Howdy all! Decided to take a look-see at the EVGA forums, figured y'all would probably appreciate my current project: ^^^ More recent pic, I have the cooler (NH-D15S) and stock cables installed now but wasn't able to get any decent pics yet Tis a mostly EVGA/Noctua build centered around the awesome X58 Classified SLI 4-Way, will be running this X5675 as the CPU (I've had an X5670 at 4.74Ghz bench stable on this board, hoping to hit higher with my '75): And then the SLI GTX 780 Classifieds, here's another pic because they were looking pretty: Current parts list: CPU: Intel Xeon X5675 3.06Ghz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: EVGA 170-BL-E762-A1 XL ATX LGA1366 Motherboard Memory: 3x Kingston Savage 8 GB (1 x 8 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory Video Card: 2x EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3 GB Dual Classified ACX Video Card (2-Way SLI) Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA T2 1600 W 80+ Titanium Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Case Fan: 5x Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM 158.5 CFM 140 mm Fan Case Fan: 2x Noctua NF-A15 HS-PWM chromax.black.swap 82.52 CFM 140 mm Fan (actually the fans I'll be using on the cooler, not case) Custom: 2x EVGA PowerLink, Revolutionized Cable Management! 600-PL-2816-LR Custom: 2x FSLabs Graphics Card GPU Brace Support, Video Card Sag Holder Bracket, Anodized Aerospace Aluminum (Upgraded Version Black) Custom: Phanteks Universal Fan Controller, PH-PWHUB_02 - Low profile design Will try to keep that and this thread up to date as the project progresses

Thankyou! I see the PCPP list was removed so I assume that's an automatic feature of the forum software or not allowed, so I've edited that and pasted a modified plaintext version of the parts list And yes indeed, these old boards keep on kicking. I actually got this one brand new/unused off eBay (pretty awesome for a now 11 year old board), had to do the Westmere-EP mod but it kicks a lotta butt now. Still need to do that to my 3X (aka the EATX version of this) before I sell that to a friend. Excited to see what this board will do though, last I pushed it I had the CPU on water, but the D15 should swallow plenty of voltage so I'll likely be able to push the CPU just as hard. Hoping I haven't lost my touch though, X58 OCing is a balancing act and I've been out of it for the past year. They also look absolutely gorgeous, which is why I'm trying to do a build that's also aesthetically worthy of this board . Planning to get custom cables, swap all the fan corners over to black or red, and some other little things to make it as clean as possible.

The X58 motherboard was one of Intel's best in my opinion. Even after so many years it can still compete well against newer systems. I love older retro builds and yours is awesome.

Ooooooooooooooooo the translucent ones? Good lord those are gorgeous, I haven't seen many at all though, they seem to be as rare as they are pretty. Very envious lol. rjohnson11 The X58 motherboard was one of Intel's best in my opinion. Even after so many years it can still compete well against newer systems. It is one hell of a platform. Back before the spectre/meltdown nerfs a decent chip could almost match a stock R5 1600, really impressive considering the Ryzens are 6+ years newer (depending on what LGA1366 hexacore you're using). They're a bit slower now thanks to those nerfs, but can still game decently (some madlads on the LTT forums still run them at 1440p with a 1080 Ti, booting off NVMe SSDs too), and are still extremely frustrati - uhhhh I mean fun - to push . Satisfying is what I'd call them, it can take a lot of mucking around to find where your BLCK/multi combo runs best, but the end result is usually extremely satisfying. Given the high clock ceilings you can see a nice fat improvement, heck even Windows 10 runs snappier once you mess around with the uncore and RAM. Cool GTX Looking forward to your Updates ... especially once the Build is finished
Will hopefully have updates by this weekend! Planning to get it up and running on the stock PSU cables and such, will take measurements for custom cables and probably get those soonish, hopefully by next month at the latest. If I get stuck I can move to rebuilding my X79 rig lol, I stole the GPUs for this from that (it has a 1660 Ti in it now), needs the cable management redone - which will be easier because I also yoinked the T2 from that and replaced it with a G3, leaves a lot more room because that PSU is about half the size - and then I need to sort out some funky issues. Once that is done I can dive into tweaking that too, haven't ran X79 so far, but the UEFI and most of the options seem similar to my X99 boards.

Oho! How'd they perform? I've had these 780 Classies run 1333Mhz core for a bench run, but they haven't done it again. Vdroop hurts them (1.25v on the bottom card, but 1.2v on the top one), apparently there's softmods I can do to the BIOS and Afterburner to shove up to 1.35v with no droop through them, but I'll likely repaste/pad them before that. a213m X58 Classified was one of the best EVGA's board at its time.
I've seen from reviews that they were amazing, and my personal experience has been quite good (I have some beefs with the BIOS vs what my ASUS R3F had, but I like the hardware on this side better lol). Sadly I wasn't around when they were current, I would've been about 10, and not in the tech space at all. AFAIK the only board badder than this one is the SR-2 (I do have two of those, one only boots with one CPU, and the other is supposed to work - seller took the two quads in it to 4.6Ghz as a test before shipping it out - but has been funky for me, need to pull it out again and make sure there's no grounding issues or anything). That board is just even more of a horror trying to fit in cases lmao, cases that fit HPTX without needing mods aren't too common unless you can track down an older full tower. Still debating whether I want to do a rig around it, or pass it on to someone with the time/money to give it the love it deserves :(

I like clean functional retro builds myself. I did a similar build with a Rampage3 mobo and a x5670 . Just retired it a year ago. Xeons are the way to go with the X58 platform in my opinion.

Ooo noice! The first X58 rig I had was based around an X5675 and Rampage III Formula, beast of a board. When OCed, kept up with my 980 Ti much better than the i5 2400 I had before too. Back in September 2017: All just happened to color match lol, thankfully red/black components are rather common (if a bit overused at this point) As for the big X58 rig, haven't done anything more on that other than slapping in the cooler and stock T2 cables: Still need to find my 24-pin, it's around here somewhere... Also got my desk rig up and running: Pretty pretty X79 Dark CPU (4930K) is running a sloppy 4.5Ghz right now. I say sloppy because it's pulling up to 1.37v under load, which is much higher than it should need for this clock. But it's not overheating (64C max after 8 hours of AIDA64 with FPU stress off, IIRC it can hit up to the low 70s under P95 small FFT) and I just needed a quick OC that's stable, and fast enough to run Destiny 2 above 60fps. At stock it drops to the 50s in large patrol locations or Gambit, which causes tons of screen tearing/awful frametimes/general not-fun-to-play stuff.

Ooooooooo Rampages are awesome boards. I started with a Formula, good times . 5690s are epic as well, how's it treating ya? I use a '75 because I'm planning to just dump voltages into it and see how fast it goes, would feel bad doing that to a '90 Vlada011 Look excellent.
rjohnson11 Definitely excellent!
Thankyou! As for an update on the rig, haven't had a ton of motivation to work on it lately. But I do have a disc drive and some CDs to rip on the way, so that should provide the needed oomph to get the PC up and running. Also found the basic SSD I had lying around that I'll likely use till I have the budget for more upgrades, will hopefully have it running this weekend

Rig is up and running! Cable management is uh.... yeah the uh... the cables are in Everything is too long or too short . Will be fixed with custom cables eventually and some other stuff, but eh. It's running for now, nothing is in the way of airflow or the side panels going on, it works. Certainly an imposing case on my desk though, and damn the 750D is a really clean design. I'll get better pics eventually, still working on stability so far. Rise of the Tomb Raider runs like butter: Looks absolutely gorgeous still as well (all settings maxed except textures on medium and AA on the next thing up from FXAA, S-something): Best part is, perfect SLI scaling (99% usage both cards), stable frametimes and fps, AND DX-mofuggin-12 is actually working properly! I've found Rise and Shadow of the Tomb Raider are some of the few games where DX12 is actually implemented right, that + good SLI support brings great joy to my heart . Apparently Battlefield V is great with DX12/SLI as well, once I get a mass storage HDD in here I'll test that and BF1. Along with Battlefield 2015, which is another game that runs beautifully on mGPU setups. Sadly there just isn't much game in that game, but what is there is gorgeous. Still think it looks as good or better than the sequel, BF2 2017, in most places. BF2 has maps with more detailed environments though, but that game also hated SLI last I tried it, and DX12 is just oof. As for OCing, here's the current settings: Had it loop memtest86 overnight, so I'm sure RAM isn't the cause of my instability. Upped vCore and VTT to the values here this morning, hopefully when I get back home tonight, it'll still be running P95 Blend.

Awww RIP . I wouldn't really be able to use them though, I'm not planning to throw money into another loop anytime soon. Just sent my extra rads off to a friend anyways. That + these chips can't get too hot for a D15S to handle until you're pushing a good bit over 1.45v through them. Opolis Nice throwback build. X58 was when I really started to get into custom PCs. I remember the satisfaction getting my i7 920 up to 4.2Ghz. Still have my 780 Classified.
Hell yeah! X58 was before my time, but I've gone back and had a lot of fun with it. Need to boot this rig up and do some stuff again, also my X79 one, but upgrades to the main rig (GPU swap and I'll have a 6950X on the way soon) + events in Destiny 2 and life stuff suck up most of my time lately. But the 780s do indeed hold up damn well, the VRAM is the only thing to hold them back. Even in games that don't scale well with SLI I imagine they'll still provide a playable experience at 1080p, but I haven't tested much because this rig only has a 60GB drive right now blaise Got my 920 up to 4.2GHz and my 930 up to 4.3GHz on a MSI X58 Eclipse SLI. Scored my 930 whist working at PC shop and had a customer who insisted on a 920 in his build and all we could get was a 930... perks!
Y'all must've been lucky, IIRC my 920 struggled to get to around 4.0. Eventually sent it off to a friend to use for board testing, since I have an i7 950 if I need an OG chip for compatibility stuff. It currently sits in an X58 Classy SLI 3X, that I should probably offload sometime because I'm doing nothing with it. Victorcc1981 Nice build man, congrats! It does look damn nice, but be very sure to get the S-variant. D15S, not the D15. The S has the same heatsink, but offset slightly for better PCIe compatibility. This is also what lets it clear the massive northbridge heatsink on these boards. I don't have a standard D15 to compare, but clearances are super tight and I doubt it'd fit: Also I should have a Rebel T2i (supposed to be a very good starter DSLR) on the way soon as part of a trade + cash for my RVII, so hopefully I can get some not-iPhone pics of the rig soonish. Won't make up for my lack of skill but hey, nicer sensor + dealing better with the lower lighting in my apartment in the evening = win And here's a pic my (much more skilled) friend took with it, so there's defo a much higher ceiling for what I can do with it vs a phone:

Worthy board to replace it with though . Someday I'll hopefully get an X299 Dark, but we'll see. Getting a 6950X for the X99 Classy, may go for a 1680v2 for the X79 dark (right now they have a 5960X and 4930K respectively). I'd like to get X299 at some point but whoo boy it's still quite expensive when doing a full build from scratch.
5960X - X99 Classy - RVII - (TV Rig since 4K is actually an appropriate res for that GPU) 4930K - X79 Dark - 1660 Ti XC Ultra - (Desk Rig) X5675 - X58 Classy SLI 4-Way - SLI 780 Classies - (Current project)

4-way is a sick board, I should have grabbed one when I got my 2 SR-2s oh well. I check ebay every once in a while but I've only seen one so far.
