"Around 98% of affected systems were running Windows 7. Specifically, more than 60 percent of the computers that were compromised by WannaCry were running the 64-bit versions of Windows 7, while the 32-bit flavor of the operating system was the runner-up with nearly 32 percent.
Ironically, Windows 7 was supposed to be secure against WannaCry, as Microsoft shipped patches to block the infection in March this year, and since it’s still supported, this OS version received them as well."       Link

I'm glad I went to Windows 10. Looks like the security is better with 10.

That just tells me that people that target computers already know that Microsoft already stole your info and everything else on Windoes 10. LOL. On a serious note, that sounds like inductive reasoning to me. Just because more of those types of operating systems were infected doesnt necessarily mean that the security on 10 is any better. At least for now anyways before we are all forced to go to windows 10

No malware will be able to target absolutely everyone in a group using a less secure OS.

Or they were not up to date on security updates. Which is the most probable reason and why M$ shoves updates down Win 10 users throats.

Those Windows 7 users who were affected did not have updates installed, or had 3rd party up to date anti-virus installed.

plot twist, M$ releases the bug so more people will dump win 7 and switch to the more secure win 10. Would i be totally shocked? Nope

I'd still rather risk getting infected than go to Windows 10.

A Lot of folks still have the fear of being forced to upgrade to Windows 10 so they do not update anymore.

I personally don't understand the reason people don't get windows 10. 7 is more understandable, but do some research if you don't like the spying, which I disagree with Microsoft on the spying, and upgrade. Windows 8 and 8.1 users should upgrade too unless you have a touch screen and prefer that interface which there likely is a way to get that. I personally recommend windows 10 and if you don't want to be spied on there are ways around MS doing it but no matter what, the government does it all the time to users of ALL OS's.

Some programs do not work with win10
Win10 got rid of MCE which I use often. So three of my systems will be on win7 for many years to come.
I have win10 or Linux Ubuntu on a couple boxes.
I try not to click on links people send me!!!

I bet part of it is the huge user base of pirated copies of Windows 7. That really is probably a big part of the infected user base that isn't to say legal copies were immune.

To update or not to update: that is the question. Updates in Win10 haven't been too bad but they just take forever to apply when you restart your PC.

Besides not having the media center that was in 7 i like 10, its pretty speedy and works great wit nvme boot drives out of the box. I also have far less crashes. Those worrying about the spying stuff just turn it off, while you are at it turn off you phones, tablets, smart tv etc... They all do the same type of stuff. Oh and never use a credit card or order online either.
