stays like this I may just drop pc gaming in its entirety it’s being a communist market share, and people are blindsided hardcore by that.
