Okay, I know everyone has been down on the 3090, but after gaming yesterday for over 12 hours (Mostly in RDR2 and Watchdogs Legion) I'm ecstatic with the results.
I'm gaming on a Samsung CRG9 Ultrawide at 5120x1440, 10 bit color, 100hz HDR.
The monitor has always been beautiful, and HDR is actually worth using on this display, but I was stuck with sub 40fps framerates on most new titles and even the 2080ti I borrowed from a friend was only giving me a small bump.

Yesterday, the 3090 FTW3 played all the games I wanted to play at 60+ average frames on this giant thing at ultra settings.
It's finally worth playing beautiful games on.
It's possible I could have gone with the 3080, but Ram use can go above 10 gig in this use case, so take that in mind for your future ultrawide buy.
No stutters, no tearing, no crazy fan noise, no coil whine. Power delivery on this card is excellent, and it didn't crash once. (Although I do need a bigger UPS. The thing is pretty upset about the extra power draw...)
Compared to a hybrid rtx 2080 that I've always run heavily OC'd just to get things to be playable, I haven't even wanted to touch the power slider on this card yet.
Thanks EVGA! Thanks Nvidia. I appreciate you, even though it was expensive. It's exactly what I needed.

    That's the monitor I'm using with a 1060. Can't wait to try it with a 3080.

    2080 Ti at the same power draw is 14% slower than 1440p and 27% slower at 4K

    5120x1440 = 7,372,800 pixels
    3840x2160 = 8,294,000 pixels
    3440x1440 = 4,953,600 pixels

    Considering 5120x1440 is closer to 4K we can assume that the gains over 2080 Ti are closer to 27% but not actually. It's actually 12.5% shy of 4K pixel count, but close enough to presume that the 3090 is probably 23-25% faster than 2080 Ti at 5120x1440.

    You can get 2080 Ti used for $700. Hell you can get the 3080 for $700 and it's only 2% slower than the 3090 in RDR2 at 4K!

    Youre not justifying this purchase really. It's just a big waste of money, and when you people buy this over priced mediocrity (imagine the 3090 on a 628mm2 7nm TSMC die, it would be 40% faster than 8nm EUV) you signal to NGreedia that youre ok with the price gouging, that "hey, go ahead, make anything, as long as it's 10% faster than whatever else, money is no object, I will pay $5000 for that and thank-you for robbing me afterwards".

    It's sad really, rich morons have led to the situation we are in with a $1500 80 Ti card on an inferior node (7nm TSMC queue was forecasted to free up as crApple was switching to 5nm, 7nm TSMC is currently only at 30% capacity).

    So golf clap, sure glad youre happy with your pointless purchase, and THANKS for voting with your wallet in favor of NGreedia's continued price-gouging.

    It's really swell actually, because it means that less and less of us can afford nice things when rich morons buy overpriced garbage

    All I really heard was "Look at me! I'm mad at stuff! It doesn't matter that the reason the 3080 price is so low is because it's a failed full stack chip that people need to buy for Nvidia to even make.
    I only take pixel count and not objects rendered into my simplified equations to justify how lame this person online is! People are dumb, hardware is dumb, I want a card I don't have yet but will probably buy from
    an ebay reseller because I'm mad at other people that have it!"

    Dude, chill out. There's a use case for everything.

    Looking to do the same with FTW3 Ultra 3090 and get an LG CX 55" to go with it for my new gift to myself for getting through this stressful year.
