Yo dudes, I'm in a pickle and could use some help making a decision.

I am currently building my dream set-up, the set-up I wanted when I was a kid and my rents didn't have the money for me to complete. I made due with what I had and was always grateful scrapping parts together, however, now that I'm a grown-a**-man and can buy what I want...

I am stuck making a choice between:
1. Classy 1080 (w/ already dated acx cooler)
2. FTW2 1080 (new cooler but not as powerful as above)
3. Founders edition 1080 (fan style would allow me to do SLI down the road, with my case [s340 elite])
4. Wait for whatever comes out this week from Nvidia and pray that it's under ~800/900

I would love to hear some input from you guys, I've been out of the game for a few years (more like a decade) and could use some drops of knowledge. Thanks in advance.

I would wait if I were you. Also, the 1080 Classified is not more powerful than the FTW2. It is the same chip. All Pascal 1080 max out near 2100MHz. It is just the luck of the draw if you can get a higher frequency chip.

I would at least wait another week & see if the 1080 TI gets announced ,.. it might make some other prices go down a tad

Not sure if I understand your argument about being able to do Sli with the founders edition? Either way, just wait until Tuesday to get yet another option to add to your list of possible graphics cards.

I would agree with waiting for next week and see what the 1080 ti is going for and when it will be released.
Other than that, I would suggest the 1080 FTW2.

FE cards have blower type fans thus exhausting hot VGA air directly outside the case. This prevents excess heat leaking into the case and up from bottom card directly into the fans of the top card in SLI configuration.

First and foremost, gou boost 3.0 overcloxks the ftw to the same apeed as the classified.. it also does this with the lower clocked cards. Wait until next week and buy an SC model of the new cards that are launched.

Basically. Both the 1080 Ti and Vega are coming out. NVIDIA can't charge silly prices on the 1080 Ti if Vega is reasonably good, so regardless of what happens 1080's have multiple reasons to get cheaper.

I am kinda in the same boat and choosing to wait. Now, I likely won't buy a Vega, but I would like to see what both camps offer. I think I will end up buying a 1080ti Hydro Copper (the yet to be announced 1080ti Hydro Copper )

Being that you have only a couple post counts, I just dont have a clue on how much you keep track of the latest news.. But my advice is to wait a few days because Nvidia is about to announce what appears to be a new video card..  They have a countdown timer on their website with a clue on what it is.. Below the timer it reads "IT'S ALMOST TIME" with the TI in time is bold...  That to me suggests 1080 TI..

You are taking a big loss on that. iCX new is $630? How much do you think you get out of eBay? $550? $600? After fees and shipping you are down to $450-$500, and the $100 that you paid for the upgrade. It would be better to just sell the ACX SC now. You won't recover the $100 iCX upgrade via eBay, shrink wrapped or not.

yeah, not looking to recoup all the way.

i was planning on using the icx, but after seeing that ti countdown i decided is time to sell it while it has some value.

icx upgrade already payed for, approved and card already sent to evga. so too late for regrets.

I am also debating what to get but in my case, I also need to sell my two 980s. Prices on the ACX 3.0 1080s are going down from what I have seen and plenty of people are selling used ones on ebay. Now, it's the older version due to new icx models. The 1080 TI is coming out but it will be tough to get for a while due to the old supply and demand. Will you get 1080p, 1440p, or 4k?

Ebay has really gotten bad over the last couple of years.  The fees on anything electronic are sky-high and even the lowest cost shipping methods have also risen dramatically.  Between Ebay fees and Paypal fees, you'll be lucky if you get close to breaking even.  Using the Ebay shipping calculator can also cost you money.  It drastically under-estimates shipping costs so you get a real shock when you go to whichever carrier you use.

I'm going to submit this option.

Invest in better TV or Audio that may be unrelated to computers or games.  There aren't any games coming out that are worthy of a card that pricey.  At least nothing coming out that I've seen.  (I assume Nvidia will up the price, like usual.)

If you must get a card let it be a 980ti or something and wait longer.  It should be a crime that Titan Pascal is around $1,200.00 or any of the newer cards are over $500.00.

Thanks all, I had picked up the FE Gigabyte 1080Ti on release day from Microcenter (its all they had!) but it did not feel right. Today I got word that my local Microcenter had an EVGA in stock and went in to exchange, I can now sleep a little better.
