What is the maximum refresh rate a single 1080 Ti FTW3 can support? 120Hz? 240Hz? I'm thinking the threshold is 120Hz. I heard a single 3090 RTX can support between 240Hz and 340Hz.

Sajin, I noticed that I can overclock my Samsung G9 49" up to 240Hz. However, in the NVIDIA control panel I only see 120Hz at 5120x1400 There is no 240Hz option. I also noticed that certain games only support up to 120Hz like COD 4 Black Ops. Even with the 240Hz enabled on the monitor directly. Is it safe to say some game titles don't support 240Hz? Am I missing something here?

Maybe you need setup your monitor set to 240Hz inside monitor setting and then open Nvidia control panel to set 240hz in Change Resolution? Have look?
I have my Acer Predator Z35 Curved which default at 144Hz so I have change to up 200Hz so 160Hz is recommend to keep cooler graphic card on heavy games e.g GTA5 V etc....

That is what I exactly did. I setup @ 240Hz inside the monitor settings. But I only see 120Hz options in the NVIDIA control panel and Windows settings. Here's a couple of real time screenshots. I switched DisplayPort cables recently. I'm using a premium grade iVanky DisplayPort cable v1.4 The support page says it can support 2K 240Hz Yet I don't see that in Windows directly. https://www.amazon.com/iVANKY-DisplayPort-Braided-32-4Gbps-Support/dp/B08F59V3J2 I am running in 1080 Ti FTW3 SLI configuration.

Yes, I downloaded and installed the latest firmware and drivers from Samsung for the Odyssey G9. I have a Samsung home service call next week. They will test out my setup for both the 120Hz and 240Hz. If there's something else you can think of. Let the forum know mate.

What I am thinking when you have bought new Samsung Monitor so do you have the cable DisplayPort cable come out from the box? You could try this and test out the refresh rate?

Re: What is the maximum refresh rate a 1080 Ti FTW3 can support? 2020/10/27 11:18:32 (permalink)
    Wouldn't it be resolution specific? Like, 2K isn't actually 5120x1400, it's 2560x1440.

Just my 2C, since my 1080Ti did 2560x1440 just fine at 165Hz.

Here's a handy calculator for bandwidth that you can compare to your DP output / input: https://k.kramerav.com/support/bwcalculator.asp

Typing in your 5120x1440 resolution at 240 Hz custom refresh rate, you'll notice that DP 1.4 (what the 1080 Ti has) can't keep up since it's rated at 32.4Gbps.

I see Arestavo beat me to the punch. That a refresh rate exists at 1080p does not mean that same refresh rate is available at a higher resolution. I'm not sure what all this 'I have heard' stuff is when the facts regarding the output capability of the GPU models are listed on the product page and Nvidia's own information on their site is quite extensive. I mean, the OP is on the internet yet doesn't use the massive resources available.

I should toss it out there that even the 3080/3090 only have displayport version 1.4 since displayport 2.0 still isn't out yet. I doubt there are any monitors out there that even claim to support DP 2.0 yet either, and that amount of bandwidth would be required for 5120x1440 240 Hz even at 8 bit since DP 1.4 cannot handle it.

Edit: Google-fu has found something called "display stream compression" (DSC) that the Nvidia 20/30 series might have available, which might be the ticket to get 240Hz at 5120x1440. You might want to look into that, and think about the 30 series if that refresh rate is wanted.

    240.

    Even at 5120x1400?

    Nope. 1080p.

Update: I reverted back to using my stock Samsung DisplayPort cable "Which still did not make any difference. I was only able to get 240Hz enabled at 3840 x 1080 on my 1080 Ti FTW3 in Windows. I also came across the Samsung online community thread. Here's what their all talking about.

    Re: 2020 Odyssey G9 G-sync not working at 240Hz

    Thursday

Boys and girls...after losing a full day over this and almost returning the monitor...I found a post somewhere that fixed my issue.
Nvidia released two days ago a hot fix for this specific issue.

Just install the 456.98 Hotfix and bam..240hz

On the Swedish Samsung-page for the Odyssey G9 it has a note saying that in order for 240 Hz G-sync to work you need a graphics card that will be released soon (which probably means nVidia RTX 3080 or similar). Until then the recommended setting is 5120x1440 @ 120 Hz for G-sync to work.

You can probably use google translate:

The issue is DSC.  2000 series and 3000 series cards are the only ones that can do 240hz @ 5120x1400

3000 series currently has a bug where its not working.

    I have g9 and 3090.

Does anyone know why I can't set 240Hz without G-Sync 5120x1440 on Titan V through DP?
Card does not support this refresh rate?

only nvidia 20 series can suppot 5120x1440@240hz, because 10 series not have Display Stream Compression (DSC)

i have already report the gsync issue to nvidia support team, we need to wait the team to fix this issue, if you want to use 240hz with g-sync, you can change it to 3840x1080@240hz in the game, or use 5120x1440@240hz with fast sync.
