Upgraded from X58 Classified and i7 970 @ 4.2ghz. I'm going to miss that X58 platform but it finally died and it was the right time to upgrade.

Specs:
EVGA Z390 FTW
9900K 5.2ghz @1.4v. Settled on 5ghz @1.36v due to temps. Still need to fine tune voltage as this was just done using OC Robot (80c Prime95)
EVGA GTX 1080 FE EK Waterblock 2080mhz core 5400mhz mem (50C full load)
32gb Corsair Vengeance RGB 3200mhz 16-18-18-36
EVGA 1000w G3
Samsung 1Tb 970 Evo
2x 850 Evo RAID 0
EK Phoenix 360mm (CPU) and 280mm (GPU)
EK Velocity CPU block.
Monitor: Asus PG278Q (1440p 144hz G-Sync)

Nice! Congrats! What temps were you hitting at 5.2ghz 1.4vcore?

Nice! Congrats! What temps were you hitting at 5.2ghz 1.4vcore?

Synthetic loads (Prime95) were capping out at 100C. Real work loads like Cinebench were around 92C. The high temps are definitely an issue with the CPU package itself. The air being pushed out of my radiator is much cooler than it felt with my old i7 970. The heat doesn't seem to be leaving the package.

Woof, yea that's hot. Any chance you took a screenshot of HWMonitor? Trying to learn as much about these cpu's temps

Once the Dark comes out, I’ll be curious to see if my delidded chip gives significantly better temps. It will be interesting. Sweet build though. I’m diggin’ the Reaper.

I'm curious, how do you expect the Dark to give better temps? More efficient VRM allowing lower voltage to the chip?

Not the Dark, the delid. Honestly, it will be an apples to oranges comparison unless I pump in as much voltage as the OP, which I don’t plan on doing. Really, I’m just curious to see if I can keep from throttling in synthetic benchmarks with the delidded chip or if it will require a sanded down dye. I wasn’t implying that the motherboard would help with the cpu package temperature. I said that it would have to wait for the Dark because I don’t have a motherboard for my 9900k at all yet.

Ahhh gotcha. Sorry, I misread. I'm really thinking about sending this chip to Silicon Lottery to be delidded and binned.

I had mine delidded but not binned. I probably should have taken advantage of the opportunity, but alas, I did not. If it had been an 8th gen chip, I would have delidded it myself, but I didn’t want to bother with the STIM.

Just got the email from Amazon that my 9900k will be here Tuesday! Not even gonna take it out of the box, gonna send it to Silicon Lottery for delidding and binning. If it's a super low bin, will just sell it on ebay for price + delid cost then buy one direct from Silicon Lottery once their stock is back up.

    Re: Z390 Build Finished 2018/11/21 13:22:22 (permalink)
Same here. Since I don't know what year, I am upgrading for the first time my good old rock stable 4.45Ghz x58 i7990x build to the Z390. My 2080Ti FE is finally completely bottlenecked by the old system.
I am torn between Asus Z390 Maximus Extreme and EVGA Z390 Dark. The maximus has worse VRM, but it is more likely to appear on my market before christmas than EVGA offering, unfortunately. I may just order one from US though when it becomes available. Not a fan of brands like MSI or Gigabyte.

    Nice overclock btw!

If you want a board to use now, you could always buy the FTW and then step up to the Dark. Depending on the Darks price, I may step up.
