I tend to pay for something that I like and will last...the cost you're willing to spend is a necessary component for suggestion...did I miss it? Although this is the latest watch I've purchased: http://www.seikousa.com/p...premier/bigdate_c.html As for "archaic fashion statement" I'd say it's more of a "I personally like it, and am used to wearing and using a watch". I don't like taking my phone out all the time to check the time..easier to glance at a watch.

T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

Yea and I feel the same way when people are flashing and staring at there ridiculous watch on there arm, or twisting flopping there arm around like they are having some kind of seizure to get the watch in that correct position to look at and bling bling it.

DMIINC I am not in public looking at my phone all the time. However since it has clock on it why not use it. That is kind of what I was getting at an comparing but I guess some people took offense to my last statement. I actually hardly ever have to look at my phone for the time. Honestly there are so many devices around us daily to tell time. If I do it takes two maybe three seconds to look at my phone I don't see how paying money for a watch makes any sense other than fashion these days. Maybe you can look at your watch a second faster, is that really going to save your day.

I can understand the whole cell phone thing but cell phones have become a fashion statement as well. People always want the newest and latest tech. My screen is larger and has higher res. I can bomb Tokyo with the touch of a button. My phone transforms into a hovercraft. I can reflect sunlight off my cell phone screen to cook a steak. Now that's something that has gotten out of hand!
Yes I understand. However do I need two devices to tell me the time?
I don't use my phone to tell the time. Believe it or not I just use it to make calls and sometimes a text message. I don't have a touch screen, data plan, etc. I'm showing my age but I really dislike what cell phones have done to our society. Look around in public and all you see are people playing with their damn phones.
Or there computers on Tech forums right... whats the difference. Phones are basically a pc these days.
My PC is at my desk in my home. The difference is that people that are out in public are oblivious to the world around them because they are all into whatever the hell they have going on their phones.
I am not in public looking at my phone all the time. However since it has clock on it why not use it.
Oh my lord Jesus.........I know people use their phones in private. I'm talking about when they use them in public which is ok to an extent but it seems many young people never lift their damn heads up. But I digress....(turns and walks away shaking fist to the sky) On a side note, I guess a watch works for me in part due to my job. I am often in court where taking out a cell phone can land you in the judge's chambers. Also a nice watch looks great with a good suite. And honestly I never flash my watch. I bought it because I like it.

There is also the underlying problem of cell phones having pretty terrible batteries. How can you tell time with it if you forgot to charge it and now it is dead? Watches are just much more convenient (for telling time anyway).

No one can tell it's cheap and if you are like me I change watches every couple of days - if it craps out - who cares add another one.... ****EDIT ****I found another great site for watches ..... these are little more high quality with "names" that the lemmings all like and then some with lesser known names that are great looking time pieces...all in one great place..... http://www.watchismo.com/

I really Love SEIKO watches. I got my first for my High School graduation over 20 years ago, and its still going strong. The better ones, like a high end Seiko Arctura with a see thru back and sapphire crystal face are super nice. An excellent one can be had for around $700. But there are some way more than that. A plain Seiko kinetic can be had for less than 200 and is still a rock solid piece. Newegg frequently has good deals on them. However, if you want nicer timepieces, id go for a tag or Omega. Prefer Omega as I like a massive face on my watches. Around $2,000 for a good example of one of these. Just my opinion. Good watches can be had for realatively little money. You dont have to spend in the thousands.

franbunnyffxii who uses a watch anymore...
This was exactly my thought until a few years back, wife bought me a Breil Milano for my birthday. Seemed a strange gift at the time, as I really thought I had no use for a watch, but...holy crap, it turns out they are very handy. Aside from changing a look a little, it's also so much easier to quickly glance down at, not to mention less ungainly - especially when walking - than pulling the phone out. So it's really extremely handy keeping on a schedule when moving about. Constantly pulling out the phone to check the time tends to come off as rude in meetings, tricky to do when walking without pausing, very difficult if you are carrying anything (coffee + notebook = how do you pull the phone out of your pocket), etc. But a glance at a watch is quick, convenient, always trivially easy to do... I mean, seriously, from a gift I thought had to rank up there as one of the most ridiculous cost:value ratios ever, its turned out to be one of the most important things I make sure to always have. (EDIT: And, of course, most "good" watches are waterproof to a few dozen feet or more of pressure. So taking a shower or going swimming with the watch is perfectly possible. Cell phones tend to not like that kind of thing... Did I mention it rains a lot in Portland?)

The cheapest one I just seen online was $60, most of them were 2-300. I know that is no rolex but anything over $10-20 for a watch is mind boggling.

Well, this thread has gotten out of hand... You can tell who's super reliant on those phones. I don't know about osme of you but I don't keep the phone tethered to my person at all times. I don't care if someone is calling me unless I'm expecting a call. I don't keep it with me 24/7. i'll forget about it in the car...ON PURPOSE, because I don't care. It's a phone, and some folks just can't live without being on them or near them all day all the time. Unless your using it for work, you don't need to have your face buried in it :P

Unless your using it for work, you don't need to have your face buried in it :P I totally agree with you. I just don't understand the point of a watch these days is all. Anyone who wears a watch these days is doing it for fashion because they think it makes them look fancy or something. There is absolutely no need for a watch. Why do you think some watches cost an arm and a leg. What really makes that watch better than the one that has worked for 15 years that is sitting in my junk drawer and cost $15. It may sound like I am against ones personal fashion opinion... but I am not. I just see so many people trying extra hard to show off there watch. Or act like they need a fancy watch, then you see them never use it and always using there phone still, haha and have there sleeve pulled up on the arm with the watch. If you think watches are cool fine, but honestly they are not needed if you carry a phone, drive a car, or are around a computer or an office building that has clocks all over the place, banks and temperature sings display the time. That is all I have been trying to get at. People saying yea but it takes to long to look at your phone REALLY? It's obvious who really needs a watch to be used as a watch like construction workers who do not want or need there phone on them to get damaged... yea that makes sense but you don't see them buying $500 watches haha. They buy $10-20 timex watches.
