When I first put my system together, I started having issues with my system randomly freezing. There was no warning....no indication of what I was doing. I could be in a graphically intensive game, or just watching Youtube. Often times, when the system froze, it would remain that way, and would force me to do a hard shutdown. Sometimes, the system would reboot on its own. And often times, when the system would come back on, the keyboard wouldn't work. I would have to unplug the keyboard from the back and plug it back in, then it would work. I tried several things [with the help of several on this board], tested with different memory sticks, and even RMA'ed the motherboard [which seemed like it was the cause of all of this]. New board did the same thing. The people helping did an amazing job trying to help me figure it out......but I had left out what ended up being a very critical piece of evidence that I had no idea WAS critical. I was using a vertical GPU mount. I began to wonder if it were the issue, so I removed it and put the GPU straight into the motherboard. I've not had an issue since. I cannot believe the issues I had before were caused by a vertical GPU mount,....and more specifically the cabling used with it. However, I do like the idea of a vertical mount and was wanting to know, if I chose to use one again, which cable would actually work with the system I have?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep that one in mind. I'd like to see a variety of options. Thanks guys!

You want a quality cable that locks into both ends Most Cables & Vertical mounts seem to use non-standard hole locations ... by brand ... no idea why there is not a standard for the mounting holes on the GPU end? (this issue I've seen several times, when I want to attach the GPU end of the cable to the Vertical GPU mount) Bad "Riser Cable" can happen & they can fail - especially if you kink it. - So keep all changes in direction as smooth curves Nice to keep a spare & buy from a company or Seller with good customer support & warranty

It’s also good to see if the motherboard company offerers a vertical mount cable. A good brand name case built for vertical mounting is the best way to do it I feel.

im using the one that comes with the DG 77 evga case, so far so good, around 1 year with it and my evga 3060 and no problems, it works with 4.0 pci cards, not sure if it is 5.0 compatible... but it's a solid option!

As a side note,....has there been anyone testing to see if there is any temperature change between a vertical mount and one straight into the motherboard? I wonder...because one whole side of my GPU if up against the motherboard.

Seems good airflow out both sides of the GPU & the end opposite where the video ports are... on my 3080Ti FTW3 Mounted to the MB directly VS Rise cable mounted ... I am not seeing any huge difference in temps & I run the GPU fans around 90% @ 60C Mounting direction & temps - seems to be more about case & airflow than one being better than the other .... if you do not get the heat out of the case - it does not matter which way you mount Setting Voltage limit to 95% - seems to make a big drop it GPU temp & performance does not seem to be impacted - as the cool Temp = the same or better MHz

I don't really have much problem with temps for my GPU. If I'm running highest graphics settings, I can see 74c at the highest. Just wondering, really. I'm fine keeping it plugged straight into the board. Also, my case has a lot of airflow. I have 6 fans bringing air in from the bottom and side, and 4 fans evacuating the air [3 at the top, 1 in the back].
