Back in April of 2015 I was looking for an archive utility that would also handle drive compression. I ran into ZIPMagic and purchased a license. Not thinking anything about it I updated to the most recent installer today to make sure everything was up to date. It prompts me for a license. I go and get the key from my purchase email and it doesn't work. Ok, so one would think that you would email asking for customer service. Big mistake. I emailed asking why my key doesn't work. The developer replies telling me that I need to purchase an "upgrade". I ask him why a purchase is required. He then proceeds to send me a discount coupon so I can re-purchase the same software all over again. Nowhere on the zipmagic site is there any mention of having to repurchase the software for updates. Not in the FAQ, not in the Terms & Conditions and not on the Buy page. He adds that by purchasing it now includes a year of "maintenance" on the license. I remind him that my original purchase was less than a year ago, falling within that original maintenance time frame. He then says that I did not purchase "maintenance" for the original license. At that time I proceed to go onto the website and look over every single inch of it. There is no such thing as purchasing "maintenance" for the license. It's pretty apparent this guy is trying to double dip on sales and scam existing customers. He didn't appreciate my explaining that to him via the next email. At this point he loses it and tells me he pulled the discount code and will not honor me reinstalling with the older installer to reinstate the license I legally purchased from him. He proceeds to tell me "Your best option here, assuming you want to upgrade to the latest version of the software, is to apologize for your bad behavior. At that point if your apology is sincere, I will be happy to share the new discount coupon code with you." Wow, the zipmagic developer is a total douche. Avoid ZIPMagic if at all possible. tl;dr: avoid zipmagic

Yes, I would file with the BBB also. I am not sure if they will do anything with software developers, but that sounds like a very childish person to deal with.

I've dealt with the BBB before. It's a joke. I complained, and they said all they could do is contact them, and ask for a refund. Of course the company refused, and that was it. Wasted my time.

I put in for a refund through their third party transaction partner. Getting a refund this late in the game is sort of a lost cause though. They process sales through payproglobal.

Agreed... But then he thinks I'm the problem, not him. He's angry at me and demands an apology and that I purchase it again. I just wanted to use the software and for him to honor the license I legally purchased from him. Donno how he can do business like that.

Apparently I'm special or something Brad, we have a policy of unconditionally approving all refund requests at PayProGlobal, but in your case we continue to make an exception to this rule. I have also copied your email to PayProGlobal's CEO. I strongly recommend you be banned from all future business at PayProGlobal. - Simon King. My email being: As you can see. The developer will not honor the software license. Nowhere on his sales site is there any reference to license duration. The link in the original purchase confirmation license email links to a current installer which will not work with the license. There is no mention anywhere on his sales site of anything called "download insurance" as something that can be purchased. It's been less than a year since the license was purchased and he will not honor any form of it being activated. He's angrily exchanged emails with me as to why I would not re-purchase another license and has been generally a very disturbing customer service experience. The developer uses your business as a intermediary for sales transactions, so he's given me no recourse but to request refund. He simply won't allow me to use the license I purchased in any form and has attacked me over the course of a dozen emails. I would question doing business with Simon King as his interaction also puts PayPro in a bad light for allowing him to persist in his actions,

What possible reason you would have to do that?. Is this like Window's "Compress this drive to save disk space"?.

ADA 64 is the same way, you have pay for upgrades, Not updates. The license is only valid for One Year and all the updates and upgrades that come out in that 1 year period.

I actually spent the time to read thru every FAQ page and all thru the contract terms & conditions and also could NOT find anywhere a mention of a 1 year license / expiration nor any addons needed .... If this really happened to you Brad ( and I believe it did ) then they/he is truly a scam artist ..... ..On the bright side, I found this in there "I am a reseller, do you have an affiliate program for ZIPmagic? Yes. Share in the magic of ZIPmagic and generate some healthy income! Please email sales@zipmagic.co to sign up as an affiliate."

Yes, that is exactly what happened to me. It's a scam. He makes up license limitations written nowhere in order to force people to buy it over and over again. He won't honor the license even if the 1 year isn't up yet.

It seems like a worthless product charging money for what is already free in windows, drive compression, and for what 7zip can do. It apparently can only compress 13% better than windows which I just don't see paying anything for at that rate. Now days it is quite rare to find a software maker that will give you free upgrades, updates yes but not upgrades. Are you o longer able to use the software you have a license for? Seems like a lot of work for 10 dollars to supp a program you enjoy and need.
