Virago.  I knew that engine looked familiar.  Haven't seen one of those in awhile.

I did notice that the highway seems to get plenty crowded when I am riding. Cars just materialize out of another dimension at times and suddenly they're gone again passing me so fast the wake of airflow almost makes me change lanes.
It was a matter of economics for me. I found a 1997 Toyota Camry LE junker for $1000 but it did run good. Problem was when my lowest minimum insurance quote was around $800 per year. After 2 yrs I would have a junk car and be out $1600 with nothing to show for it except the junk car. Virago is only a 750 cc, I wanted a 1100 cc but none available. Motorcycle insurance is $75 per year. Now after 2 yrs instead of having an empty pocket and a junk car I have a nice custom painted Virago. It makes sense to me anyway. In the Winter I will wear a snowmobile outfit with a full faced helmet and visor that flips down. If it rains who cares. The same visor will keep my glasses clear so I can see and I have taken countless showers and after 61 years on this earth I have yet to melt and flow down the drain. As far as I can see, this was the logical choice. A little rain never hurt anyone. Snow and ice are a different story. That's why I have bus tokens and money for cab fare.

No way would I ever consider actively riding in the or rain.  Especially considering all the texting, distracted, blind and clueless morons out there that are allowed to have a license.

I hate wearing a helmet unless it's really cold. I just asked the local PD if it was mandatory and he didn't exactly say it was but he recommended wearing one. I was worried about getting a ticket for not wearing one. I meet all requirements to be able to choose not wearing one but my 2 yrs of riding ecperience is on a AZ expired DL, not my PA license. I ain't wearing one since the citation is only $25 plus court costs = $67. Nothing like living on the edge, right?

Living on the edge? All I can say is brain injuries suck, and a helmet is all that is betwwen your skull and the pavement. Gary Busey was a MASSIVE no-helmet activist......

Most people consider that an improvement to Gary Busey. I'm just not as reckless as he was with all of his showing off.

Considering that you had an accident awhile back and find it some what difficult to game, how is the back when riding this? I ask because motorcycles do not have the best suspension (comfort wise) and you feel the bumps.

I remember way back after I bought my brand new 79 KZ 650 B (still have it) that you are driving for yourself and the other idiots out there. Now with all the additional distractions it just makes it that much more difficult.

While I do understand what you are getting at, the car isn't that much better. Zuhl's ride probably weighs 500 lbs. give or take a few lbs. Most cars are by far much heavier and more prone to hydroplaning. A car does have a better stability ratio than a motorcycle.

My state requires that anyone moving from any state to MN must get a DL and an MC endorsement if you want to ride a motorcycle. Does PA have this or similar law?

I fell backwards on my steps when some Hungarian FedEx man made me help him carry my new 4k TV I got myself for Christmas. He kept saying "Hurry, hurry" and pushed me faster and faster until I couldn't get my foot up one of the steps and fell and thought I broke my hip. Anyway, I was getting some serious jolts from back spasms after I got finished riding but I got pills for that. The bike rides really smooth. There are some rear shock height adjustments I want to increase. I just found out that that seat is a custom model by Corbin and cost more than $700: http://corbin.com/yamaha/vmenu.shtml
I have the Dual Tour but I am missing the driver backrest. For $243 I don't think I need one that bad. LOL  That seat brings the price of the bike down to $1000 not counting the hand detailing fancy brush work on all of the panels and tank. I would have replied last night but I was really sore from riding through shopping centers and apartment complexes practicing my 'slow and goes' studying for my handling test. Hopefully they will wave that part since I have 5 yrs experience in AZ. I passed my handling test on the first try with a '85 1000 cc Virago so this should be no problem even though it weighs the same 620 lbs.
I noticed right away that once I had a short sleeve T-Shirt on and other motorists could see my prison tattoos they tended to back off and keep their distance showing me a tad more respect and road room. Tee-hee.

I bought a full faced 'HJC' helmet yesterday for $190.79 and that was the sale price if you believe that. It has a tinted lense that slides into place to cover my eyes even when the front cover is closed by sliding a lever toward the front. After that you press a button that releases a spring and retracts the tinted piece. It has two air intakes that I can open up to cool down my face when it gets hot too. You don't really notice the tint until you retract it back into the top of the helmet and then the brightness of the sun really hits you. I doubt I will wear it again until Fall or Winter comes blasting through here. I need to find myself a ski-mobile outfit too. Them buggers really keep you warm. If you wear one with the temps higher than 40°F you'll roast yourself alive!

i do like the flip down intergrated visors and will likely go for one myself when i next need to replace my lid, but the current one cost a damn fortune and is still perfectly useable in summer ... but the second it gets cool its useless the visor mists up in seconds, not what i would of expected form a £400 shoei, but it is a few years old now, so maybe a replacement wouldnt be so bad when i get my next bike.

while helmets can be expensive, its one of a few bits of kit i refuse to skimp on for my bikes, along with gloves and tyres, ive seen what happens to good gloves in an off, let alone how easily cheap ones would fall apart, leaving you with stubs where your hands once were, and tyres, well thats obvious, i always run the stickiest tyres i can find and accept needing to replace them often, ive bought bikes with cheap tyres before and it was frankly scary lol

I always had issues with my visor fogging up, even when I had it opened a crack so it had airflow. Prescott Yamaha in Prescott Valley, AZ turned me on to some stuff by Meguires. I think it was called Meguires Mirror Glaze #11. Maybe it was #10. The shop should be familiar with it. Riding around in the AZ sunshine will dry the plastic shield out in a hurry. After a few weeks it looked faded and cloudy. This stuff would restore the moisture content and cleaned it up so good it was like looking through real glass, not plastic. I need to find a some more. I know I am going to need some sooner or later.

i became a fair weather rider a few years back so it became less of an issue, ive done my time riding in ice and snow, now its time to enjoy stupid bikes that are just plain dangerous in the wet due to being a wee bit too tuned :P
