Where does this thing belong? X299 or H/Z series?

So, this just showed up on Kinpin's Instagram....

Clearly see the 24 pin and two 8 pin EPS coming in from the side (don't recall seeing that anywhere before) along with the USB front panel header, it also looks like it's got cutouts much like the Dark for trimming down the EATX where possible and it lookslike in the background it may even have a matt outlining the board mush the way the X299 Dark comes with that test bed/template under belly with standoffs...

I have much want for more info..

I am leaning towards a Z390 Dark (sort of basd on where we are in the launch/product cycle) which would be an instant buy for me.  But this could also be a new X299 iteration.  Feel free to share speculation....

I think Z390 with a slow mode, for high frequency boots !!!!! not worth it on X299.

I would say that E logo on the power button identifies it as an EVGA motherboard, but no idea what series it is/will be.

    Z390, probably high end.
    Very interesting.
Perfect for mine grommets... i don't need to open upper holes.

Well, there are not that many options.
Either a Z390 Dark or a X299 Dark Rev. 2 for the upcoming Skylake-X Refresh.

LOL, Are you trolling me?  C'mon, based on that picture and who is posting it alone, this is obviously an EVGA motherboard, or maybe Kingpin is working with SUPERMICRO now on their high end AMD OC boad.

Since my initial post, both EVGA and Jacob have commented and Jacob added a second picture (essentially) confirming that it is the Z390 Dark.

Judging by this picture, it will not be a Z390 motherboard. I see only two memory slots, which means the other two memory slots are on the other side of the CPU, so this will be a HEDT motherboard. Intel is coming out with the X599 chipset soon.

EDIT: However rumors are the X599 is suppose to be 6 channel memory, so four memory slots wouldn't work for that.

You see, EVGA cut peace of PCB for angled 24pin.
That's direct answer on customers demands who had problems to install 24pin connectors on some cases.
My case at the moment is perfect for angled 24pin and these 2x8 CPU connectors.
How Z390 with only 2 DIMM slots.

Maybe this is revision of motherboard for new Intel Basin Falls, now in October.
    October is Intel's month.

It doesn't need to be a HEDT board, the Z370 Maximus Apex does only have 2 Dimms aswell.
Maybe a Z390 Dark for better Memory Overclocking

This will probably be the x299 Dark 2/Too since there has only been one release of CPU’s for the x299 platform. Intel would be seriously shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t do a second release for x299.

Kingpin hasn’t been design “consumer” parts, which the z390 would be. He usually focuses on the HEDT. If he starts focusing on the consumer market, it could be pretty interesting, but since he goes for extreme versus consumer, I still expect this to be the extreme board.

?  On enthusiast OC'er specific boards they use one dimm per channel, hence the quad channel 4 DIMM slot X299Dark, Asus Rampage VI Apex, Asus Maximus X Apex, etc.  This cuts down on trace lenth and improves memory overclocking.  &X599 is indeed supposed to be 6 channel memory.

What I would like everyones opinion on is are these two pics from the same board?  If they are, I simply can't wrap my head around the layout based on the two pics and what they show, in one the Dimm Slots, board edge and CPU Socket are all simultaneously visible.  In the other, we see cable conection spots but nothing that matches where the DIMM's are or any of the items shown along the edge.  I can't seem to put those two pics on the same motherboard.

I may be going insane but don't memory slots usually go parallel to the 24 pin socket to the right of the CPU? This appears that the memory slots are either on top of the board of the 24 pin is on bottom. Either way it's unusual I think

I’m thinking Ram across the top, cpu spun 90 degrees, io in normal spot, vrm lives in the area between socket and io as well as in the area between cpu and pcie slot. My other bet is that this board has its top pcie slot shifted down at least one.

But why is there two 8 pins right next to the 24 pin? Consumer socket should need that much juice lol.

I know evga loves putting massive power to everything cpu wise, but T|n and K|ngp|n designing a consumer socket motherboard is going to make it something people really want.

It looks like he is changing the entire layout of the board to be unique and functional.

Its a Dark for extreme overclocking, I assume they'll exceed a single 8 pin under ln2.
I love the 8 pin location, this needs to become a norm for all manufacturers, so much easier to deal with when everything is installed (memory not so much).
The memory may be moved because of the relocate 8 pins, maybe also to keep the width do an ATX form factor?

Doesnt appear to be a stinger with an nvidia SLI logo...

I like the wonky layout. Pretty cool. Just sucks about the 2 DIMM slots. Now, I'll have to get a new RAM kit if I buy this board.

If you need more than 32GB of DRAM, you should be looking at X299 anyway ;)

Well the Intel keynote officially announcing the 9900K says it should be available for pre-order today and shipping Oct 19.  I wonder when we can learn about the z390 mobos.  They also mention some new X-series being launched in November... I wonder if there will be something there to unseat the 7980xe

Anandtech has a roundup of the boards launched - https://www.anandtech.com/show/13407/intel-z390-motherboard-overview-every-motherboard-analyzed

As for the X299 refresh, pretty compelling actually.  The entire stack gets solder and a full fat 44 pcie lanes.  The lineup starts at 8C/16T and goes all the way up to the 9980XE to replace the 7980XE.  more on it here - https://www.anandtech.com/show/13402/intel-basin-falls-refresh-core-i9-9980xe

What is interesting is that with the low end pricing on the HEDT stuff and the high launch price of the 9900 and Z390 boards, you may have a tought time deciding between an 8C/16T HEDT part (launch @$589) and a Dark X299 motherboard (curently $349) and a 9900k launching at over $500 due to demand and a Z390 board (price TBD).  There is also two different 10C/20T parts based on which die they are using.
