carltonc where are the bios updates for the 1060 cards?
BIOS updates on 1060 ACX3 cards will not be necessary, we will have the optional thermal pads for some SKU's so please stay tuned.
Does this mean there won't be BIOS for the 1060 acx3 cards at all or that they are optional?

darkheran And let me remind you that anyone who was the rep-out-to-get-you as you claim wouldn't advise you to refund your purchase when you make it clear you don't want the fixes provided, which we all have done. And you certainly have the right to scream and shout within the confines of the forum rules, but equally everyone else has the right to point out how detrimentally it reflects on your persona. Don't forget that.
Sure, i'm fine with that, as you said everyone have the right to do whatever he like, not complaining about it either, do i? You did the fixes and yet i don't remember saying anything about it...and for sure have nothing to say about it, freedom of choice right.
Exactly. The difference however is that I didn't go about making absurd accusations that anybody and everybody that disagreed with me was a representative out to silence me. You asked what exactly you wanted to ask. The community (and the company preemptively) answered. You've also stated on multiple occasions what you wanted to state (i.e. that you don't want the solutions provided and that you consider them to be fairy dust for all you care). You don't seem to often clarify what it is you want instead however other than to attempt to make others share your opinion every time someone new comes along. I.E. the defintion of fearmongering: [ the action of deliberately arousing public fear or alarm about a particular issue.]. You just continue to point out that you don't feel like you should have to do the work and that it should have been done from the beginning. EVGA has admitted they made a mistake (so they have agreed with you on that). They are one step ahead of you given the fact that they've already said you don't have to do the work either. For one its optional, two if you feel like its not they happily offer you to send it in (they said they'd do it for you) and three you made your big fuss about how you're threatening to return it if you don't get what you want. We agreed you should, since you won't be happy with the outcomes provided as you stated. In the end, your case or whatnot is solved. There is nothing more for you to do then wait for a response or choose to make a return. So you should be good. You can move along without proving to be a detriment to others now. Or you can continue to stay here and flail about at absolutely no benefit to the company, community, or yourself. But have at it. And I seriously do hope you get your fixes and your card lives a long and healthy life without a doubt.

lunaquin I did the update and now the idle temp on one of the 1080s went up 10 degrees. Before they both sat at 36-39c. Now one is at 45-50c idle. Any idea what could be the problem?
Is it 1080 FTW? The idle temp should be unaffected (0dB fan mode) Also is it BIOS 1 or 2?

Well, you can stop refreshing this week. We won't be shipping more pads out until next week. Thanks to your question, I just asked our Customer Support to make sure an email goes out to people when the request has processed and shipped.

Bar81 You do realize there won't be thermal pads, right? All they'll do is flash the BIOS (30 seconds of effort) and send you back a refurb. But if that's what you want, go for it.
"EVGA has updated its manufacturing line for all these cards to add the thermal pads as standard." Can't post links, but it's on pcmag site.
Again, until EVGA actually says this post vbios release I'll remain skeptical (not saying it's not true) and like I said, it wouldn't be the smartest move unless they want to swap thousands of cards.
Would it help if I say it semi-post-VBIOS release? All cards on the Thermal Mod list are being produced with the extra thermal pads and VBIOS flash, with certain exceptions (such as no VBIOS for GTX 1060s, as Jacob noted, or backplate pads for the 1070 Black Editions [no backplate]), and all graphics cards on the list will be updated for both VBIOS and thermal pads before being shipped out again retail or for RMA's. Since there is a small downtime for accomplishing all of this, future cards purchased or replaced will have a pretty clear shipping date of when they were updated.

If you have a card with 2 VBIOS's there will be a switch on the card to set the VBIOS. If there is only one VBIOS entry for your card on the main page you only have 1 Primary VBIOS and can ignore that statement EDIT: What is your cards P/N?

I think the easiest way to explain it is: I have my card just as it was out of the box when I perform BIOS update 1 + 2. No changes done via software or switches on the card. Mine's the 1070FTW

Thanks, it's good to hear a final clear statement on this. However, given that, suggest we stop calling the thermal pads optional (not you but others have been using that terminology). At this point, by adding the thermal pads to all cards going forward, EVGA is acknowledging that these are necessary and should have been installed to begin with.

I would still love to hear from an official EVGA employee confirm this. Sure, PCmag, some Youtubers etc. have reported thermal pads are now pre-installed on new cards. But, this is the internet. Virtually nothing can be taken at face value, unless you know the info is coming from a trusted source. Unfortunately journalistic integrity is not a thing in the webs. So, how about it? I have no issues in installing the thermal pads on my card, should it arrive without them. But still, given the choice, I would 100% take a card with factory installed cooling elements and leave the tinkering to minimum. Edit: As I was typing this, we finally had an official confirmation, thank you LeeM. It would help if there was a way to recognize an updated card from those retailers currently have in stock, but I certainly understand if this is too much to ask.

No BIOS plans right now. The fan curve is appropriate to keep the VRM cool.

Yes, going forward you will need new cards that have BIOS + thermal pads applied.

It could be a marketing decision. I mean after this situation it will be hard to sell these cards without those pads preinstalled even if EVGA has said they are entirely optional. Just witnessing the drama that has taken place since this issue has sprout up is enough to assume even if official statements say you don't NEED them, people will still not believe the statements.

Great, that in bios 2 (secondary) the fan is minimum set to 500rpm. I hope the secondary bios for the 1080 classified will also have 500 rpm.

I am doing the BIOS update, but I'm not gonna mess with the thermal pads. I'm just not going to tamper with a card that I've paid so much money for especially when it was Evga's job to do proper testing and install the pads in the first place. Plus Evga themselves are saying that the pads are not necessary, and the BIOS update will do the job. I'm not going to RMA the card either, because I don't want to get a refurbished card. I paid for a new card. Maybe everything will be fine, and if that's the case then great. If the card dies, then I will RMA it. If the card dies and harms any other components of my PC, then I will file a lawsuit against Evga. My only problem is the harm these issues are going to do to the resale values of these cards. I wish I could refund the card, but it is too late for me at this point. That I cannot help, but at least this experience is a good lesson. This was my first Evga GPU, and I've been a MSI customer for a long time. I personally have never had any problems with MSI, and none of their cards ever overheated or died on me. I only went with Evga this time around, because their cards are smaller than the MSI cards and thus easier to fit in my Mini-ITX case. The valuable lesson for me at the end of all of this is to NEVER buy another Evga product again. I should not have to physically tamper with a card that I've paid so much money for, and I don't think this is good customer service unlike a lot of people claim. I simply should not have to deal with a clear oversight and abysmal corner cutting in the first place, and frankly I want my money back. I should not have to RMA my new card for a refurbished card, and I shouldn't have to pay for shipping. I shouldn't have to be left without a card for days, because I use this card for my work as well. Good customer service at this point would be letting people refund their cards if they choose to do so, because I strongly believe all these shenanigans are going to hurt the resale value of these cards. And honestly It really surprises me that these issues exist in the first place. Not installing thermal pads and not properly testing you cards is really unforgivable. It is really a simple issue with a simple fix, and it isn't a complex issue that might have been hard to catch. I have bought many cards from MSI and other brands for many years, and I have never had to deal with these kind of issues. Maybe it's just my personal experience, but that is what counts the most for me. One thing that I can say is that the moderators on these forums are very helpful, and I thank them for that.

I have a noobie question. Should I turn the bios switch from 1 to 2 before flashing the bios 2? and vice versa?

Campacci2k Secundary BIOS never had 0 spin. ;) I will update here. Any chances to this "overclock on fans" damage then?
Correct! On the classified the min rpm is 1000 rpm at the Moment. That is too much, therefore i hope this changes to 500 rpm

Yes. See this in main post: (For Dual BIOS cards, card must be set to BIOS that is being flashed)

DeathAngel74 default is position 1, master. flash 1 first, reboot, shutdown, flip switch, reboot. flash number 2, reboot.
This should be appended to the directions of the original post for dual bios users to be honest if not rebooting prior to the second flash would cause an issue.

Yes, flash 1st update on 1st bios and flash the 2nd update on the 2nd bios switch.

I.E. the defintion of fearmongering: [the action of deliberately arousing public fear or alarm about a particular issue.].
I did clarified what i wanted multiple times in the thread and in my ticket, never got an answer by an EVGA Official in the Thread nor in PM's (or i missed it somehow,so be kind to show it to me), in the ticket i got an Bot answer - Giving me the howto RMA... i know where the FAQs are, or was it a woman?! of course nothing on the points i insisted on, to which i replied, insisting again on my basics demands, till today nothing (4 days). Now that was the first part. For the fear-mongering part, to which i answered already, i'm sharing facts, it's a forum after all. You said, EVGA have admitted their mistakes?, no they did not and will not. I also stated this in one of my post. Again about the "optional" as i said in one of my post (again), if it really is, one is entitled to not make any of it (Which is my position right now) - and the card will surely die prematurely. (back to the part where EVGA did not admitted the mandatory situation). Next we have the RMA part, which is pretty much summed up in the first part. Also my big fuss as you said, is not a threat, just a another fact, i'll ask a refund, depending on the way the ticket is handled. If it has to come to the refund, of course, THEN, i'll have nothing to do here anymore and move along. Until then i should add that if you can't coop with my positions, you still have the option to close your eyes on them, as you gracefully do on EVGA mistakes. Yes, i wish the same thing, a real solution and quick.
