Ok so on my gtx 480's I have 0 control over fan speed on either one. I just did a fresh install of windows 7 64bit. Ive tried installing both the newest and the beta drivers from nvidia. I tried to control the fan speed with msi afterburn, evga precision, and nvidia system tools. All the software says that the fans arnt spinning at all but I can put my hand in and feel it spinning? So what exactly is going on here I dont understand what is wrong with this. My current relevent hardware is 1 evga 760 motherboard 2 Core I7 something processor 3 2 gtx 480 gpus 4 1500watt thermaltake psu

Do you currently have both Afterburner and Precision installed? If so....You should try unistalling both, then re- install just one. I prefer Afterburner ,over the new PrecisionX, because it was creating some issues with my cards. If not. I`d still try re-installing the monitoring software, and see if that helps. Go back in and see if you can set-up a fan profile. Do the cards appear to be functioning properly aside from this issue?

MSI GTX-480+MSI Afterburn=OK MSI GTX-480+EVGA Precision=Not OK Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Precision X isn't compatible with ANY other brand than EVGA. So that's probably why you're not seeing any fan speed reports via Precision X. As far as the MSI Afterburn? Hm...I can't touch on that. I'm a die hard fan of EVGA Products. But let's try and get it fixed anyways shall we? Have you tried just one program at a time? Or are you trying to use them all to see results

My understanding is that both are designed by the same person, and should work on any reference GTX 480. However; For some reason PrecisionX really conflicts with my clocks, even though I am running 2 EVGA GTX480 SC cards. This is just my own personal issues, and wouldn`t reflect the same results for all users. Does sound like there may be a conflict with trying to run multiple monitoring programs.

OK sorry I should have been clear. I had precision installed first. After that didn't work I installed nvidia tools. Which didn't work either. I am able to change clock speed and stuff just not the fan speed. And it won't show me gpu temp. Sorry I hope I made that clear

Just for clarification: Afterburner WILL work with EVGA, because I have been using it with 2x EVGA GTX480SC cards for several months with very few issues. I am definitely no expert on anything. But! I do know it works

Hm. Not that this will help but the 500 series cards has a Firmware updater that will unlock the fan speeds in some cards. Anyways...No, I do think it's windows that's preventing it. Let me investigate further and I'll get back to ya.

Did you click on the Auto button(Next to Fan Speed%) and hit apply. This should disable Auto Fan and allow you to go into the fan setting and set-up a User Defined Fan Profile. (User Define button located directly to the right of the Auto button) You should also be able to adjust the fan speed by simply moving the slider from side to side. This should show a corresponding increase or decrease in fan speed %. It shouldn`t matter that the setting is greyed out. On mine. I can still manipulate the setting even though it is greyed out. This might help as well http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/images/Afterburner%20User%20Manual.pdf

I don't know about MSI. With all due respect; I'm more concerned with your EVGA product. How long ago did you get those cards. Were they purchased at the same time? or were they purchased at different times. Check the Bios of both cards. They should match.

Ok, so now that you have one of your cards out; Check the bios version and write it down. Do the same with the other one. Hopefully they will match. If not, you may need to flash them both or one to the same bios version. I am thinking that maybe that's the reason why you can't change or manipulate the fan speed(s). The fan's are "locked". Anybody else have an input on this?
