Thank you to all those Veterans who have served and those who continue to serve, and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
 
A personal thanks and remembrance to my Dad who is now at rest at Arlington National Cemetery after serving nearly 25 years as a Naval Aviator, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. Rest in peace Dad.
 

 
 
Interesting history of Veteran's Day..
 
World War I was known as the war to end all wars. Officially, it ended on June 28, 1919 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed. However, the Allied nations and Germany had already agreed to a temporary end to fighting and hostilities seven months earlier on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month to make November 11, 1918 a day of world peace or Armistice Day to honor veterans of World War I. 
 
November 11, 1919 became an official national holiday when President Woodrow Wilson stated, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations…” 
 
Initially, Armistice Day was centered around World War I, but after U.S. involvements in World War II and the Korean War, November 11th was renamed to honor American veterans of all wars as of June 1, 1954. Later that year on October 8th, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued proclamation 3071 to establish the nation’s first official Veterans Day.

Yes, a HUGE salute to all our members here and to the rest of the vets out there for all youve done and all youve sacrificed. People that never think about the military dont realize that being in the military means making sacrifices with your family everyday when deployed too. Your not just giving up your life for the country, its values and the people but the familys take that hit too. I know im a day off for the holiday but hey, its never too late to say thank you to our vets and let them know that we do care.
