At first I thought they couldn't be stopped, but I finally put a stop to that.

Because the Current Push is 1809.
I have One 1803 (April 2018) and the rest are 1709 and they are not being forces or asked to upgrade to 1803

Re: Windows 10 1803 windows updates 2018/10/29 19:25:48 (permalink)
My topic is more about updates being automatically installed on 1803. In version 1607 disabling the windows update service in services.msc & deleting the windows update tasks inside the task scheduler stopped windows from being updated at all. On 1803 that no longer worked for me. I had to resort to other measures to completely stop the windows update service from being ran. Now it doesn't run at all, even when windows tries to force it to run.

You are still on Version 1607, No wonder you are not see the real issues users are now having.
Bummer it is working fine for me.
I hope you get yours fixed.

I'm on 1803. IMO, it is fixed as I don't want windows forcing updates on me.

Oh, now I am really in the Dark.
I thought that was what this Thread was for Windows Updates successes and/or problems thread
wushowhide.diagcab & MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab still work with 1803

You could have just enabled the Metered Connection without turning off a few services. Works like a charm. I set that up for a customer where interruptions couldn't happen.

Yeah, that was one option. I decided to delete the .dll files for windows update. No longer runs now.

Could you please be a little more specific, exactly what .dll and where are they?
I may like win 10 if I could kill the darn updates once and for all.
You can PM me if you do not want to post them here.
Thanks

Do a search on your c:\ drive for wuaueng.dll, and delete all the files the search finds. I think it was like 6 to 8 files that will need to be deleted. You will also need to install take ownership to take ownership of the files before you can delete them.

Make sure you guys delete the MusNotifyIcon.exe too as it will still pop up from time to time on the system tray.

At first I thought they couldn't be stopped, but I finally put a stop to that.

The struggle is real, you can't even stop them on enterprise versions (unless you switch to a WSUS).

Why doesn't Microsoft understand we're ok with security patches but "Feature Updates" are a complete reinstall (a new version of Windows).

Yup, Microsoft always breaks something with updates.  Heck they break things with clean installs.

I wonder if my little workaround works on enterprise versions. I bet it will.

I've noticed that the windows event viewer logs failed run attempts of the windows update service after deleting the .dll file. To stop the flooding of the windows event viewer with failed runs attempts simply type the following into a command prompt with admin rights...

sc delete wuauserv
