so since building my new system i was wondering what to do with my x58 classy board and all the spare parts i had laying around. so i did this, picked up a xeon W3680 6 core from ebay for cheap, modded my nzxt mid tower case to remove the 5.25 bays and HDD rack and used a extra HDD cage from my 750d. since my thermal take AIO finally died i dusted off my original evga superclock cooler and picked up a GTX 580SC from the marketplace, came out pretty good and works great considering it's age, the poor SSD is being severely held back by those sata 2 port though, but compared to the old rais 0 thath two WD black 750 drives its night and day
i have a hauppage capture & tuner card so now i will use it for doing video capture stuff and editing since those 6 core 12 threads were made just for doing such things. it is a bit loud with the air cooling and that space heater GPU but its bearable.

As long as it works, and you're happy with it. That's all that matters. I'm sure you wouldn't use it for a gaming rig though.     ;)

It was more of having the parts laying around and wondering what to do with them. Was using it today for some video encoding stuff and it hummed right along, the evga cooler kept it nice and cool, even under full avx load it never got over 55c

You could have tried to sell some of them. Like the 580. Probably wouldn't have got a whole lot for it. So a 2nd PC would make more sense.
