It's nice to have a member that will be helping our cause.  I'll be gearing up the other two systems for the prime grid challenge but right now my main computer is folding for the March Madness Event.  Feel free to poke around.

And don't feel shy about asking questions!  It's a team, one of us will have an answer for you!

Welcome and we are happy to help!

This is going to be something easy most likely as Crunching is... Well very easy in comparison to folding for new users...

Would you be kind enough to tell us what your settings and preferences are set at please? Here is a pic of the settings I am asking about... If suspended, 100% allowed ect...

I have a tip for you as well... I found it best to only do either  GPU tasks for Prime or for GPUGrid... Trying to do both on the same computer did not work out well...

Welcome to the team!
What does it say in the "event log"?
I also just had a look on the project pages, and both projects are rather low on tasks to send out.
So you prolly just joined at the wrong time.

For gpu grid you might also check that you´re allowing the gpu to crunch. I might be wrong, but iirc its set to not allow the gpu by default. Sorry, I´m using a germany boinc manager, so can´t tell how its called in English, but if you´re in advanced view (or whatever its called), you can find it in the drop down menus there at the top

edit: going by ABs screeny above
you´ll find the event log  under advanced,
and the setting for gpus under activity

Just dropping in to say "Welcome" to all the new crunchers!  I've been absent from this thread for a while and thought of it when I noticed some new names helping us out with Primegrid (and hopefully the Pentathlon too!).

Hi guys! I joined up. Turns out I've had a account since 7/16/10 but not sure I finished the setup or install back then.
Think I have everything setup correct, guess we will know something in a few days.
Only have my 980x setup at the moment, plus told it to use GPU's,
but I don't think its using the GPU's yet.
I'm going to do one last reboot and let er rip!

Don't have a clue what I'm looking at here. CPU is set and working at 100%.
The 2x480 still look to be idle, so I guess there is no work being done on those.

Yeah, WCG doesn't have GPU tasks at the moment. Either let 'em sit idle or add another project like GPUGrid. There is a stickied thread of all GPU projects. Welcome to crunching@evga!

Thanks looks like I got that working on the GPU's only thing is i see 4 projects for the GPU.
Is this normal for it to work 2x project for each video card installed?

Welcome Wolf! We'll talk about your initiation ceremony later.

Go to the home page of the project you're crunching and look for something like this. Click the teams link.

Do a search for "Crunching @ EVGA" and you should be offered a "join this team" option.

That doesn't seem to work at the GpuGrid web site.
It has a link by were it says Team: none but clicking it typing in the name returns nothing.
No matter what you type it still returns nothing and you also can't pick were your from, Like say USA.
I just removed GPUGrid until I can figure this out, no since in the points going no where but under my name.

That's just what I did 3 times already and still no way to pick what team you want to work with.
This is what I end up with, no team under team name, no way at my accout to correct this.

Hi Wolf, this may be an issue with the GPUGrid project website.

Interesting that it may be  a problem with the GPUGrid site.
I was using Collatz as my example because that's the only GPU project I'm running at the moment. And on that topic, I got 600k points today running a few mid range gpu;s for 15-18 hours. Wassup with that project anyhoo? I'd love to know what a 680 or 780 could pull down in 24 hours crunching a mix of Mini Collatz and Solo Collatz units. Any testers out there?

PrimeGrid set up and worked perfect with team join and all so its just there site so far that I've had problems with.
Is Collatz better for GPU folding with this cruching stuff?
Still having a few problems getting around and understanding the points system or were to look to see how I'm doing. lol

Edit: BTW is there some way for other team members to send a invite to join the team with different projects???
Someone sent me a PM with a invitie to join there team "wasn't 1 of you guys" I didn't accept.
But that might be a way to get around the problem for now??...

Hey your on the stats sheet @ Free-DC!
http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=team&proj=pgrid&team=2511
I'll look into the invite deal tomorrow.

Collatz and PrimeGrid are math projects, and offer gpu work. GpuGrid is medical so if that's where your heart is, we'll get you going there soon.

Re:Welcome all new members to Crunching@EVGA! *Please report in* 2014/01/31 13:41:07 (permalink)
Well now, I can't believe I over looked this thread. Most of you know who I am by now and what my goals are for concerning Distributed Computing. But I will explain it all again just because I like talking about it. Just ask my friends and family. I honestly think they groan when I walk into a room during a family get together since DC is one of my favorite subjects.

First off why am I involved with doing DC projects? Simple, call it self interest if you will. My fathers side of the family are prone to Alzheimer's and heart conditions. My mothers side is prone to Cancer and heart conditions mainly blood flow disorders. As a young child I watched my maternal Grandfather and Grandmother suffer through years of cancer. In my teenage years I watch my paternal Grandfather decline with Alzheimer's and my Grandmother fight through several heart attacks. It left a big impression on me. Now my Father is fighting Alzheimer's in a battle he can't ever win. I personally am dealing with Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). In short my hearts built in pace maker is not working right. I have rapid changes of blood pressure resulting in dizziness, severe headaches, numbness, and fainting in extreme cases. POTS is often misdiagnosed as MS because the symptoms are just about the same.

As you can imagine I am focused on any DC project that involves heath issues. Right now I am doing tasks for POEM@Home and GPU Grid. Once I reach my goal of getting into the top ten for the team in Poem I am looking at branching out into other medical projects. Rosetta is probably going to be my next focus. Sooner or later I would like to have done tasks and moved up the ranks to the top twenty for our team for all the projects that involve medical research.

I am currently running Boinc on my i5-3570k GTX 680 gaming system and a i7 2670QM laptop. I also have a older Core Duo system with a GTX 550 in it I keep hoping to revive for crunching. It has CPU cooling issues and I am of the mind its not worth spending money to fix. I keep thinking I am just going to give up and pull the GPU out of it and toss it in my gaming system to do GPU Grid tasks.

With all that being said about my personal goals, I am more than willing to stop what I am doing and jump into other projects when the team needs me for contests or some other kind of goal. Just give me a heads up and I will be there.
