I never thought I'd see the day that people were buying cards with waterblocks so they can remove them and downgrade the cooler. I guess desperate times call for desperate measures, but really building a custom loop is not that hard, and the performance is so much better. Sure it takes a bit of research, but the payoff is worth it.

I hear ya, it's killing me people are doing this lol.

I purchased the 3080 ftw3 hc this morning and bought the hybrid kit, but now I'm thinking of doing watercooling (I'll keep the kit anyways). I'm willing to put some research into it before I attempt to modify the card.

Do you have any recommendations regarding where to start with water cooling? Any good kits you recommend?

I would start by seeing what kind of radiator(s) you would want or need. It all depends on your case and what fans you will be using. Don't go with super thin radiators. The more surface area you have the better your cooling will be. But also make sure your fans will be pushing enough air for the thickness of the rad you choose. From there it's kind of personal preference and what will fit in your case. There are so many options for waterblocks, reservoirs, and fittings out there but most will work without issue. I haven't looked at any guides in many years and don't remember where I learned stuff from at this point, but I would read watercooling sections of other forums and ask questions. I would also recommend staying away from colored coolants. They will gunk up your parts and it's just much easier to clean and maintain if you use pure distilled water with additives only. I personally use mayhems biocide and corrosion inhibitor with distilled water only.

Thank you for your help! I'm currently on a Fractal design Meshify C case but I plan on buying a new case (building a new rig) for this. Some parts of my current setup up will be going in the living room media box because my Nvidia Shield died during the pandemic. For now I just plan on watercooling the GPU. I was looking at this kit but I'm not sure if it would work with this HC: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-classic-kit-p240-d-rgb-black-nickel-edition

I managed to buy the 3080 FTW3 HC this morning.

I'm now leaning towards a water cooling solution instead of desecrating the card with a hybrid cooler.

Would it be prudent/advisable to just do a loop with the GPU only? I currently have a 240mm AIO on the CPU I could then do a full loop down the road on the next full build?  The CPU AIO is top mounted.

So I could just front mount a radiator, and squeeze in a pump/resevoir and be up and running?

Nothing at all wrong with doing a custom loop for the GPU only. Like you said, once you change to a different CPU you can look at a block for it and expand your cooling loop then.

crazy i got beat by so many people that don't even want a custom loop. Just shows how desperate people are for cards that they will buy before they even know what they are getting into. I do think anyone can do a basic waterloop with a little research.

About 15 years ago I had a pump die on me and it scared me out of watercooling. But you're right, I'm kinda desperate, but it's actually exciting building a rig from this and maybe I can do it better now, plus I work from home mostly and have better resources than I used to.

This is a good move. They should add a kit for the Kingpin cards as well.

It's just a matter of time until my pump fails and I'd rather not have to risk theft/damage/loss sending my GPU back to the USA and waiting around for 1+ months with no GPU simply because of poor engineering @ Asetek. The cost of shipping insurance alone for the RMA would probably be more than the cost of a replacement 360mm Hybrid Kit shipped to my door.
