O.O FIXED?! well maybe, did another speed test and it increased my transfer speed by about 1 megabyte per second. pretty good!~ now maybe i can position my router better. about 1-2 5ft walls in between my router and my adapter.
 
*EDIT* hmm.. now my transfer speed according to windows is varying any where from 240mbps-300mbps.. signal strength from 44%-50%. understandable though since 5ghz travels less easily through walls.



1MB/s is still really slow.  2 rooms away on my DIR-655 and built in Intel WiFi on my HP laptop I get 6-10MB/s on 2.4Ghz with a 40Mhz channel width. Almost 12MB/s if i'm in the living room with the router.

aight man im back from school and so far it's gone up to 40% signal strength with 5GHz and 50ft. of space and ~10ft. of walls (the router and adapter are at about a 25% angle). the speed also is roughly 7-8 megabytes per second. I will try relocating the router now and do more tests. Then I will try tests in the same room as the router.

Right on, looking good. That's probably the best you can do with a wireless USB adapter without a direct line of sight to your router. Reason being is the small internal antenna, and the power output limitation set fourth by the USB 2.0 spec.

ok so i relocated the router so that the wall in between my computer and the router itself is minimized to roughly 3ft. the signal strength improved to 60% (+/- 5%) and the transfer speeds improved to ~10MB/s (roughly ethernet speed, not gigabit). I'm quite happy :) I will try 2.4GHz now...
 
BTW, since this is the only other 5GHz capable adapter out there that is not USB I am going to get it. Do you have any experiences or opinions on it?
