I mean like okay, most of us use video cards for gaming and usually when you're gaming you're in the zone pwning noobs left and right. Plus, most people either have some speakers with at least 2.1 or some nice kickin' headphones. Why is it that people are picky about the noise? I remember when I used to keep my Zalman CNPS 9700 on full blast to keep my 4.0ghz AMD cpu cool it used to sound like a tornado but while gaming I never noticed it. I'm not trying to bash anyone, i'm just curious is all

this is somethng i dont understand either.
When i built my Core 2quad QX6600 GT8400 rig, those fans were loud as hell, and I LOVED hearing that thing boot up and hearing those fans roar out IM ALIVE MOFO, FEAR MY POWER.
On my alienhybrid i could hear the fans rev up and it was BAWS to hear them do so.
pure awesome, reminds me of reving muscle cars.

Well, in the studio, I need quiet fans so my mics don't pick them up and on my main rig, I don't want my wife sitting in the other room to know how often I am on it.

i can tolerate upto some level of noise(most fans and cooling solutions have sounds that are tolerable) ...nobody want to sound their rigs like a generator after powering them...but most guyz play and crank the vol up or will have headphones so they wont hear the fan sounds
after all...a quiet pc is good...both during gaming or non gaming sessions...

Because im older now and I prefer hearing other things other then a screaming banshee of a PC while I surf the web like listen to the birds outside my window or my cut purring in my lap

Most people will eventually get headaches from the noise levels and is annoying to others. Headsets for the user is a cure though.

What fans are you running now? I have the same case that you do and would like to replace all of my 120mm fans with quieter ones.

I didn't mind it when I was younger but these days, I prefer a quieter rig. I don't know why. Just a preference. Probably because I am around servers most of the day that sound like a jet plane taking off.

jk but seriously there's a lot more to do on computers than play video games, and not everyone wants to listen to music the whole time either.
I'm considering a passive system next time, but for sure my next HTPC will be 100% passive. :)

x2 At work I have no option, the server rooms are loud whether I want them to be or not. It was cool for a while, but it gets old. Especially since there are ways to get even better cooling with less noise it seems kind of silly to have it loud when it doesn't need to be.

PAPST TYP 6424 /2H 24V -- DC 1.1A 26W ( 12-28V -- DC ) this thing is 150mm from flat to flat and the other little fan to the right is a 140mm from a p/s. i have 6 of them PAPST fans running so i like it loud and cool

Server room noise sux it's like having a monkey on your back that you can't get rid of. At home I don't care because of my headphones or the 5.1. But I think these 680's are pretty loud.

I have heard noctuas are quite and really good.
Actually, Noctua's tend to be quiet, not the most whisper quiet out there, but definitly nice. Also, they have good static pressure, so they do well for ventilation and up to high FPI radiators. Good all around item.

I have sensitive ears. But, My EVGA 480...Is shooting out 70+ decibels so it annoys me when it is louder than the game...

I think also because we in general tend to think of mechanical noise on equipment as inferior. If you test drive a car and it had lots of road noise, that would usually be a bad thing. If there were 2 refrigerators side by side that looked the same, I would think that the quieter one would last longer. Nice and quiet seems like things are better put together, more efficient and like the old adage says, out of sight, out of mind. If I hear a fan all the time, I have to worry about when I don't hear it, thinking something may be wrong. Sometimes knowing nothing is better than knowing at all.

computers are in my blood, so the noise doesn't bother me at all, got 2 systems running 24/7 in my bedroom and I can sleep over them as well.

I have heard some rather loud fans but it's the tiny ones spinning at 4000+rpm that drive me nuts. Honestly, my Xbox 360 is louder than my PC when gaming, lol.

Come hear my 64 DBA CPU fan, and see how much you can tolerate it! Or go turn on a hair dryer on a medium setting, that should be roughly the same I think. But like you said, I do use circumaural headphones when gaming so it isn't a problem then.

Holy mother of loud fans. I wouldn't be able to stand that, Id had to get new fans. Fans don't really bother me, I still use the stock cooler master fans in my 932 and they are really quiet but then again they only run like 600 RPM. My 3 noiseblockers running at 1400 rpm cause most the noise in my fan.

Had a zalman 9700 back in the day and then went to water. Won't go back for an enthusiest rig. Mine is so quiet and the only thing I really hear is the video fan winding up.

I don't really notice mine until I can't hear them and boy the room is eerily quiet LOL
I prefer cooler to quieter and am still not ready to embrace water as it seems too pricey when the alternative is just a little fan noise ;)

I'm not bothered by fan noise. I get bothered by a lack of fan noise cause I can't tell if the fan's failed or is working normally.
