Sadly my 2080 ti black broke. I'm not sure what happened to it. It powered on ran but I could not get any video out of it. So the long story of this is the evga response to this issue on a card I have had for a few years was great. I sent in all the things I had done to try to trouble shoot it and they where quick to get me out a solution.

So what happened was I bought a 3090 fe card to replace my 2080 ti. The 3090 just ran awful hot. I couldn't keep the vram temps down and I was just very underwhelmed by the performance of it vs the price I paid for it. So I decided to I wanted to sell my 3090 and put my 2080 ti back in and wait for next year to upgrade. This is when the issues started.

So I opened a RMA sent the card back no issues yet. EVGA decided to instead of fixing my 2080 ti or sending me a replacement 2080 ti they sent me a 3070. A card that is 300 dollars cheaper than my 2080 ti and had way less ram. I don't care much at all about ray tracing which 3070 can't do great at anyway for a G9 Odyssey monitor. So I'm pretty upset about being given a 3070 for a 2080 ti.

So this is just a warning that if your 2080 ti breaks you might want to think twice before sending it back or trying to fix it yourself depending on how happy you would be with a 3070 as a replacement for it.

Cheers

Damn man that's kind of sick with price comparison however nowadays things are pretty tight and a 3070 would go for around the price of a 2080ti due to stock.

the real thing I would be upset about is that there isn't a bios for the 370 to really open it up yet so it's performance suffers compared to a 2080Ti. My 2080Ti is still going strong right now.  It's been under water it's entire life though so I think the hotest it has seen is maybe 55C.

It seems to me that they owe you a 3070 Ti or 3080.  The 2080 Ti often beats the 3070 in many ways.  The 3080 may be too good to replace a 2080 Ti, but a 3070 is too bad.  EVGA needs to error on the side of "too good" to satisfy its warranty policy.  You should contact EVGA about it.

Looking at benchmarks the cards are similar by fps.  You don't have a higher end 2080 ti. So... its a close fair trade.

If they don't have the exact model card that you RMA, the same or better performance replacement is their guarantee - if you need the 11GB of VRAM, I'm sure that you can email them and get a refurbed 2080 Ti of some kind (you won't be getting a 3090, the only card with more than 11GB of VRAM with better performance).

Other than the VRAM, a 3070 and a 2080 Ti have very comparable performance. And VRAM isn't important unless you game at 4K - and even then, there's only 1 or 2 non-modded games that actually, truly require over 10GB (in use isn't actual use, as many games pool extra assets to speed up loading times).

This is very informative thread. I had no idea you could get a different model card as warranty replacement. Thanks for posting!

Besides having 3 less GB of vram the 3070 will out perform the 2080TI in several games from what i see.  They perform so close i fell like if you dont need the 3 more gbs of vram then your really not missing out on much.  It does suck that they just sent you a card with out asking.. but atleast you got a card back.  My brother sent a 3070 in because it would just crash under load (NOT EVGA but not going to post the company because i dont know how it works on talking about companies ) but instead of sending a card back he got a check back for retail price of the card he had.

I think they sent a 3070 because that is what they have in stock for RMA.
